Flashback video: Obama tells beloved, not-at-all-corrupt union to “paint the nation purple”

posted at 6:20 pm on October 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

A palate cleanser dedicated to my boss, the biggest SEIU fan of all. Fun stuff, but let’s be fair: This was shot in early 2008, back when he was telling people whatever garbage he had to in order to get them on his side against Hillary. Remember how he was going to end “don’t ask, don’t tell” and win the “necessary war” in Afghanistan and do whatever it takes to stop Iran from getting the bomb? A sloppy kiss for the union thugs he’d eventually be counting on to fill seats at health-care town halls and maybe stomp an occasional conservative or two is a venial sin viewed from that perspective.

Besides, we’ve all seen the video of him from 2003 blowing smoke about single-payer in front of an AFSCME crowd. Telling unions what they want to hear is just sort of what he does.

This is one promise Obama is working hard to fulfill. The SEIU, and other unions, are being repaid by Obama and are gaining influence to the substantial detriment of our economy.

GaltBlvnAtty on October 12, 2009 at 6:23 PM

Dammit. I look terrible in purple.

But these are the people he actually associates with. It’s one thing to say he promises stuff to gays to get votes, but what has he really done before public office? He ran around with radical union and community organizing people (not to mention communists, anti-Semites, and anti-American conspiracy theoriests). You’ve really got to stop acting like this guy is just another Bill Clinton type of politician and realize that he wasn’t screwing around when he promised to “fundamentally transform” the country. Radicals who oppose the American way are not the except, but the rule when you consider who he’s spent his entire life around.

RightWinged on October 12, 2009 at 6:25 PM

Funny, Glenn Beck just played that clip tonight and pointed out about twenty of the white coated doctors at the white coat summit were SEIU employees.

fourdeucer on October 12, 2009 at 6:26 PM

From Barry O himself

“I’ve spent my entire adult life working with SEIU. I’m not a newcomer to this,” Obama said. “I didn’t suddenly discover SEIU on the campaign trail. Oh, y’all organize. You wear purple, do you?” he said, referring to the spirit color the SEIU has chosen.

Telling unions everyone he thinks might be listening what they want to hear is just sort of what he does continues to do, day after day.

BigWyo on October 12, 2009 at 6:29 PM

I think Obama is doing what you would expect Chavez or Castro to do … Did you see the pictures of Odinga and Obama yelling at the natives in Kenya? That’s who he is and what he thinks.

The problem is Americans are talking back, can’t have that, just ask Castro.

tarpon on October 12, 2009 at 6:29 PM

Note that Obama’s administration has announced that tomorrow it will publish a rule rescinding some union reporting requirements.

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what’s your line
He said it’s eatin’ purple people and it sure is fine
But that’s not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flyin’ purple people eater
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin’ purple people eater
(We wear short shorts)
Flyin’ purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me

So, are there any examples of this SEIU “corruption” you could link to? And by “corruption” I mean financial stuff, like bribery and embezzlement. I’ve seen stories about ACORN embezzlement but never the SEIU. Just curious.

AJB on October 12, 2009 at 6:30 PM

As another commenter pointed out today, maybe Obama is not a communist, but a syndicalist.

Wiki: Syndicalism is a type of economic system proposed as a replacement for capitalism and state socialism which uses federations of collectivized trade unions.

union thugs

Really AP? I didn’t take you for a conservative echo chamber parrot. You take a isolated incident and use it to smear the whole SEIU organization as “union thugs”. This is getting old. This coming from the same people who cry when people make generalizations about the tea-party protestors due to a couple of signs. LAME.

I have no reason to question his sincerity when it comes to supporting goonions. He lies about other stuff, but he’ll always be true to “community organizing”, unions, and other corrupt redistributionist enterprises.

Mussolini had black, and Hitler had brown. Purple is the color of Obama’s parasite army.

If the unions want it, it’s bad for America, so one assumes Obama wants the same things.

StoneKrab on October 12, 2009 at 6:31 PM

“Isolated incident”? You’re kidding, right??? You must have been on an island during the townhall meetings–or the association with ACORN…

lovingmyUSA on October 12, 2009 at 6:48 PM

Allah’s been doing some bad purple shrooms. Why would Obama not support to the max and want to increase membership in SEIU? They gave his campaign at least $$60 Million, worked closely with Acorn to help fraud the vote and the caucuses. They will gladly be his domestic foot soldiers; they already started pre-training at the town halls. Yes, Obama’s future with them is so bright we will all need to wear shades. Come down off of your bad high, AP; can’t understand a word you are saying.

StoneKrab on October 12, 2009 at 6:31 PM

Oh boo freakin’ hoo. The Democrat leadership runs around talking about how worried they are about violence from conservative activists when the only examples of actual violence so far has come from lefties…but we can’t talk about it because “that’s not fair.”

Give. Me. A. Break.

Joe Caps on October 12, 2009 at 6:49 PM

Oh and BTW there are union thugs. The ones that show up to cause trouble and beat people up qualify as thugs. Calling them union thugs is not smearing all union members. Isn’t that obvious?

I hear you brother, but for some strange reason many here trust the government, the rest see the corruption, and want most in power, in jail. Time will tell, will we wake up? I am glad to say that more are than I thought.

I love my Aussie bothers and sisters, you guys are our best allies, I hope our currently elected don’t try to change our unique bond. IMHO, the people of America, Australia, Israel, and Poland, understand the cost of freedom, we’ve all paid for it in blood, and the lives of our youth. If not for your gun laws, I could happily live in OZ.

Just a note about elections: You don’t have to wait until 2010 to vote. Please vote and make a statement in your November 3, 2009 local or state elections.

We here in Pennsylvania have a Superior Court judge who is running for PA Supreme Court. You should see the LOADS of union endorsements he has gotten. One endorsement that he is particularly proud of is from the Pennsylvania SEIU.

Hell, I’ll make sure to go to the polls just to vote against this guy.

Please take note of your seemingly benign local candidates. There might be a similar SEIU man or woman lurking about!
