Video: Global warming arrives in Minnesota
posted at 12:30 pm on October 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
As I wrote earlier this week, we anticipated our first snow of the season last night — and it arrived. Officially we were supposed to get a mix of snow and rain, but as you can see in this video, the Twin Cities got enough snow that it stuck to the ground through the mid-morning. When I shot this off of my deck, the temperature was still at 29.5 degrees, which is rather crisp for the 19th day ofautumn:
Every time I post about this, people send me e-mails saying that “of course the weather changes from day to day — that doesn’t prove anything!” Well, that’s exactly my point. Weather gets warmer and cooler every day, month, year, decade, all the way to ages and eons, and has long before mankind began releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
However, the trend for the past eleven years has been cooling, not warming, which tends to disprove any relation to CO2 release and warming temperatures. We had the first summer in recent memory where Minnesota did not sustain high temps of 90 degrees for any extended period, if we hit it at all. We have had two cold and long winters in a row, and today indicates that 2009-10 will be longer and colder yet; last year, we didn’t get our first sticking snowfall until the end of October.
Technical notes: I shot this with my Flip Ultra HD, which was my first outdoor use, and it looks pretty good. I edited two clips into one movie, added the titles, and uploaded it to my YouTube channel with the FlipShare software, which made it pretty easy. Just for the FTC, no one compensated me for this message.

Facts have nothing to do with the global warming faux debate. Cap and trade is about energy control, pricing and controlling the means of production. The end game remains the same–central planning.
The original folks behind global cooling are the same folks behind global warming. The goal then as now is the same. Spend some time reading the reports in the 70′s and they are the same as today. Only the excuse is changed.

In a stunning announcment, the IPCC has stated they have a new study that prooves that CO2 has caused the increased volcanic and tectonic activity which has caused the recent spat of undersea Earthquakes in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Based on this study, the UN has declared that the US must pay a 30% VAT tax to help alleviate the suffering, and to help combat undersea volcanic activity.

On Friday one of my coworkers showed me a photo of the backyard of her friend who lives near Helena, Montana. At least two inches of snow had fallen. Their temps are in the twenties, with more snow expected. In Washington state the temps at night have fallen into the low 30′s. I woke up to a pale frost on the roofs of my neighbors on Monday morning.

Go here and then enter “Most Recent 12-month Period” in the period field. You will have to scroll the pick list down, it is at the bottom. Select 1999 as the “First Year to Display”. Then click “submit”.
You will find that North America has been experiencing a cooling trend over the past 10 years of -0.77 degrees per decade. That is a huge trend considering that “Global Warming” is only 1 to 1.5 degrees per century.
We are currently less than half a degree above the 1901 to 2000 average.

Same here in Denver. Big fat flakes coming down all morning.
I was talking with a co-worker the other day and was laughing about global warming. I said “so what’s with freezing temperatures and snow in October”?
Her response (before she stormed away in disgust), “Cold temperatures are all a result of global warming”!!

October snow is not news, it almost always snows in Denver in October and very frequently in September. The earliest snowfall ever recorded was September 3rd. I even saw it snow in July at 7500 feet when I was a kid.
On the reverse side, it can be 70 in January. My second year of college I had a fabulous tan by spring break in March and it wasn’t from skiing.
That said, it is very cold today – 16 degrees this morning – and they’ve postponed the baseball game. Baseball players aren’t as tough as football players I guess.
The great thing about Colorado though, is it will be 55 and sunny tomorrow and all traces of the snow will be gone.

Global Warming – Thr biggest fricking hoax on mankind since communism/socialism – and what do both the environMENTALists and commies share in common ? an overwhelming desire to control the means of production, a desire to preach about “shared sacrifices” and an overwhelming desire to control people’s lives and their freedoms.

conservative pilgrim on October 10, 2009 at 1:16 PM
I had an overnight in Denver last week, it was fah-REEEEEZZZZ-ing!
We had a mild summer this year, I hope this doesn’t mean we’re gonna have an extra cold winter, I don’t wanna win that argument with the Lefties! I’d rather say “You know, it’s not very cold this winter, maybe you guys were right … for once.”
Tony737 on October 10, 2009 at 1:16 PM
The cause of the coming long, cold winter is low sun-spot activity. Everyone in the climate field has been talking about this since last spring. Records show that when sun-spots don’t return as the cycle turns upward, the northern hemisphere gets really cold for a year or two. Stock up on fire wood and longjohns, you’ll need them.
lonesomecharlie on October 10, 2009 at 1:18 PM
I woke up this morning to 4-5 inches of snow on the ground here in the Omaha, NE area! The forecast only called for about half-an-inch that would melt by midday. Imagine the sight out my window: there’s enough snow that you can’t see the (now dying) green grass sticking out, and most of the trees are still green! On top of that, it’s 30 degrees, with lows tonight nearing the teens! Freakin’ weird…
Two weeks ago were flirting with 75-80 degrees.
KellyBomelly on October 10, 2009 at 1:18 PM
So what is the left’s argument of the day on this one: global warming? Global climate change? That carbon emissions are bad just because they are, and any possible long-term climate impact is just icing on the(ir) cake? It’s hard to keep up!
Which, you would think, would also make it hard to support. Unfortunately, we all are not so lucky.

What I want to know is if we enter a sustained period of undeniable cooling will the global warming crowd suggest that we increase our carbon emissions to save the earth from cooling too much or will they will just bag the whole idea that carbon emissions cause the planet to warm.

fogw on October 10, 2009 at 1:31 PM
Here is the instrumental temperature record from 1980 – 2005. As you can see, the overall trend is warming, even though the global mean temperature was significantly lower in 2005 than its recent maximum circa 1998 (which, iirc, was the result of a strong El Niño). This doesn’t prove AGW, of course, but it certainly doesn’t disprove it.
According to the climate models, temperatures are expected to rise in kind of a drunk walk over the next 100 years. I don’t know if the models are right. I have a problem with how they’ve been treated like gospel before there’s been a chance to examine their predictions on the decadal resolution that they can attain. But… a decade of cooling is consistent with their theory. In fact, that’s exactly what one prominent climate scientist is predicting for the next decade.
I don’t have a problem with AGW skepticism. I consider myself a skeptic, but “it’s snowing in Minnesota” isn’t a valid criticism of AGW (even though it’s probably an effective one).

That’s why they had to change it from Global Warming to Climate Change. No one really knows what Climate Change really means, after all the climate changes all the time. But the Global Warming mantra hasn’t fit the data for some time now, so they had to back off that. It’s all so phony its pathetic. Yet the globalists are still trying to convince you to give up your freedom for this hoax and Obama is taking up the mantle along with McCain!

Ironically, all it would take to end this argument is for our illustrious press corps to corral Al Gore and start making him defend his assinine theories.
There too, start suggesting that all the funding Congress sends out there to study this stuff, obviously isn’t being spent wisely. The problem is, the money is sent out there to prove that man is responsible for global warming, rather than asking what influences our weather, which could be a much more noble study and one that could actually reveal worthwhile results.

These people will use any means and stop and nothing to perform social engineering to control us and effect what THEY think is correct.
dogsoldier on October 10, 2009 at 2:03 PM
Holdren:
They continued: “Even more dramatic results are possible, however; for instance, a sudden outward slumping in the Antarctic ice cap, induced by added weight, could generate a tidal wave of proportions unprecedented in recorded history.”
The authors then predicted global cooling could “give way to global warming,” writing: “If man survives the comparatively short-term threat of making the planet too cold, there is every indication he is quite capable of making it too warm not long thereafter.”
Why? Because overpopulation would lead to increased energy consumption and energy consumption would produce more heat, the authors argued.
This shit is funny but not as funny as the scare movie “The day after tomorrow.” Funniest movie I’ve seen in a long time.
It’s not about weather or the earth. It’s about making us poor so everybody can be poor together!!! Which wouldn’t work btw

Saw it coming in betwixt 2 & 3 this morning. The heavy mist turned to snow as the wind whipped it around. We also had our first power outage over here in the eastburbs about 7:30 this morning, so it was about 60 degrees by the time the power came back on around 9:30 or 10:00am. No more turning the thermostat down to 69-70 at night. Sucks to be stuck in Minnesnowta.
Oh, one more thing. Went to two big outdoor stores (in Owatona and Rodgers) last week looking for a new Winter coat. They’re not in yet. Did they forget we have Winter here? Do they only watch Algore”s Current tv and planned on global warming? One big wtf to them.
