“I have just notified the Nobel Peace Prize Committee that upon due consideration, I have decided to decline the great honor they have presented me and therefore will not be going to Oslo in December.
I explained to them, I hope convincingly, that I should have done this yesterday, after the award was announced. But to be honest, I was in a state of shock and not thinking clearly. A President of the United States must be prepared for any news, any time someone walks through the door. But being told that I had won the Nobel Peace Prize was simply not on what the National Security folks call ‘the Threat Board,’ a mere nine months into my term of office. In retrospect, it was a very ‘teachable moment,’ and one I hope to have learned from.
I don’t know the Norwegian words for ‘Let’s get real,’ but I tried earnestly to convey in plain English that awarding me the Nobel Peace Prize, at this stage of my presidency, opens the Committee itself to the charge that it dispenses its gold promiscuously, without regard to actual accomplishment.”
***
“This is an award for not being George W. Bush. This is an award for not making the world nervous. This is an award for sharing the basic political sentiments and assumptions of the members of the committee. It is for what Barack Obama may do, not what he has done. He hasn’t done anything.
In one mindless stroke, the committee has rendered the Nobel Peace Prize a laughingstock, perhaps for as long as a generation. And that is an act of true destruction, because it was actually good that the world had a prestigious award for peacemaking…
How to redeem this? That is a hard question, but here is one idea. The president will deliver a big speech in Oslo Dec. 10: white tie and tails, a formal, bound statement. The world, as they say, will be watching. He should deflect the limelight. (Can he?) He should make his subject bigger than himself. (Is there a subject bigger than himself?) He has been accused of traveling through the world on an extended apology tour. That isn’t fair, but the tag is there. How about an unapologetic address, a speech, with the world’s elites leaning forward and listening, about the meaning of America? A speech that shows a grounded and sophisticated love for his country and its great traditions and history. Not a nationalistic speech, not a prideful one, but a loving one.”

Fast forward to 1:53 ROFLMAO! Is he talking about Bono or Obama?
TheBigOldDog on October 10, 2009 at 10:51 PM
The frustrating part about this so called awakening of the elite to Obama is… they will continue to rely on their own warped sense of reality no matter how many times they’re proven so stubbornly wrong. And the guy working in the corner gas station will always be light years ahead of people like Buckley in matters of common sense and yet the average Joe will be laughed off and never acknowledged.

So, why will the American Taxpayer pay his way over to Oslo to accept? This is NOT in anyway having to do with his Office…
Can we make him PAY his OWN way?

The Nobel “Peace” prize became a POS when they awarded it to Yassir Arafat–Palistinian terrorist. The murderer who ordered the torture of our people by slowly shooting them to death–a shot in the foot, ten minutes later one in the ankle, etc. And his “people” threw an old Jewish American in his wheelchair off a cruise ship to drown. And he started the Infatada that murdered thousands of innocent Israelis. And he molested lots of young boys. And he stole millions of dollars of our aid money and put it in French banks for his wife–instead of buying food and medicine for his people with it.
***
The Nobel prize committee “jumped the shark” long ago and are just another bunch of clueless socialists and communists. They recognize President Obama (PBUH) as a fellow traveler and reward his anti-American behavior.

This begs the question, what is the track record of accomplishment of the people who share “the basic political sentiments and assumptions of the members of the committee”? Seems like these are the same people who have basically done very little to nothing to make the world more peaceful. Otherwise, wouldn’t the committee have been able to find someone out there who shares its basic political sentiments and assumptions AND who had actual accomplishments to point to, not just potential accomplishments? By giving it to Obama, they’ve undercut the argument for the effectiveness of their own worldview in pushing forward the goals embodied by the Peace Prize (in theory).
venividivici on October 11, 2009 at 1:47 AM
They didn’t do that in “one mindless stroke”. There’ve been numerous mindless strokes over the past 30 years that have reduced the Nobel prizes to things you’d get out of a cereal box.
ddrintn on October 11, 2009 at 1:53 AM
He can’t do that because he doesn’t love this country. He is and always has been intent on changing this country into something the progressives love, which is NOT America.
The only thing I’d accept coming from this piece of shit’s mouth now is the phrase “death to the fascist progressives” with every intent on making this statement come true.
Only THEN would I do everything I could to help the man achieve the goal.

You know, it’s such a small world. Obama’s good friend is the domestic terrorist, Bill Ayres. Bill Ayres became famous for blowing buildings up and killing people, Nobel became rich, and was able to finance his awards by inventing something that blows up, dynamite.

Answer: America elected him as President.

What is really fun is that the Committee invokes ‘majority of the world’ as one of the reasons to give the prize.
You will have a hard time getting to that majority without: China and India. Two Nations that have had little love lost between them over the decades, and both being attacked by terrorists with China starting to get a real insurgency from the Uighars. And those terrorists are overwhelmingly radical Muslims. Do they really and for true want to see al Qaeda and the Taliban empowered to expand those campaigns? Did the Committee poll both those countries to find out? Now toss in the Nations actively threatened by radical Islam like Indonesia and Philippines, Turkey to a large extent, the ex-Soviet ’stans, Somalia… I’m coming up short on this ‘majority of the world’, save for those who want America to fail and chaos to reign.
China couldn’t handle the Uighars when the Taliban backed them with al Qaeda and India suffered more and nastier attacks when there was a Taliban in power in Afghanistan. Somalia is seeing the Islamic Courts Union, an al Qaeda affiliate, moving back in after we helped the Ethiopians to toss them out. Then there is the old cause worth fighting the Left doesn’t want: Darfur.
If the Peace Prize Committee is serious about peace, they just might want to check out what is being fought against. As it is the ‘majority’ they came up with was the ‘majority’ of the Committee representing the Transnational Progressive Elite. These folks don’t want terrorism quelled… until it comes for them, of course. But by then it will be too late as no one will want to protect them, being dead due to the ‘peace’ they backed.

Gee, I don’t know if anyone has posited this yet, but Chris Buckley and Peggy Noonan, despite their little rehab attempts here, can both go suck pygmy ball sweat.
Buckley/The Daily Beast… Bwahahahahahahaha! My God man, that’s… snort, chortle… Meggy Mac… sniff (wipe tear)… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You had a charmed life career, man! And you chuck it to take a resentful, petulant swipe at Mommy and Daddy? At what age?

Doorgunner on October 11, 2009 at 8:41 AM
On Buckley and Noonan…
First, Rush said everything that Buckley and Noonan said in a more coherent and entertaining way. Second, Rush doesn’t have to backpedal from a position of fawning reverence for Obama’s immaculate blackness (why else would so-called conservatives have stepped on their own tongues like those two did over an uber-lib like Obama?). Of course, they are as entitled to have an opinion as I am to have scorn for it.
SKYFOX on October 11, 2009 at 8:44 AM
The Nobel committee has managed to make the Peace Prize more embarrassing than it was when it was just going to the likes of Yasser Arafat and Al Gore. Given the worldwide ridicule of this award to Obama, I imagine the Nobel committee will award the Peace Prize to a seriously worthy person next year in an attempt to restore a minimal credibility for its future recipients.
Imagine how much it’s going to suck for next year’s recipient. He/she is going to have to go around saying, “No, really, I’ve done stuff. Trust me. I earned this award. Please believe me. I have actually done stuff. Peace-y stuff.”
Rational Thought on October 11, 2009 at 8:50 AM

If the attitude from the Not-So-Nobel Committee is sincere in it’s rewarding peacekeeping efforts and warm fuzzies for the world, Why hasn’t the United Nations been awarded, instead of Obama? It is responsible for the “peaceful” assembly for some of the worlds most vicious terrorists.
But, then again, the Prize has been named after a scientist whom invented an explosive that has caused the destruction of innumerable lives and untold property damage-Which Obama is in process of accomplishing; Perhaps the Nobel Committee is clairvoyant!

Because they are RACISTS!!!
Those great leaders represented on Mt. Rushmore never endured the diffulties of life our dear leader had to endure. Obama went through three grueling months as a state senator, gut-wrenchingly voting present 129 times, before entering the presidential race. NEVER ran any business and somehow owns GM, Chrysler, AIG, most unions, most banks and savings and loans, wants to own US healthcare and has accomplished NOTHING except “just words, just speeches” although, he has a tendency to throw many of his family and friends under the bus when he feels his power is threatened.
Does throwing others under the bus count as an accomplishment for the Nobel Peace Prize?
