He deserves promotion from the green room to the main studio.

For all of it's faux modernity, Europe has never gotten over it's knee jerk worship of aristocracy. It's self absorbed superiority is always just under the surface of it's every utterance and blatantly obvious in it's condescending pretensions to world leadership. Like a Paris waiter, it just can't imagine anyone quite as infused with civil virtue and intellectual nuance as he and his friends. And certainly not those crude Americans - Puleeze!
Having endorsed Obama early in the campaign, Europe is feeling smugly vindicated that he hasn't lifted the veil on their fatuous corruption like his predecessor did, and seems to beautifully embody America's continuing guilt over the artificially enhanced sins of it's checkered past.
The profound inanity of the Nobel award to their American Darling, says far more of interest and consequence about Europe than it does about either Obama or America - and NONE of it is very flattering!
Some day, when we've made all of the social progress that so-called "Progressives" love to talk about, some wide-eyed naif will once again gush about how "significant" Obama was as America's first black president, and the adults in the room will stare in confusion and ask "So what? What did his color have to do with anything?". Until that much awaited day comes, I will insistently assert that the left in America has yet to get past it's blatant racism. All they've done is slap a "Smiley Face" on it and piously point it in another direction.
Indeed, racism is every bit as alive and well as Dr. King encountered it 50 years ago, and stands ready to be used by the left at a moment's notice. George Wallace, for all of his vile cynicism, was a far more honest man than Al Gore or Barack Obama when he openly admitted that he had built his political career by simply picking the race card up out of the gutter of Old South politics and using it better than any of his opponents. He would always insist that he never hated any man because of his race, but was only doing what he was forced to do to succeed in 1950's Alabama, and naively tried to claim some virtue in the microscopic distinction.
One would think that the "Progressive" left should at least attempt the shallow lip service to honesty.

Since the Nobel Peace Prize committee is made up of members of the Norwegian Parliament, the Prize has become Norway`s method of becoming a voice in world politics.

Norway is a far out of the way, cold, wet, small nobody country in the world and their egoistic politicians must feel slighted for no one listening to their lofty, intellectual Nordic wisdom. Hence they use the Nobel Peace Prize as their only way to inject their politics onto the world stage.

Instead of calling it the the “Nobel Peace Prize”, they should change the name to the “Norwegian Politics Prize”, given to the person or group who most reflects the political opinion of the Norwegian parliament.

Oh stuff it. Ann, unlike Bleeds Brains and similarly moronic posters, is not a mindless slandermonkey who's sole method of discussion is to spew insults and copied talking points.

When liberals act like demented chimpanzees, we can't have a discussion beyond "sit down, STFU, let your elders and betters run the show." But when they can converse politely and with reasonable viewpoints, I'm more than happy to talk.

There are more conservatives needed in the Academy, and I would urge any of you who feel the calling to return to grad school and take up teaching on the college level. It is sometimes discouraging, but ultimately rewarding to see conservative thought making inroads on college campuses. College Prof on October 10, 2009
Standing with you, Prof. I am a relative newcomer to the Academy, having been a worker and manager most of my professional life. It is a different atmosphere, but extremely rewarding and enjoyable. Fellow Faculty can be challenging, but I like your stealth approach. Mom was right about the whole "catching more flies with honey than vinegar" thing. Glad you are out there!

I turn once again to the wisdom of Spiderman.

Spidey gets utterly ridiculed and denigrated, and retreats from his heroism.

Then the populace gets overrun by true evil, and they beg for Spidey to come save them.

Like the conservatives who refused to vote for McCain, opting instead for a brief stint of a wholly incompetent socialist so that the country would learn a lesson, I'm starting to think we should let these European creeps fend for themselves for awhile.

But now the world is forgetting, and I fear that evil is loose again and slouching towards Bethlehem.

Evil or whatever it is, something dangerous seems pandemic, on the loose. I remember thinking during my college studies of WWI and WWII that world and domestic conditions as deranged as this would never happen again, at least in my lifetime. Silly me.

I'm thinking this period is like the end of WWI, with its "treaties" and "armistice." The tyrants were left unchecked, and war returned with a vengeance within a generation.

Only with Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Dresden--total war--did we finally destroy the evil. But now the world is forgetting, and I fear that evil is loose again and slouching towards Bethlehem.

That’s what worries me. What happened to the decent (mainly classic) libs who used to be the mainstream of the Democrat Party? Have they been so decimated by the Soros wing that they’re unable to regain control of their party?

what happened ? Death happened - as in JFK's assasination.JFK was killed by a Marxist - something the Left could never come to grips with and tried to shamefully lie about (Oliver Stone's creepy conspiracy theory movie is the best example)

James Piereson may be able to answer your question.

Bingo:

It's not so much that he's a phony, knows nothing about economics, is historically illiterate, and woefully small minded for the size of the task-- all contributory of course. It's that he's not one of us. And whatever he is, his profile is fuzzy and devoid of content, like a cardboard cutout made from delaminated corrugated paper. Moreover, he doesn't command our respect and is unable to appeal to our own common sense. His notions of right and wrong are repugnant and how things work just don't add up. They are not existential. His descriptions of the world we live in don't make sense and don't correspond with our experience.

If the attitude from the Not-So-Nobel Committee is sincere in it's rewarding peacekeeping efforts and warm fuzzies for the world, Why hasn't the United Nations been awarded, instead of Obama?

AnninCA on October 10, 2009 at 2:03 PM

My opinion: Campaign Finance Reform.

That POS had numerous 'trap-doors' written into it specifically for the Far Left 527's who were lined up and ready to go once the ink was dry.

With that one piece of legislation the money-generating framework of the Democrat Party was by-passed and given over the 'ultra-rich' Leftists who, by virtue of their huge war chests gave them influence not seen since the 'Robber Barons' of the late 19th Century.

The hunger for 'big bucks' that tied the DP to the Clintons became an all-consuming addiction that has led your party to this moment in time.

I too was a democrat many years ago; the party I admired turned away from the things I held to be important. While I'm doubtlessly far more conservative [socially] than you, you will have to face your moment of truth if your words are any indication of your mind-set.

There is no Democratic Party left save in name only; those who cling to it solely on reflex are embracing a monster clad in the skin of a memory that ended by the early 1970's.

My only advice: let your conscience be your guide.

College Prof on October 10, 2009 at 3:46 PM

Thank you, Loxodonta.

You're welcome.

I also strive not to attempt to indoctrinate my students, preferring to give them the tools to employ rational reasoning and common sense to apply to ordinary issues and everyday circumstances.

Here is the key to opening minds and helping them work. Much praise and more power to you for employing this approach.

We desperately need more self-directed, independent and critical thinkers, and less wolves and sheep in our country. This does mean, of course, there will be a diversity of opinion from left to right, which will require debate, as civil as possible, but sometimes heated, and occasional compromise to forge majorities to actually get things done.

Is that any way to run a country?

Why, yes. It is.

Like eating an elephant, it’s done one bite at a time.

I'm available, whenever you wish. Please be gentle.

Don't tell your husband.

Never has so much praise and adoration been heaped upon someone who has accomplished so little like we are watching with the messiah worship of Obama.

This is why it will amount to absolutely Zero.

Zero X anything is always Zero. Only fools believe otherwise. America wise up!

More independents say they lean Republican than Democratic in a recent Gallup survey, narrowing the GOP’s gap in party ID to the closest it’s been since 2005.

When Obama suggested he wanted to be another Reagan, surely this wasn’t what he had in mind. But for now, he’s the right’s best community organizer.

I work in mental health, so I understand how it is to be the voice of conservatism in a sea of liberalism.

Another point - I wonder how our European brothers will feel about the USA with Obama in charge if the Russian bear decides to increase her hungry eyes to the west?? The USA has protected and saved them in WW I, WW II, and the Cold War along with many others outside for almost 100 years.
