Huckabee to conservatives: Stop whining about Obama’s Nobel
posted at 6:43 pm on October 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
Tactical move to keep Democrats on the defensive here? Or a cheap way to purchase some “moderate” cred with centrists ahead of 2012?
This should play super well with the grassroots Obama-haters he needs in the primaries.
There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama’s nomination, made two weeks into his Presidency, is impossible to justify but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining. The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition.
Mellow out, champ. So impossible to justify is today’s news that it’s managed to accomplish something that only the Iranian uprising in June had achieved thus far this year — it’s brought the blogosphere together. (Except for a certain “true conservative” Obama mega-shill, natch.) In fact, it’s even better that. So impossible to justify is a Nobel for The One that, at this very moment, photoshops mocking his lack of qualifications are viewable at … Time magazine. Yeah. Not Fark or Something Awful, but America’s most famous newsweekly. Even they want in on this action. See now why I think this “award” is such a headache for him?
Exit question: When will the inevitable congratulatory communique from Sarahcuda drop on Facebook? I’m guessing around 11-ish tonight.

Anyway, the Nobel Committee giving Obama the peace prize is like a monkey in a zoo throwing a turd at an unsuspecting tourist. Splat!

Why can’t those Right Wingers leave Our President alone??!!
“I like Barack Obama as much as the next liberal, but this is a farce.” – Perter Beinart
“This is ridiculous — embarrassing, even.” – Ruth Marcus
“Nonetheless, the president seemed humbled by the news and the Norwegian committee packed for its trip to the United States, where it will appear on Dancing with the Stars.” – Richard Cohen
“It is undeserved. It is a bit ridiculous.” – Ezra Klein
“When I saw this morning’s top New York Times headline — “Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize” — I had the same immediate reaction which I’m certain many others had: this was some kind of bizarre Onion gag that got accidentally transposed onto the wrong website, that it was just some sort of strange joke someone was playing.” – Glen Greenwald

Huckster is a nice nick for him. I can’t get Elmer Gantry our of my head when I see him grinnin’ and spinnin’ and spreading his magic around to his followers. Gives me the willies when I happen to catch him on Sat. nights picking up his guitar and pretending to play with the has-beens.
Right now, I don’t want any politician telling me how I ought to feel about Obama’s abominating Nobel peace prize. I can make up my own mind – and frankly, Doctor Zero’s analogy today is the very best out there. Great insight.

This guy is a populist tool. And not a very perceptive populist at that. Even liberals are shaking their collective heads–and some even whining a bit, perhaps for different reasons than the right’s “whining”–about this one.
JoelD on October 9, 2009 at 7:13 PM
Whoa. Rein in the vitriol folks. I happen to think Huck’s point is valid. The burden of proof on this absolute comedy lies squarely on the shoulders of the fools who tout this boob as the greatest man on earth. Does this not tarnish the whole image of Nobel? Why do we even need to say anything? Let the awarding scream its own politically charged irrelevance from the mountaintops of the world.
Nobel peace prize? For 11 days in office?
Seriously. How can you get mad at that? It’s HILARIOUS.

I am not sure that people are whining. I think they’re laughing. And I’m not even sure they’re laughing at Pres. Obama (though it made a lot of people chuckle when he announced he would accept it in humility). I think everyone…not just conservatives…is laughing at the Nobel Committee.
This award is so transparent in its political intent that everyone, on all sides, sees though it. There are those who will try to spin this as deserved (I am convinced that most of these shills will be doing so because it’s their job…they have to spin it). In this case, because it so completely outs Obama and his sychophants, the President is more to be pitied than to be laughed at.
I think that this has been a tremendous, though inadvertent, gift to conservatives by the Nobel Committee.

Don’t like Huckabee – too smooth, too smarmy – and when he comes out with support for something like this and tells fellow Repubs to lay low re criticism; well, that’s just gotta tell you something is amiss, and questions have to be asked.
As for Sarah P – I guess I don’t quite get the dig about her explaining on f/b at 11pm – would that be the same time the White House releases all the stuff it doesn’t want the voting public to see?

What I would like to ask Mr. Huckabee is why didn’t Barack Obama get the Nobel Prize for Chemistry and the Nobel Prize for Physics as he did every bit as much to earn those as he did to earn the Nobel Prize for Peace. If Mr. Huckabee thinks it was proper for Barack Obama to get the Nobel Prize for Peace then he should be denouncing the Nobel Committee for not giving him the prize for Chemistry and Physics too. Maybe it is a racist thing. Maybe the committee and Mr. Huckabee don’t think someone who is any Black can do chemistry or physics. I think Mr. Huckabee should reflect on that.
