The MSM didn’t call McCain a maverick during the 2008 campaign because he was running against a Democrat.

But, anytime he opposed his party’s President during the previous 8 years, the meadia dubbed him a “maverick”.

If the MSM continues its spiral toward complete irrelavance and financial ruin, journalism will be moved to the History Department of our fine institutions of higher learning.

I can’t wait to hear “Daddy, what was Newsweek?”

Based on the way Newsweek is going, I don’t think I will have to wait very long to hear it.

Palin, like her or not, has never taken a stand that runs contrary to her base and, aside from irking her handlers on the McCain campaign, never actually gone rogue at all.

Sarah “quit” her job as the very powerful chairman of the AOGCC to take down pretty much the entire Republican party leadership in Alaska over corruption. Some still sit in prison!

And of course, she beat the sitting Governor in a LANDSLIDE!

The Republican Party up there hates her so much that they wouldn’t even put her photo on the party’s website!! And she’s the GOVERNOR! (or was)

I’ve never lived in Alaska, but have made a lot of friends from there. Alaska is even more independent than Texas. I think it’s pretty safe to say that most could be described as “libertarian.”

As far as “going against the Republican party” where does one start?

She successfully sued the Bush administration when they attempted to put the polar bear on the “endangered species list.”

She is absolutely against cap and tax, which seems to be a “mainstream” GOP favorite these days, as is “immigration reform” which she is also against.

And we certainly know her stance on “health care reform.” My guess is she would play this deal totally different that the GOP is. A hell of a lot more aggressively.

Just why do you think the “establishment” GOP hate her so much? I’ll give you a hint, it ain’t because she is stupid! They know she would shake things up in a huge way, and dismantle the corrupt little club they have set up in D.C. and around the country.

Snowe is no maverick. She’s a GOP Senator liberal who increases her stature by ratting out her own team.

In short, she’s what’s wrong with the GOP. If we’re not the conservative party, we’re just Democrat lite.

Was there any reason not to tell Obama, Reid, and Baucus in advance how she was voting aside from wanting to bait the media by building a feeling of suspense?

Yes, to extract as much support as possible…and to make sure the dems throw up the weakest opponent against her.

And anyway it’s just politics as usual. Prof. Reynolds says we have the worst political class in history. He’s wrong. They’re politicians, doing what politicians do. What’s new is the power they have.
