Video: The obligatory “Today interviews Rush Limbaugh” clip
posted at 4:10 pm on October 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
A surprisingly warm chat from an otherwise pedestrian profile. Hopefully tomorrow’s segment, where he sounds off on Beck and Palin among others, will have more fireworks. It’s 12 minutes long but worth watching for his answer to what he likes about Obama and his admission, at 6:00 and 10:15, about how he jerks the media around with satire and deliberate provocation. No one who’s listened to the show for 10 minutes will find that revelatory, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard him acknowledge the degree of manipulation as candidly as he does here. (Money quote: “Would you ask anybody who writes for Saturday Night Live these questions?”) Listening to this, his approach sounds like the opposite of Jon Stewart’s. Whereas JS dons the clown nose, attacks the right, and then retreats into his “lighten up, I’m a comedian” shtick when they hit back, Limbaugh holds his clown nose behind his back where only his fans can see it and comes at the left as a serious commentator, going over the top to piss them off and then having a laugh when the inevitable liberal freakout comes. Like Althouse says, “I love the way Rush revels in that sort of thing.”
Speaking of liberal freakouts, this NFL thing’s going to end up not happening, isn’t it?

Which is where we’ve arrived. Whole areas of society have become so brainwashed that they think conservatives are outright evil and worthy of contempt.
I wonder what other things could be done in the name of, you know, justice.

Another comment about how the real world operates. If Rush buys the team and there is a player who adamantly refuses to play for the man, I bet Rush would be more than happy to trade that players butt to another team. The last thing any team wants is one or two players pulling in a direction different from everyone else no matter how talented they are. Google Terrill Owens if you don’t believe me.

The part I liked best is when he put the question of whether he’s racist or homophobic back on the interviewer: “Are you?” and made her answer it.
Like a previous commenter admitting he’s afraid of being called racist or homophobic by some leftie in the room for expressing himself. Americans will be much better off when we stop thinking we have to apologize for slavery that ended six generations before we were born.
Also, when people intuit that homosexuality is abnormal as most us do every day, and we don’t think there’s something wrong with us because of that awareness, the insanity of gay “marriage” and the rest of the homosexual agenda will go into the ditch.
It’s the best advice I can give to my children and to my students: “Trust your instincts.” And that’s what Rush Limbaugh does. That’s what makes him so good, and that’s what drives liberals crazy. They can’t lay guilt trips on him. He transcends whatever they throw his way.
“Are you?” Priceless.

StoneKrab does not actually want to engage people in an intelligent conversation. He comes here to feign outrage and be disruptive. I don’t even think he believes the things that he suggests.

I thought the interview was great and fair. The interviewer wasn’t snarky like I thought she might be. I wish Rush would do more of this because people need to see him that would never listen to his show, and see that he is not the raving bigot they think he is.
Rush seems happy and he looks better than I’ve ever seen him. To those who think he could put his money to better use elsewhere, maybe it has always been his dream to be an owner and now he has the chance and the money to do it. Isn’t that what we all strive for? He does his share for conservatism every day, which is a heck of a lot more than any of us do.

I can imagine the huge pile left on the NBC editing floor, so it’s hard to believe that after all that editing Rushs’ points (and humor) were still left quite intact. Overall, he comes across as compelling. I hope a few brain cells that happened to watch the Today show connected a synapse or two.

She was ok, but as we say here in the South, bless her heart, she got beat with the ugly stick. You kind of feel sorry for her because you know she doesnt get as much tv face time as the hot broads.

It’s a good thing we have the secret service. Have they arrested him yet? If Limbaugh were a real man he would raise objections to Obama’s policies rather than attacking the man himself./sarcasm

Fairly good interview. Rush said there were some questions that were so funny that HR had to leave the room laughing. I just love it when Conservatives do not accept the basic premise of the questions. It really throws the lib reporters off. I hated Matt Lauer’s introduction. Does he describe all exclusive interviews with such terms that bias the viewers reception of the interview? I would not know. Never watch this drivel. It takes intelligence to listen to Rush.I happen to enjoy the tweaks.
As for the NFL. It should go through and I hope he renames the team the dittoheads or some other hilarious non PC name.

I attended a 9.12 get-together this past weekend. I talked to a number of people with similar eye-opening experiences as mine. All the fuss about Fox caused them to tune in and see what was going on. They saw NEWS…. some stories they hadn’t heard about. The went online and Googled something other than recipes for the first time and saw how much INFORMATION they had been NOT hearing about.
As for myself, a very long time ago, I went to my office (self-employed writing software) and turned on the radio while I worked…. used to listen to Alan Colmes followed by Rush while I worked. I though they were both a little strong on opposite sides. This was in the Kansas City area and Rush had worked for the Royals there. I even remembered hearing his famous “Ugly People” broadcast when he worked for a local radio station. Anyway, he referred to the Kansas City Star as the Kansas City Scar.
One day while reading the paper, the entire top of the front page was a story about a “major” campaign violation by Kay Baily Hutchinson (Texas). She had her government secretary pick up her campaign buttons on the way back from lunch… waaaay back on page 18 was a tiny 3″ article about Ron Brown (Commerce Secty under Clinton) taking a $700,000 bribe from Viet Nam for pushing normalized trade relations.
At that moment, I realized that a nobody woman running for Congress in Texas should have been on page 18 and the Ron Brown story should have been all over page 1. I began paying much closer attention to Rush. Rush is right and he articulates conservative principles better than anyone else.

Wonderful comment, CapedConservative.

The NFL thing shouldn’t have started… he and the people around him should have known what the result would have been…
ninjapirate on October 12, 2009 at 8:34 PM
I love a man who tells it like is, who isn’t afraid to be “un-PC”, who has cojones: that’s why I love Rush, Fred, Cheney, etc., its why I love conservative men in general because they’re real men.
beachgirlusa on October 12, 2009 at 8:37 PM
What a hoot,Rush as always,rocks!
Long live,EIB!!

Great, now how do I scrape my pot pie off my monitor?

You are right–it’s like having a conversation with an 8th grader, who skips school once a week…
lovingmyUSA on October 12, 2009 at 9:12 PM
I’ve heard many former liberals tell stories of being forced to listen to Rush on a long road trip … by the end of the trip they were no longer liberals.
Funny how so many people have been told who to hate by the MSM, never questioning, but believing. Listen to Rush for 2 weeks and you’ll become a fan.
Rush wakes up the common sense in all of us, even if it’s been asleep for a long time.
redridinghood on October 12, 2009 at 9:23 PM
I don’t think Rush is the greatest conservative mind out there, but one thing he brings is something we rarely get from our side… and that’s really ginormous balls.
He tells it like he sees it, and doesn’t apologize. Bits like “The Magic Negro” take an awful lot of courage, but everything he does has a point, and he’s not afraid to throw some punches.
We definitely need more of that from the right.
12thMonkey on October 12, 2009 at 9:33 PM
That was a great interview! Rush was cool!
MCGIRV on October 12, 2009 at 9:57 PM
Yeah, but who is everyone talking about? Rush. So, no matter what happens with it, he wins.
Queen0fCups on October 12, 2009 at 10:20 PM
How stupid would they have to be to sabatoge their own careers? They have such short careers and when millions of $$$ are on the line, we’ll see who talks and who walks. That argument in a non-starter.
Queen0fCups on October 12, 2009 at 10:31 PM
Total homerun interview for El Rushbo. Why buy an NFL team? Buy a Caribbean tobacco plantation and cigar factory instead: the El Rushbo Churchill…
DTogo on October 12, 2009 at 10:39 PM
Rush is the bestest lovable fuzz ball out there. I love him.
Good interview. I had the sense that the gal interviewing him came away liking him in spite of her preconceived ideas, too.

Rush is awesome.
A true American icon.

Rush is an idiot magnet who became obscenely rich by verbalizing the ignorance of flyover country.
robertnyc212 on October 13, 2009 at 1:22 PM
Insult everyone, proving yourself the ignorant idiot.
That’s ok, flyover country will still keep you free, even if you are an ungrateful jacka$$.
We’re good like that.
