Obama on ObamaCare: Can you smell the bipartisan consensus?

posted at 2:00 pm on October 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

If he can convince himself that the Taliban’s no longer an enemy, it figures that he’d think a 34/47 split on ObamaCare in the latest poll (and 42/47 across a spectrum) represents “consensus.” Although, in fairness, this isn’t an assessment based on polls: The chief evidence of Republican support, starting here at around 1:20, comes from the much-despised governor of the fiscal catastrophe known as California, the RINO-turned-independent mayor of New York, 85-year-old Bob Dole, and Bill Frist, whose most recent comment on ObamaCare is that he wouldn’t vote for the Baucus plan. And Frist isn’t the only one whose support for reform is more nuanced than The One’s letting on. Over to you, Tapper:

But as Republican aides in the Senate point out, the devil — as always — is in the details.

On Fox News Channel’s “Your World With Neil Cavuto” on Oct. 9, Dole said Republicans are “not going to buy on to all the excise taxes that Sen. Baucus put on the bill. It’s going to drive insurance companies out of business. We believe in the private sector.”…

Thompson said in a statement with former House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt, D-Mo., “Failure to reach an agreement on health reform this year is not an acceptable option.”

They added: “Clearly, there are some issues that remain troublesome and unresolved in the Senate Finance Committee’s bill, but there are opportunities to debate these issues further as Congress moves in both Houses toward enactment of health reform this session. Differences in approach among committees in the Senate and House should not obscure the fact that there is also substantial common ground and compatible provisions between the Senate Finance Committee bill, the Senate HELP reform bill and H.R. 3200 in the House of Representatives.”

And Schwarzenegger has said, “The House originally proposed fully funding the expansion with federal dollars, but due to cost concerns, members decided to shift a portion of these expansion costs to states. I will be clear on this particular proposal: If Congress thinks the Medicaid expansion is too expensive for the federal government, it is absolutely unaffordable for states. Proposals in the Senate envision passing on more than $8 billion in new costs to California annually – crowding out other priority or constitutionally required state spending and presenting a false choice for all of us. I cannot and will not support federal health care reform proposals that impose billions of dollars in new costs on California each year.”

If only there was some way to foster bipartisanship by incorporating conservative ideas into the reform plan. Too bad conservatives don’t have any ideas anymore, huh?

So still no current Senators. If you can’t even drag Snowe along you know the bill is a turd.

I’m beyond tired of hearing from the Dems that the GOP has no alternatives and that if you oppose the Dems’ version of “reform” you’re either opposed to reform altogether or support the status quo. It’s utter nonsense.

Why isn’t the GOP buying air time and promoting its plan?

Kind of shows the desperation of Obama to make Obamacare appear bipartisan to provide he and his party with political cover. Dole recently said he supports health “reform” the same way that Mitch McConell does and that he would not support the Baucus bill.

Can you smell the bipartisan consensus?

No.

That implies that there was Republican input permitted on ANY of the bills, much less the one currently wending it’s way through the congress. Instead, the president cherrypicks the opinions of some of the most out of touch “Republicans” currently in or out of office and claims bipartisan support.

The disingenuity is STAGGERING! Incidentally, I accuse him of being disingenuous because it terrifies me even more to think he might actually be stupid enough to think that the above would actually constitute support, regardless of the massive negative polling on both sides of the aisle.

For anyone who thought the Copenhagen fiasco or the Nobel insanity was going to serve to slow The Precedent, at all, let this be a lesson to you. This imbecile knows no bounds and will not be stopped. He is on a mission to destroy our nation and he doesn’t care about anything else. He loves to lie, is too stupid to understand the truth most times, anyway, and will push and push until there is nothign left of the US but a smoldering ember.

This is what people get for trying to be reasonable with this impenetrable fool who hates us and who we are. Until people with large megaphones start being explicit about what a total moron this traitor is (and what an absolute traitor he is – without mincing words), this will not even begin to abate, let alone stop. This nation depends on us putting away the affirmative action thought-chains.

Nothing will stop this lunatic. For all of you who think that the tone was ever too harsh, pull your heads out of your arses. The Precedent is what he is. He is the most transparent liar to ever enter the American political scene. He is the worst enemy this naiton has ever faced. The WORST. He is as dumb as a box of rocks and only slides by on his blackness and people’s unwillingness to step anywhere near that issue (though the moron Precedent is quick to use the race-card all the time).

There is very little time left. I hope that our public figures can find some integrity. There are a few who have been leading the way (mostly talk radio, a couple of GOP Congressmen, some others) but even many of them are still treading lightly around the “sensitive” issues that The Precedent hides behind for his defense, and many others are just stuck in near total denial of what is REALLY happening.

The saddest part of this travesty is that there will be a health care bill passed, but only for one reason: Obama needs to pass SOMETHING…. ANYTHING… no matter how outlandish and without regard to the will of the people, and with no thoughts on the impact of this disaster on the young people who aren’t even old enough to vote.

Hey, Obama. How about you repeal your Porkulus, demand that no further funds be disbursed until such time as an independent audit by the CBO be performed to peel back the pork. Put that pork back into the treasury or into the hands of TAXPAYERS (not welfare people) Cut taxes for individuals and small businesses? No? Why not?

Oh, that’s right. The stimulus was payback for your campaign. How silly of me.

Any Republican that signs on to any healthcare bill at this is point is committing political suicide.

That said, according to Newt this thing’s probably a done deal by way of sleight of hand. Through parlimentary machinations that by only the letter of the law, and surely not the intent, the entire package will be assembled after it passes a Senate vote. It will then be entirely rewritten by Baucus, Dodd, Reid and their respective staffs.

Where-upon, in this now unread by any House member or any other Senator, let alone the publoic at large, the bill will be sent to the Precedent for his sgning into law.

As with anything initiated by gov’t, once started it becomes near impossible to remove.

America is fairly well electrified now in this day of our lord 11/10/09, yet the Tennessee Valley Authority is chugging right along promoting the use of electricity along fully funded. Despite newer gov’t programs now in place trying to reduce that use.

We have a federally mandated farm program striving for prarie dog eradication, while it fights against the EPA that is trying to preserve it.

In Maine we still to this day maintain the largest helium bottling and storage operation on earth, it is maintained as a holdover WWII strategic reserve that in case of war we need to float derrigibles in a time of war as observation platforms. Our Keyhole spy satellites would render that point rather moot don’t you think?

None the less, this thing looks to be foisted upon us regardless of it’s detrimental effects. Its a bitter pill to swallow, either we choke it down, or we grab Congress by the throat in 2010 and hope for the best.

Here’s a good article that breaks down the sources of the $829 billion cost of BaucusCare. I recommend it.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/Health-care-tab-to-be-paid-by-taxpayers_-businesses_-seniors-8361542-63800742.html

From the article:

The government would also levy more payroll taxes. Included in a footnote in the CBO report is the revelation that the government expects to raise an extra $83 billion in payroll taxes in the next 10 years thanks to the higher taxable wages they predict employers will offer in place of non-taxable health care benefits.

(emphasis added)

But wait. Aren’t Dems telling us that if we have employer-provided insurance that we’ll keep it? Aren’t the Dems dismissing claims that their bills will prompt employers to drop their coverage, leaving employees to buy it on their own?

This point is NOT being highlighted.

This Baucus outline (there is no bill) is a complete piece of crap. How can voters sit by picking their noses?

We all know that the conservatives have plans for changes that need to be made to health care and health insurance and that the media refuse to acknowledge them, but it would be nice if conservatives would try and forward the argument of ‘reversibility’. THe Washington junta and Traitor-in-Chief are pushing to pass functionally irreversible measures that would turn everything upside down, including our Constitution. The greatest advantages of the conservative ideas for health care (besides the facts that they are Constitutional and will work) is that the conservative plan is totally reversible, without much problem at all. They need to pound this home. The Dems are proposing, what are tantamount to, permanent changes that lock our nation in, while the conservative ideas can be undone at a moment’s notice, with very few side effects. It only makes sense to try the reversible changes, first, to see if they work. Only then, if America is still insane enough and disdainful enough of our Constitution and traditions, they will still be perfectly able to screw us forever with their anti-American health care proposals. But the opposite is not true. Once the treasonous, America-hating dems pass their abortion of a health care/health insurance bill, there will be no going back.

I don’t, for the life of me, understand why conservatives have not pushed this very important point.

When will the treasonous complicit media stop parroting the Liar-in-Chief? This example is just absurd.

It’s gonna take a while; the media is still picking up the Emperor’s ‘clothes’ that he leaves laying around!

I’ve come up with a little ‘test’ for my liberal friends to see how much they know about ObamaCare. I simply remark to them in conversation how shocked I am that healthcare won’t be free! So far, 3 out of 4 allowed as how they thought it was about free healthcare for everyone.

Blithering idiots.

Yep. And they love the ugliness, as it is part of their scorched-earth strategy – just like Saddam’s dumping of 40,000,000 barrels of oil into the gulf and lighting afire nearly every oil well in Kuwait, all as we were allowing him a retreat in one of the most humiliating defeats in human history, just as we see with The Precedent and Washington junta. I’m with Beck on the idea that they have to be totally shut down. Nothing can be allowed to come out of this lunatic Congress. Other wise …

We can only hope that the dire, and utterly insane, nature of the situation will eventually force people to dispense with civility in favor of blunt honesty and survival of the American ideal. I’m watching allah as somewhat of a leading indicator for this. We’ll see.

Something tells me that Kurt Cobain + his drugged up g/f could have had more success than Obama and his smells.
MeatHeadinCA on October 10, 2009 at 2:38 PM

Smells like teen spirit.

I need somebody please explain this.

Why did they give the Nobel Peace Prize to the guy who is dividing America over health care?

The sooner your/my/our hope is realized and a majority of Americans signal their unwillingness to accept what the Chicago Jesus and the Congressthugs are trying to force on us, the better the chance that the nation can be saved without violence and aftereffects that would last for decades.

If, on the other hand, Osama Obama continues to operate unchecked, the history of other third-world, tin-pot dictatorships tells us that a change in course is likely to be bloody.

MrScribbler on October 10, 2009 at 4:50 PM

“New momentum”? What happened to the “old momentum”?

ddrintn on October 10, 2009 at 5:06 PM

His “Republican” support consists of: Frist, Dole, Baker ,Bloomberg (I) and the Terminator . . . get real Obama.

Obama on ObamaCare: Can you smell the bipartisan consensus?

Welllll…I do smell something. Don’t think it’s consensus, tho.

We have always been at war with Eastasia.

Question: Would the Secret Service allow the President to toke before appearing on Television?

Even Dole and Schwarzenegger and Frist are backing off this thing.

I also think that just because someone says the support reform, it does not mean they support the plans offered so far.

You are way too gracious :) It is fascinating to me that his first compulsion is to lie, misconstrue, twist, and manipulate his words when speaking. I can’t imagine that this man has ever had an honest conversation in his lifetime.
