Good news: Pawlenty rounding up McCain strategists for 2012 run
posted at 9:34 pm on October 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
An all-star list of GOP strategists for his PAC’s first fundraiser. Hey — I thought Mitt was supposed to be the RINO candidate this time!
Among those interested in getting to know Pawlenty are Douglas Holtz-Eakin and Randy Scheunemann, two top policy advisers from the McCain presidential campaign who have joined the Minnesota governor’s host committee…
While Romney has a team of tested veterans to rely on if he runs again, Pawlenty is using his PAC to show off some who might come to his aid if he enters the race. Other McCain veterans teaming up with Pawlenty’s PAC are political strategists Bo Harmon, Jon Seaton and Terry Nelson, all of whom played roles in the 2008 campaign…
Earlier this month, Pawlenty rolled out a list of political and Web strategists who would serve as top advisers to his PAC — and, presumably, his eventual presidential campaign.
That list included Phil Musser, the former executive director of the Republican Governors Association; Nelson, a veteran of the Iowa caucuses who briefly served as Sen. McCain’s (R-Ariz.) campaign manager; Sara Taylor, President George W. Bush’s former political director; and Conant, a former press secretary at the Republican National Committee. The Web team includes Patrick Hynes, Liz Mair, Mindy Finn and Patrick Ruffini, all campaign veterans.
Randy Scheunemann? The same Randy Scheunemann who was Sarahcuda’s most loyal defender inside the McCain/Palin campaign? The same Randy Scheunemann who advised her on her Hong Kong speech? That Randy Scheunemann is hanging around with Tim Pawlenty now? At the very least, this means even her close advisors don’t know yet if she’s running. (Further proof that she’s not serious about politics?) At most, it means she’s decided against it and Scheunemann’s looking to latch onto someone else. Hmmmm.
Exit question: Seriously, why isn’t Mitt snapping these people up? He’s got the cash and much more name recognition than Pawlenty. Is his own campaign outfit already so well staffed that he doesn’t need any free agents?

Some of us did say Palin wasn’t that interested in running in 2012. How about a non-politician for a change…General David Petraeus perhaps?

Go whine to AP and Ed to get them banned. You’ve done it before.

At the Tea Party I attended in April, there was an incredible groundswell movement for Tim (Tom?, Ralph?,Ed?, Allah?) Pawlenty.
It was a Pawlenty-palooza!
NOT!!
There was only one political figure that had universal and enthusiastic support.
Guesss whoooo,AP?

My final remark to this article:
THE CURRENT BUNCH OF GOP STRATEGISTS ARE SYCOPHANTS….
THEY JUST GO ALONG WITH THE FLOW.
REAL STRATEGISTS THINK OUT OF THE BOX.
… I know an real strategist who actually thinks “out of the box”. And he’s a she.

We’ve given the professional politicians a chance they have failed us. Assuming Afghanistan hasn’t become a “quagmire”, let’s return to the 1952 playbook and run a General at the top of the ticket. We need a real “decider”. We need Gen. David Petraeus. VP slot could go to any successful sitting or former governor with conservative bona fides. We need a person of honor with a pair of “brass ones” to roll back the liberal damage. The professional politicians are all wusses and we are living in too dangerous a world to trust them with America.

However, if for the smallest of chances she’s not running, I want Petraeus.

T-Paw took a whuppin in the local rag last weekend for flip-flop on cap and tax. He was awesome against the MN dem tax freaks last session, and talks right about government healthcare, but he’s got this RINO tinge on the environment that he’s apparently now trying to shake.

It is time for the phonebook strategy. Pick ten people out of the book, have them all give a short unprompted speech, and run background on each to make sure they are not birthers or convicted felons. This alone makes them stronger candidates than all the DEms.
Back them and run them on a platform of ‘I love America and I will do my best to restore Constitutional law per it’s original intent. I will not serve more than two terms.’
I’m not Palin…she’s flailin
I’m not Mitt…he’s a zit
i’m not Hucky..he’s too yucky
i’m not Pawlenty…but I have plenty more
i’m not Jindal…and that’s final

He’s running to split the vote for another candidate (Romney) and get the VP nod, helping bring “Sam’s Club Republicans” to the ticket… if they win.

DaveS on October 13, 2009 at 1:33 AM
Agreed, 100%. Sarah’s political instincts are flawless, second to none. Just look at how she has been manhandling the Boy King all year long. Even the Letterman debacle. Not only did she command an apology from him, but a few months later, the tool hoists himself by his own petard. You couldn’t script this stuff any better. I don’t think even she expects it all to fall into place as perfectly as it always does. It’s as though it is effortless to her. Like she’s Michael Phelps in the swimming pool. The woman has a gift. And that gift is what tells her when to strike and the time to strike is 2012 — that’s when the iron will be at its hottest for her. In the meantime, she is doing an exceptional job of maintaining an aura of mystery and not making the mistake Barry has made of overexposing herself. I think it’s a little early to say definitively which advisors and strategists are going to play on which teams. How can anyone make that kind of commitment to a candidate yet when no one has even declared an intention to run? This isn’t a kickball game. It isn’t as though a person has to commit at this stage to one candidate and one candidate only. I would think it’s possible to offer advice to multiple candidates this early in the game without having to worry about getting pegged as being squarely in So-and-So’s camp. I do like the theory that Tim P. might be positioning himself as a VP candidate and that Randy is maybe doing a reconnaissance mission for the Cuda. I don’t know too awful much about Pawlenty, but I do know he’s never imposed government-run healthcare on the citizens of MN so that’s a point in his favor in my book. ;o)
Whatever is going on, Sarah is going to run in 2012. And she will win the Republican nomination. Handily. The general election may end up being a nail biter; it will depend on on badly Obama screws everything up before then. But I think come 1/20/13, she’ll be laying her hand on the Bible and swearing to faithfully defend and protect the Constitution.

I dunno, maybe if he runs, he actually wants to win?
Can’t win with the chuckleheads who ran the craptacular McCain campaign.
Stakes are too high to run a two-bit hackneyed campaign in 2012. Better to run a competent one and maybe win than hire the losers who got pulped by a community organizer with no resume to run on.

By the way, jetboy. boehner and mcconnell and their republican toadies in congress are more responsible for barry being in the White House then george bush. 12 years in control and they acted like democrats on steroids. Squid Shark on October 13, 2009 at 6:55 AM
My thoughts exactly…..maybe he is working with them to find out how not to lose. Who ever runs in 2012 better look for people who want to win and know how to get the candidate to the winner’s circle and McCain’s old group won’t get that done.
yoda on October 13, 2009 at 6:57 AM
Probably for Primary strategy more than anything.
McCain did beat all comers in 4 rounds in the primaries, or did everyone forget that our show was over 4 months before theirs.
Squid Shark on October 13, 2009 at 7:01 AM
You might have something there SS. When McCain came back to Washington D.C. back in September 2008, his campaign started to go down the tubes.
yoda on October 13, 2009 at 7:12 AM
That is how you end up with Colin Powell, a leftist on domestic issues in charge.
Petreaus is good as a Veep because he brings foreign policy weight.
You do not want to gamble with the rest of the show.
He can be Sarah’s Veep to bring weight to the ticket in the event there are still voters who think she needs a foreign policy veep.
Sapwolf on October 13, 2009 at 7:16 AM
McCain didn’t want to get in the way of history. Perhaps if he had a real will to win, his election showing would have been a lot better.
2Brave2Bscared on October 13, 2009 at 7:22 AM
Carter loses and the Dems nominate Mondale in 1984.
Mondale loses in 19984. So the Dems nominate Dukakis in 1988.
Dukakis loses.
The GOP is doing the same thing. Put up a liberal. Lose. Put up a liberal again. Lose. Put up a liberal, lose again. Maybe they’ll figure it out by 2020.
angryed on October 13, 2009 at 7:26 AM
Too bad we didn’t know that back in 2008. If a candidate doesn’t have desire to win, then they had better not run. History shouldn’t have a thing to do with it. Come to think about it, McCain had some history on his side too…..strong female V.P.

McCain won because he didn’t lose. He basically won by coming in second a lot to Huckabee and then squeaking out wins against Romney, or winning 30% to 29% Huck to 28% Romney but getting 100% of the delegates. I don’t think McCain got 50% of any primary before he was declared the winner.
And because he won like that, he had no enthusiasm from 50-60% of the GOP. Pawlenty will be a do-over. And he will get crushed by Obama. Hell I might even vote for Obama too if the GOP keeps putting up these sorry excuses for candidates. If we’re going socialist, let’s go all the way baby!!
angryed on October 13, 2009 at 7:32 AM
Not exactly shocking news that “T-Paw” loves his McRINOs. My two lasting impressions of “T-Paw” from the 08 campaign are: how incredibly ineffective he was pitching for McCain on TV (one particularly embarrassing episode); and how loudly he and his supporters whined after McCain picked Palin instead of him. Loser.

Blacksmith8 on October 13, 2009 at 9:08 AM
Seems as if the R’s have already picked out the candidate for us. Swell, saves us a lot of time and money on primaries.
Kissmygrits on October 13, 2009 at 9:24 AM
The republicans are just another political, progressive party. For conservatives, the Republican Party is no better than the Democrat Party. That’s the bad news… there is no good news. Conservatives are doomed to failure and minority status unless they get off their duffs and create their own party to run actual conservative candidates.
Griz on October 13, 2009 at 9:26 AM
Yay! Minnesota is such a bastion of solid, core conservative principals.
SouthernGent on October 13, 2009 at 9:36 AM
Depends on the people and whether or not they were the ones who think that the GOP has no room for social and Christian conservatives. McCain failed because he tried to appeal to Democrat “moderates.” I’m not sure those ideas didn’t come from Senator Triceratops himself instead of his staffers.
highhopes on October 13, 2009 at 9:37 AM
There is not doubt that what ghoul said was racist. Absolutely sickening.
terryannonline on October 12, 2009 at 10:25 PM
It might be birtherism, but it’s not racist. His father was from Kenya and there is some slight question as to Jug-ears actual nationality; fed, in part, by Zerobama’s refusal to put the issue to rest (which serves his political ends).
That you find it “absolutely sickening” displays a remarkably weak stomach or a grossly overactive (and selective) liberal sense of outgrage.
SKYFOX on October 13, 2009 at 9:46 AM
Given how lame that campaign was, that headline sounds like good news for Sarah Palin and the rest of the competition.
Mr. Joe on October 13, 2009 at 9:53 AM
“Those who fail to learn from History, are doomed to repeat it”. If The Republican Party thinks they can run a Beltway Insider again and win the hearts of the rest of the country, they are making a huge mistake. Every politician in the Administration and Congress has been tainted to some degree with the deserved perception that they are not listening to anyone by themselves.

Probably been said before, but this is not actually a recipe for success snapping up all the losers off a losing team!
Two things this gives me hope for:
1.) McCain is not going to run and not fight, fight, fight again.
2.) The lossers from last year will aline themselves with a squish from Minnesota who will have zero chance at the nomination once Sarah puts together a team

It’s good to see that even people on our side are adhering to the enhanced definition of racism. I didn’t see anything racist in that comment. We are allowing the opposition to define the battleground and we cannot win under those circumstances. Most birthers aren’t racist, and we shouldn’t adopt the liberal practice of calling someone who has an unpopular argument an ugly name to get them to shut up and be quiet.

Gov. Palin supported the position of the head of her ticket. She made a decision to not undermine his campaign, because he was in charge. She did not have access to the information given to the legislators prior to the vote, she certainly wasn’t in the meetings McCain and the other legislators attended on the subject, and was not in a position to actually vote on the legislation.
