Today show to Limbaugh: Would you have a beer with Obama?

posted at 5:19 pm on October 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

Think of it. Rush, The One, Van Jones, and Glenn Beck out in the Rose Garden with a case of MGD. Wire them up with lapel microphones and put it on pay-per-view for $100 a pop. Voila: ObamaCare is paid for. Frankly, I’m surprised Limbaugh hasn’t proposed it yet.

I’m also surprised NBC didn’t ask him about his alleged fondness for slavery, an old slur that’s been revived of late by the left to block his NFL bid. Limbaugh says he never said it (“If I had said what they say I said, I would be gone”) and no one seems able to track down the quotation, but the mere fact that liberals claim that he said it is good enough for MSNBC to smear the hell out of him on air. Seriously, he should sue. He wouldn’t win because it’s almost impossible to defame a public figure, but the media attention on how far MSNBC’s willing to go to libel its political enemies would be worth it.

Exit question: He declines to say here that he “loves” Sarahcuda, but why? He was willing to say it 10 months ago.

I mean, if you were Rush Limbaugh, would you trust anything this White House would give you to drink?

Allah, since this quote was used to deny Rush Limbaugh ownership of the football team – it is certainly tortuous interference. Limbaugh can sue or at least demand discovery to see if there are competing interests who have ginned up these libels for their own commercial gain.

On his show today, he said his lawyers were already in contact with everyone who is airing these quotes and they’ll have to source them. If they cannot source these quotes, the lawyers want an apology and a retraction to Rush. So, he’s taking care of it and it will be fun to watch all of these “journalists” have to publicly apologize to Rush.

Meh, I’m just glad Rush is losing weight. We need him around and speaking out for a good long time.

Still don’t understand why he wants in on the Rams and the NFL. The only explanation I can come up with is that it’s the realization of a lifelong dream (or the closest he could possibly come to it). No kids, gobs of money, might as well blow it on a crappy NFL franchise.

re. Palin–I’m a 24/7 member, and listen to Rush everyday. He has said countless times , in some form or the other, “the media will tell us who our candidate is by who they try to destroy. And look what they’re doing to Sarah Palin. They aren’t too scared of Romney or Huckabee…”
And for now, that’s as close to an endorsement Rush will get.

I don’t think this necessarily ends her potential as a president, but it has made me less likely to vote for her, not more. If I’m in the minority, then good for her.

JammieWearingFool on October 13, 2009 at 5:59 PM

While you are certainly correct that a public figure has an onerous burden in establishing actual malice (per the SC: subjective knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth), it is certainly not the case that such a claim is “almost impossible.” Depending on the facts, it may be easy. This whole process, including the sourcing of the claims, seem to suggest that this might be one of the ways to sustain a claim.

Interestingly, one of the circumstantial ways that malice can be shown against media members is to show that the underlying veracity of the claim was not investigated which was contrary to the usual practice of the media member. This places MSNBC in a difficult position. Either (1) they would have to argue they did investigate the veracity of the claim per their usual practice but still ran the story despite finding actual knowledge it was never said; or (2) they would have to admit that their usual practice is not to fact check claims made before broadcasting them.

I hope Rush does this. Giving the shocking nature of the attributed quote and the likely reckless disregard for basic fact checking, I think Rush could put MSNBC in a rough spot.

Hey tex lit….

I’m noodling this.. Rush would be making purchase of team as part of business group, not as a broadcaster. Group has already spent money to put offer together, investigate purchase etc. etc. If the group should lose the opportunity to purchase the team because of the slander against one of the group members (Rush), Would they have a cause of action against the person/s making defamatory statements? It is my understanding that the hardest thing to prove in libel cases is actual damages.. since there has been money spent, and potentially money lost, would that give Rush’s slander action legs??

Even if he were to lose, imagine the depositiions and publicity it would engender.

Just curious. (spent many years in insurance claims, including libel/slander cases)

I’d need to bring a clothespin and some bottles of sarsaparilla. I can’t even stand the smell of beer or whiskey, never mind drink that nasty stuff.

Hillary Clinton = Nurse Ratchett… that kills me

painfulTruthDisciple on October 13, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Think of it. Rush, The One, Van Jones, and Glenn Beck out in the Rose Garden with a case of…

a fitting beer made by America’s oldest brewery.

MGD

You mean someone actually drinks that horse pee?

paulsur on October 13, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Rush is not only smart, funny, & gracious, he exudes charm.
Really enjoyed these interviews and feel that Jamie did a much better job interviewing Rush than Barbara WaWa.

Beck’s a recovering alcoholic

BadgerHawk on October 13, 2009 at 6:26 PM

I_C on October 13, 2009 at 9:48 PM

MGD? NOT worth the calories. I’ll take a Shiner or maybe a Newcastle, thx.

I’m certainly not in charge of picking them. [Repub pres candidates]

Hah! Me neither. Who is? They should be fired.

If he invited me up there to chat, I would owe him the dignity and honor of being honest.

I like that idea.

Now they are doing word association?!?! OMG lame!

Hillary Clinton = nurse Ratchet.

Snorgle.

Today show to Limbaugh: Would you have a beer with Obama?

Rush, is a US Citizen, and as such is senior to all elected officials including BHO! You don’t “go for a drink” with the hired help. Unless you, the politician’s BOSS, invites them. Which, btw, Rush has done on many occasions — in fact there’s a standing invite for the Chicago BS purveyor to join him for a chat in his Florida studio — I’m sure refreshments are included.

So, the ball’s in Obama’s court. Let’s face it though, he’s way too much of a wussy to go tete-a-tete with MaHaRushie, or Fox News for that matter! As for the “Govt. Owned Media” their kow-towing attendence at Obama’s soiree’s & Luau’s is prima facie evidence of their abdication of responsibility to the American people. Let alone the tingle some of them get when the ONE pees on their shoes.

“On Watch”

The left finds it very easy to misquote Rush, someone here misquoted what he said about Palin. His remarks showed a deep seated respect for her. How, out of his statements, does anyone get that he didn’t say that he LOVED her, means anything. He also said that if he was to do that “he would put a target on her back.” One only has to listen to his program to find that he really thinks Palin is a better prospect than anything the Washington Elites have in mind. He has always said that the Republican blue bloods had their idea of a winning candidate in McCain, and look what happened, and we can’t go down that road again.

Exit question: He declines to say here that he “loves” Sarahcuda, but why? He was willing to say it 10 months ago.

Allah, you are trying to make this seem like a big deal. It’s not.

Who cares? This is irrelevent! He paid her a great compliment by saying he respected and admired her, and that she had more backbone then any man in the Democrat party. As a woman in todays political climate, being respected by people like Rush is more important then being loved.

Susanboo on October 14, 2009 at 1:08 AM

Rush always pushes the elite candidate.

Jindal is his man. Another eastern Ivy League big government type.

True_King on October 13, 2009 at 6:31 PM

Huh?

Then why has he all but said, in interviews and on his show, that Sarah Palin is he only one that really matters.

Anytime someone goes after Sarah, Rush spends quite a bit of time reminding everyone that “the media tells you who to pick, by telling you who they fear!”

Rush was on Bush’s side on many things, but also took after him when his did something that went against the grain, like shamnesty, or Harriet Meyers.

Actually, he may very well win a defamation lawsuit. He might not win any monetary damages, under the view that any publicity is good publicity, but he may win the suit and get public retractions and apologies (on page F55).

You can’t just make crap up about someone and pass it off as a direct quote.

A large part of the damage done to conservative causes stems from GWB failing to even talk back to the media on their smears of him. He pretty much gave them carte blanche, and they’re still running with it.
