Obama WH to lefty bloggers: Take off the pajamas and get real

posted at 12:55 pm on October 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

It turns out that the White House likes to ignore all kinds of “community organizing,” now that Barack Obama has won the election. A march by gay-rights supporters the day after Obama offered them nothing more than a repeat of the same promises he made during the campaign on single-gender marriage and Don’t Ask – Don’t Tell got a derisive response from the White House. John Harwood reports that the Obama administration basically told the “fringe” Internet left to shut up and get real:

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Eric Zimmerman covers it this morning for The Hill:

Liberal bloggers are up in arms over a reported jab from a White House adviser.

The uproar began this weekend when NBC’s John Harwood, after reporting on a gay rights march in Washington, relayed a dismissive quote from an anonymous administration official.

“And for a sign of how seriously the White House does or doesn’t take this opposition one adviser told me today those bloggers need to take off their pajamas, get dressed and realize that governing a closely divided country is complicated and difficult,” Harwood said.

Though the quote seemed to refer to the “internet left” in general, many bloggers are taking the quote as an affront to the gay activists, who are already angry with the president for not pushing hard enough for LGBT issues.

Well, the gay activists certainly qualified as mainstream for the Obama campaign when he needed their vote. Now that they have begun to remind him of the promises he made, suddenly those same bloggers have become the “internet Left” and are fringe voices … in pajamas, natch. One can always tell an organization that fails to comprehend the nature and the reach of the blogosphere when “pajamas” gets used as a snide insult.

Say, wasn’t this the same candidate who relied heavily on online activism and regularly hailed it as a sign of increased participation in politics? I guess Obama doesn’t value that participation any longer, at least not when being held accountable for his lack of action. And when a politician has proven himself as “all talk,” as Obama has, exposing his lack of action really says all that needs to be said about him — which is why the White House lashed out in such an immature manner.

Well, yeah, but that was when it suited Teh One’s purposes…now that his minions expect him to live up to the crapola he promised to do for them, they need to just shut the h*ll up. Converting the U.S. to socialism is hard work, don’t ya know, and it’s really complicated and he doesn’t need to be bothered with silly little things like voters and promises and transparency and such…

“governing a closely divided country is complicated and difficult”

In other words…he’s in way over his head just like those of us who didn’t vote for him were saying from the start. And all the while when he was making these promises we were rolling our eyes and predicting it couldn’t be done. Fix this, close that, reform this, hope for this and change that. And what do Americans have to show for it? Nothing. Not a damn thing. I’m waiting for the speech that explains why none of his promises have come to pass. That one I would be interested in hearing.

scalleywag on October 12, 2009 at 1:46 PM

Battered LGBT Syndrome. They keep getting promises, the promises keep getting broken, they come back for more promises.

Apart from the insanity involved in expecting different results from the same behavior, the real madness of the LGBT activists and sympathizers lies in their odd fantasy that gubmint can change the attitude of society at large about them. Hint: Gay Pride Parades are not the place to start. Unless you think prancing around like a herd of douchetools in mascara will make Ma and Pa Kettle want you for in-laws.

Lefties are used to being fresh fish in jail, mugged when they try to buy dope in the wrong neighborhoods, used to believing that minorities are thought to be superior in many exotic ways while at the same time deserving of enormous obseiance and dreaming up looney projects faster than the most wealthy ‘parent figures’ can implement them. Wait… do they mean the “left,” the “left-left,” the “gays,” or the “gay-gays?”

It’s so subtle and nuanced out there.

George Orwell on October 12, 2009 at 2:15 PM

Several things:

Obama very brazenly played the part of the cipher. He encouraged everyone to see what they wanted to see in him. “Hope” meant “hope I am what you want me to be.”

Also:

Obama is still very much a “citizen of the world” but he is very strongly influenced by conservative Asian and Muslim cultures which either do not care for homosexual issues or are openly hostile to homosexuals (as in, they behead them).

This is fair retribution for all those lefties who believe everything the world does is so great and America is always the bad guy. The fact is the bulk of the world’s population is virulently anti-gay.

lahlon on October 12, 2009 at 2:50 PM

This is a tougher call than it would first appear. The logic employed here is of the same stripe as not having women in “cobat”roles. Not at all due to some kind of prejudice, but in fact to avoid the opposite. That of one being prejudice in favor of someone who might be a “lover” and hesitating in putting them in harm’s way. To avoid having to put those in command, or in any higher rank, from valuing one life over another.

This is the true reasoning by which these policies stem, not outright bigotry as the left would have you beleive.

Archimedes on October 12, 2009 at 3:04 PM

It is a shame that the left wing was not allowed to march after a right wing gathering.

The shame is that there would not be photographic evidence that the left do not care for the environment because they trash the mall, while examining the aftermath of their recent get together was everything in its proper place the trash can. The right cares.

Think about the hypocrisy of the scene. The left trashes a place making the task of cleaning up (by public servants) harder, while the right wing does the right thing. They use the trash cans, making the task of the Public servant less stressful.
