MSNBC guest: For Limbaugh, owning an NFL team would be like owning a plantation

posted at 8:51 pm on October 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

Another iteration of the talking point du jour. Narratives, like flowers, don’t spring up overnight; they have to be carefully nurtured until they bloom. Consider this another little sprinkle from the water can. And please do note that the James Earl Ray nonsense she attributes to Limbaugh — which also happens to be a favorite of my moral superiors in the blogosphere — now makes two specious unsourced quotes he’s been tagged with on MSNBC in hopes of blocking his NFL bid. I say again: He should sue. They’re simply not going to fact-check this stuff unless and until he threatens them into doing so.

Exit question: Which rabid Republican said this of Rush’s bid for the Rams? “There’re now gonna be character tests for sports owners? There’ll only be three of them left. Unless they beat the Vikings Sunday as of next Thursday it will have been a full year since the Rams won a game. My God, if Limbaugh wants to buy them far be it for me to tell him he’s flushing his money down a rat hole.” Hmmmm. Click the image to watch.

Wow, what a racist bitch. Thinking white male owners of professional sports see their franchises as plantations. Screw her and her union, I hope the players she represents all get pay cuts and injuries.

Then maybe the Rams will grow cotton in the off-season to make some money.

varnson on October 13, 2009 at 9:49 PM

“I can just see the visions of plantation grandeur dancing in his head as we speak,” Hunter said. “Yeah, it doesn’t make you a racist to want to own a team. But, it does kind of with all his history question his power position over these players who make millions of dollars and his ability to be able to move them around, deny them contracts and do whatever he wants willy-nilly. It’s the ultimate power position to be an owner of an NFL team.”

Her comments aren’t just about Rush. That’s how these Reds see all white business owners.

flyfisher on October 13, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Let’s look on the bright side…in the post America America, some states will unite together governed by the original US Constitution. Their football teams will be free market, survival of the fittest. Every year we will meet the champion football team from the other states (although I don’t know how they will be determined, since they don’t keep score) and kick their “collective” butts. They’ll be okay ’cause they are all happy government football workers with none of the pressures of having too much money they have to shower it around the clubs. Feel free to expand on this very preliminary idea……

califdreamnred on October 13, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Owning an NFL team would be like owning a plantation? Really? How so?
Serious question. Are they postulating that all NFL owners are plantation owners? Or just Rush? And are they really saying that some of the fossilized owners have never uttered a racially charged comment? Rush never did but I’ll bet at least one of the fossils has. Are they really and truly prepared to be sued by Limbaigh or to suffer a loss of revenue through boycotts? i’m ready baby.

I would like to see Rush sue the pants off these people. Would like to see him get the Rams, too and go hmmm hmmm hmmm to Chris Burman the dud from ESPN.

The National FELONS League has a problem with Limbaugh’s character?!?!?!?! That’s rich!!!!

40 years ago, when I watched the Los Angeles Rams religiously, the NFL had heroes and players of high moral standards. Today, not so much. Haven’t been a fan for at least 20 years. F–k the NFL.

Projection. It’s all projection.

HAnthonyWayne on October 13, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Talk about plantations…

What we are sadly watching is the reversal of the gains made by Black people in this nation up through the ’50s. Since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society putsch, there has been created a permanent underclass, concentrated almost entirely in the Democrat-riddled, majority Black Eastern cities. Ugly, but reality has a well-known Conservative bias, after all.

“African-American” victim-journalists like this chick have been nurtured in the same hot-house of low expectations and assumed entitlement that produced the first (partially) Black US President, and can see no further than what they were taught in grade school – “Ain’t my fault.”

Their great-grandparents must be spinning in their graves…

What I’ve seen in my lifetime leaves me weeping for my Black brothers and sisters, and for my country. I’ve known, loved, worked with, worked for Black folks since I was a kid, and I’m well aware of the justifiable pride taken in a legacy which saw Africans develop from primitive people, in many cases, into modern day American citizens in a mere handful of generations. The destruction wrought by the Left in 40 years on a proud race is perhaps the most despicable act of a despicable philosophy.

Sad. Tragic.

Sanjoboy on October 13, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Stuck on stupid.

If the player’s union and other assorted morons and racists win on this issue, the NFL can forget ever seeing a dime from me again. I hope that catches on across the country.

The league and the other owners need to take a stand on this, as they are now number 1 for sports. They can easily lose that, especially with some of their bonehead moves, like putting games on cable only, the DirectTV deal that instantly excludes 80% of potential viewers and forcing me to watch crappy out of market games.

reaganaut on October 13, 2009 at 10:35 PM

America with leftists in charge = Witch Hunt Nation.

This current anti-Limbaugh hyena-shriek / self-righteous-leftist-circle-jerk is a prime example.

The only problem with Limbaugh co-owning a team (not even being a majority owner either I might add) is the marked increase fantasy-based anxiety and self-aggrandizing faux rage in leftists’ minds.

Last I checked, multi-millionaires still get to invest their money in legal (and legally audited) ways in this country.

RobCon on October 13, 2009 at 10:38 PM

Blacks who attack Limbaugh, or Republicans in general, are doing so only out of obedience for their Democrat masters. Blacks have been the sole property of Democrats since the start of the country and they have maintained the plantation mentality which have kept them in bondage physically in the past and mentally in the present.

It is not a surprise that the first black president did not have a family history of slavery. Initiative is required to just run for the position and though blacks are welcomed to work in the Democrat plantation, they have been discouraged to run it. Democrats have forbidden blacks to think for themselves and anyone who do (Rice, Thomas, Steele, etc.) are immediately attacked.

Blacks fear Republicans because they fear the freedom they represent and the responsibilities that comes with it.

AaronGuzman on October 13, 2009 at 10:38 PM

How come when Rush makes a comment about football being like watching the Bloods and Crips fight without weapons — which without question was a tasteless remark I’ll admit — it’s racist but when a lefty likens team owners to plantation owners — not a peep? I’m willing to call it out when Rush crosses the line. I’m willing to concede when Beck is acting a little too crazy. How come these people parade their folks around without even batting an eyelash at some of the positively outrageous things they say?

The Left is utterly lacking in any kind of self-awareness whatsoever.

It’s terribly amusing to hear some — like that joker who owns the Colts and is so scandalized at the thought of Rush being in his club (how much should we bet he contributed to the hopenchange campaign?) — talking about how the league needs to avoid controversy and bad publicity. Is this the same NFL that was OK with letting a convicted felon back into the league? The same NFL that then thought it would be a good idea to print up dog shirts with Vick’s number on them?

Kabuki theater at its finest.

NoLeftTurn on October 13, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Only this time the slaves are multi-millionires.

Ya, the real slaves are the fans. Look at what people shell out for seats (for a good team). The overpriced food and beverages, the insanely overprices NFL gear. Look at the guys who spend $250 on a replica jersey, then the player is traded or the team changes uniforms.

I’m waiting for the day when each team goes into the season with 16 different uniforms, that way “fans” can buy 16 different replica shirts.

Claypigeon on October 13, 2009 at 11:07 PM

It’s a shame that so many blacks grow up knowing little truth about their own African heritage, that their ancestors were sold as slaves by black African slave traders, that this trade had flourished in Africa for centuries before the white man got involved, that the African trade in humans catered for the full spectrum from indentured servitude to child sacrifice, that it was whites who eventually said “no more slavery” and made unprecedented efforts to stop it throughout the world.

Slavery is indefensible in any form but when you compare the fate of slaves in the Muslim world to slaves in America, it’s clear that African Americans fared a lot better. They weren’t, for example, castrated before their passage here, and were allowed to raise families. I say this not to excuse American slavery but because I am sick and goddamn tired of this constant demonization of whites, white history and white culture. How about they whale on Arabs for their part in slavery for a change? Or Africans?

The woman in that clip might as well be Michelle Obama. I’ve had enough of the whole rotten, stinking whitey-is-the-devil axis. The left really needs to clean house, far more than the right. I mean racist witches like that are actually allowed to spew their hatred on national TV, as if such views were respectable…how messed up is that?

I think what made slavery wrong was that the workers were not paid. In the case of the NFL, the workers are paid. So really, it sounds like she doesn’t want black men working for a white man.

So much for a post-racial America. That kind of talk was never heard of 30 years ago. America has become more polarized as it has become more liberal, not less polarized with time.

Gang-of-One on October 14, 2009 at 1:51 AM

The real lesson is what this tells us about higher education.

Here we have a Journalism Professor — Pulitzer Prize-Winner — who models the proper approach to source-checking in the information age:

“The words you even put up – two of the statements that he said about the NFL looking like the crypts and the blood,” Hunter said. “He even said that Dr. Martin Luther King, his killer, James Earl Ray should have a medal given to him, a medal of honor. He says, ‘We miss you, James.’ You can go online as to the top 10 Rush Limbaugh racist comments.”

I’m glad my daughters are not her students; although it’s unlikely that their professors will be any better.

notropis on October 14, 2009 at 2:54 AM

The bottom line is that all these accusations of racism against Rush have all the ear marks of being a Henry II / Thomas a Becket moment: “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest!”

It seems very petty and vindictive of Obama to be using all these surrogates for his personal vengeance against Rush.

And if Obama isn’t behind this (or at least cheering on the various actors), then he should come out and put in end to it.

Obama should have another Kanye West moment and come out and say all these people calling Rush a racist are “jackasses”. Or maybe a Skip Gates moment and say that although he doesn’t know what is going through Rush’s mind, he is certain that all these people accusing Rush of racism are acting stupidly.

Ordinary American on October 14, 2009 at 3:04 AM

The word games and spin concerning Rush could not be more idiotic.

From some of the leading NFL sites,we get this pathetic line of ” Rush did not SPECIFICALLY deny he made the comments” drivel.

What part of “these comments are made up, there are no sources, dates, or audio to back up these bogus quotes” leads these journalist to conclude that Rush is not denying he made these racist comments.

The public seems to be a lot smarter than the journalist because going through the comments, they do a pretty good job of calling out inept reporting when they see it:

# Ben Roetlisbunger says: October 12, 2009 7:36 PM

Whenever a public figure is libeled or slandered, they have to prove not only that the words were false, but that they were said with actual malice, NY Times v. Sullivan. Florio, you should know that. Even if Limbaugh didn’t say those words, he would still have to prove the reporter was malicious when he reported the quote, and not simply misunderstanding something. That is a tough thing to prove.

People shouldn’t demand that celebrities sue for libel or slander every time something false is said about them. It’s too hard to actually win that case. Instead, the onus should be on the reporter. Why is he reporting those words without producing the media in which they were originally recorded? There should be a radio clip if it was said on air.

# JRC007 says: October 12, 2009 7:58 PM

newsone.com lists a series of obviously phony Limbaugh quotes. Do you really believe Limbaugh said James Earl Ray deserves a Medal of Honor? Geez, do you think that might have made news had he actually said it? That’s quite a standard you’ve laid out there, you must have been quite the attorney: if he doesn’t specifically deny every piece of nonsense on the internet – even when he made a blanket denial -he must have said it. It’s really irresponsible for this site to repeat this phony quote. How about putting the burden where it belongs; if you’re going to attribute this quote to him, prove it. Give a time, place, date, anything. It would be easy enough to do, but its much easier – and lazier – repeating internet myths.

Rush needs to fight this and tear the MSM a new one for this blatant smear campaign.

Liam on October 14, 2009 at 7:20 AM

What the hell would selfish, pampered, overpaid athletes know about slavery? They’ve been patted on the head and told how wonderful they are since 5th grade pee wee football.

Jeff from WI on October 14, 2009 at 7:46 AM

That’s ignorant. But not surprising I guess.

All rascists are not leftist idiots, but all leftist idiots are rascist.

For Limbaugh, owning an NFL team would be like owning a plantation

…where the average salary is 1.1 million US dollars.

What a bonehead.

Saltysam on October 14, 2009 at 8:32 AM

Rush should sue. And similarly, until there are penalties for people spouting this kind of crap, it will never stop. Intellectual honesty is simply a tool that these asshats don’t possess.

ultracon on October 14, 2009 at 8:12 AM

using ‘leftist’ and ‘idiot’ together is redundant.

Midas on October 14, 2009 at 8:37 AM

He should sue. They’re simply not going to fact-check this stuff unless and until he threatens them into doing so.

I couldn’t agree more! They persist with their race-bullying because it works for them, and it works for them because we let it. Rush has got enough bucks to track ‘em down and tie ‘em up in court long enough so they might think twice before trying this crap again, and I hope he sues them for every nickel they’ve got.

It’s sickening how democrats need villains to make themselves look good, and if they don’t have them easily available will create them with lies and falsehoods. Lady, how convient you seem to gloss over the fact that democrats owned the plantations in the Old South. But why let facts get in the way of the democrat agenda?

mozalf on October 14, 2009 at 9:05 AM

According to Rush this “reporter” got her info from Winki quotes and she repeats it. Are all these MSM reporters idiots or what?

RobCon on October 13, 2009 at 10:54 PM

This whole thing confused the second I heard the quote on ESPN days ago. I IMMEDIATELY started searching for the quotes. The only “source” I found was Wikiquotes and it listed them as “Disputed.” I thought “surely this must be common knowledge if it’s true.”

Having not found the original source, I wrote to ESPN and asked them to source or apologize.

I can’t believe these media people could have been so sloppy… well, I can believe it because they have an agenda.

mankai on October 14, 2009 at 9:16 AM

Rush should buy the team, name it THE ST. LOUIS RUSH (see cool new logo at ace) & hire an all white roster – no plantation there. Oh, wait, the race mongers will find fault in that, too.

If Rush hires black players he is a plantation owner = racist
If Rush hires white players he is insulting black intelligence = racist

Allah:

The Rams already lost to the Vikings on 10/11. This Sunday, they will get beaten by the Jaguars. Their next opportunity to not get beat will be 11/8… their Bye week.

Mo Rocca’s 180 Degrees Blog with a comment about Nelson Mandela and Dafur? Weak. Very weak.

kingsjester on October 14, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Jeez, just have Rush buy the Lions instead. I don’t think he’d tolerate the ineptitude that William Clay Ford has all these years. And who knows, if Matthew Stafford gets healthy and the Lions get a defender or two, they just might win something besides next year’s first-round draft pick.
