Video: White House communications chief whines about Fox News, media for nine minutes

posted at 6:46 pm on October 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Let’s not pretend they’re a news network the way CNN is,” she says, flattering the impartial, hard-news sensibility of an outfit that’s recently taken to fact-checking comedy skits on behalf of His Holiness. In fact, here’s what was airing on the “nonpartisan” cable news channel this morning before and after this miserable hack’s appearance:

All morning, CNN has been intermittently running a promo for Anderson Cooper 360, a show that has long billed itself as a classic straight news program with an investigative front man who digs “beyond the headlines” with “many points of view, so you can make up your own mind.” The new promo, by contrast, consists of a woman’s voice, pitching Cooper’s show as, essentially, a liberal alternative to Fox News: “I’m a lifelong Democrat,” she says, “and that’s why I watch Anderson Cooper.” Hmmm. The voice goes on to say that Cooper is the person she can turn to hold “right wing” conservatives accountable. Cooper is not exactly aiming for the political middle ground here.

A guy known for making “teabagging” jokes about conservatives appeals to Democrats? Go figure. Meanwhile, not a word is breathed here about the nightly backrubs that The One gets from Olbermann and Maddow on MSNBC, despite Dunn practically begging for a question in that vein by whining about Fox being aligned with one of the two major parties. Good work, Kurtz.

The clip of Chris Wallace calling them a bunch of crybabies is obligatory in any post about the most media-worshiped president since JFK whining about his coverage, but we’ve used it twice in just the past five days. So below, to administer the coup de grace, you’ll find a new one featuring our favorite liberal. Take it away, KP.

Allah linked 9 minutes of the current administration whining about Fox News?

9 whole minutes of whining.

9 minutes…

Dude not cool. I hope no one watches the whole thing.

“Let’s not pretend they’re a news network the way CNN is,”

Well, I agree with her up to that point in her statement.

Red State State of Mind on October 11, 2009 at 6:53 PM

The White House Communications Chief doesn’t have anything better to do with her time than to whine about FNC? Cris Wallace is right; the Obama administration is ‘the biggest bunch of crybabies!

If Team Obama is interested in speaking to my family & friends; we’ll be watching FOX 24/7! Oh. And NO WHINING!

TN Mom on October 11, 2009 at 6:57 PM

I have news for her. CNN is NOT a news organization. They are a propaganda mouth piece for left-wing extremists, such as the Obama administration. Fox News is a more traditional news organization that actually practices journalism.

And for that matter, the Obama administration is not a REAL administration, not like the Reagan administration was. Now there was an administration that cared about the nation, its people, and knew what it was doing!

MeAlice on October 11, 2009 at 6:57 PM

Nope not gonna watch it.

Personally I think it is unseemly for a President to act like such a thin skinned whiner.

I mean come on, not everyone is going to kiss his butt all the time.

Terrye on October 11, 2009 at 6:58 PM

She said “When he goes on Fox”. Does he ever do that?

Backrubs? So that’s what they call it now.

30 seconds, and my ears started bleeding from the whining…good grief, that voice is irritating…usually whining is a just a description, but she brought it to life.

ctmom on October 11, 2009 at 7:04 PM

Anita Dunn is in the wrong line of work.

d1carter on October 11, 2009 at 7:04 PM

For Ms. Dunn to suggest–with a straight face, no less–studies had shown that Fox was biased, while CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. were not, is nothing short of astounding.

ncborn on October 11, 2009 at 7:04 PM

This is the dumbest media-savy administration ever. Every media outlet, save for one, is in the tank for them. Instead of accepting their enormous fortune and remaining quiet, they call attention to their childishness. Bad move. People will not put up with the whining for long, and FNC is only gaining viewers.

Erich66 on October 11, 2009 at 7:05 PM

Backrubs? So that’s what they call it now.

MB4 on October 11, 2009 at 6:59 PM

Yup, massages and wide stances and all that.

I do think there should be some clarification though. Someone like O’Reilly gives “backrubs” but MSNBC goes way further than that.

I bet Kirsten Powers got a call from the WH after that.

I really don’t get Anderson Cooper at all. Besides his far-Left tilt, the guy is just boring. I know his mother is Gloria Vanderbilt and he got his job through her connections, but really the show is unwatchable. I think his ratings are about the lowest of any other prime time news show. I think even Ed Schultz comes in higher from time to time. I guess Gloria and Ted Turner are tight, so that’s why they keep him around. I mean after talking about his own experiences with other men’s furry boys (the “teabagging” diatribe)ad nauseum for ten minutes, you’d think they would have gotten rid of him. Seriously, AC has probably taken more balls to the chin than Hughie Jennings. Now, whenever I see his pale-eyed mug whilst channel surfing I feel like I need to hurl.

Of course she does, because he’s the only guy who showed videos supplied by our enemies, showing the view of American soldiers thru sniper scopes just before they were taken out.

Del Dolemonte on October 11, 2009 at 7:24 PM

I have never seen any administration whine so much. Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush never complained so much or try to blame others. This is not a sign of leadership. Not a surprise considering Obama really never led anything.

This has got to be without question the most thin-skinned administration I have ever seen! These guys are absolutely determined to make Fox News look bad, despite the fact that it is Fox News alone that is presenting both sides of the issue and letting viewers decide for themselves where they stand on the issues.

Fox News, don’t let up! Make these guys sweat and moan! It means that you are doing the job that the MSM should be doing!

(OH – I knew about John Ensign from Fox)

LifeTrek on October 11, 2009 at 7:29 PM

The new promo, by contrast, consists of a woman’s voice, pitching Cooper’s show as, essentially, a liberal alternative to Fox News: “I’m a lifelong Democrat,” she says, “and that’s why I watch Anderson Cooper.” Hmmm. The voice goes on to say that Cooper is the person she can turn to hold “right wing” conservatives accountable. Cooper is not exactly aiming for the political middle ground here.

I don’t think it is taking aim at Fox News but MSNBC. CNN and MSNBC are competing for liberal viewers. Like many have said before the reason why Fox News gets great ratings is because they don’t compete with other conservative news networks. CNN and MSNBC, however, do I have to compete for a niche audience. So I think this more an attempt of trying to get MSNBC viewers than Fox News. CNN and Fox News are not competing for the same audience. And notice how the audience focus on the “middle ground.” They want liberal Democrats who are turned off by Keith Olbermann types.

terryannonline on October 11, 2009 at 7:29 PM

Linda Douglass wasn’t available to do this whine session?

SouthernGent on October 11, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Are these people twelve? How is anyone suppose to have confidence that they are capable of facing the problems of the nation head on, when all they do is complain that people are mean to them? They are a joke.

Cindy Munford on October 11, 2009 at 7:33 PM

Projection from the WH as they have the the three networks, CNN and MSNBC as their propaganda arm and won’t rest until they have no voices of dissent. When “their” people “go rogue” they are punished and the offenders meekly get back in line.

And the complaining about “lies” not going unrefuted, this from an administration that has made the most disgraceful of charges about their predecessors.

The media should be shocked to their core that an American presidency would behave in such a fashion but clearly many of them approve—as long as they get to carry out the wishes of their overlords.

DISGRACEFUL

BTW, Anita flat-out lied by alleging Fox News did not report on the John Ensign story at all. I hope (but won’t hold my breath) that Howard Kurtz, who said he had to check that, does check it and then calls her out and that deceitful administration.

As for Anderson Cooper, he had one brief period in time where he was terrific. It was during the “Cedar Revolution” and he had gone off to Lebanon to report…even went over the border into Syria…and did some great reporting. He told the audience how many people there were praising George W. Bush.

Then he went back to his old ways and never looked back, apparently.

I fully realize this is a pointless topic for most people out there, but she’s a TV pundit on the network known for having the most intelligent AND attractive women. On the very same panel featured in that clip, Andrea Tantaros looked absolutely perfectly polished and beautiful, and I was thankful every time the camera turned to her. Tantaros brought it, and KP looked like (as a friend has mentioned to me before) she just had a quickie in the copy room.

Hey 7

What a great question. I was thinking about that today too. As in what did the WH know and when did they know it? I’ve been laughing about the NPP all weekend and was suddenly reminded about a very old Johnny Carson show. Johnny interviewed an average-Joe-type man who had been called in the middle of the night to be told he had won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He kept telling the Nobel Panel that this was some kind of joke and trying to joke back. Turned out the real winner of Chemistry Prize had the same name, lived in the same city, went to the same college as Joe. It was a pretty funny interview. Cooincidentally Joe minored in chemistry, which is why he thought that his friends were playing a prank.

Anyhoo, I checked YouTube to see if the video was there and found a video of the Pope / Obama meeting and remarks about the NPP, didn’t watch it, but you could do a search and see if you can find. Sorry to go on for so long.
