Huckabee to conservatives: Stop whining about Obama’s Nobel

posted at 6:43 pm on October 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

Tactical move to keep Democrats on the defensive here? Or a cheap way to purchase some “moderate” cred with centrists ahead of 2012?

This should play super well with the grassroots Obama-haters he needs in the primaries.

There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama’s nomination, made two weeks into his Presidency, is impossible to justify but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining. The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition.

Mellow out, champ. So impossible to justify is today’s news that it’s managed to accomplish something that only the Iranian uprising in June had achieved thus far this year — it’s brought the blogosphere together. (Except for a certain “true conservative” Obama mega-shill, natch.) In fact, it’s even better that. So impossible to justify is a Nobel for The One that, at this very moment, photoshops mocking his lack of qualifications are viewable at … Time magazine. Yeah. Not Fark or Something Awful, but America’s most famous newsweekly. Even they want in on this action. See now why I think this “award” is such a headache for him?

Exit question: When will the inevitable congratulatory communique from Sarahcuda drop on Facebook? I’m guessing around 11-ish tonight.

Whoa. Rein in the vitriol folks. I happen to think Huck’s point is valid. The burden of proof on this absolute comedy lies squarely on the shoulders of the fools who tout this boob as the greatest man on earth. Does this not tarnish the whole image of Nobel? Why do we even need to say anything? Let the awarding scream its own politically charged irrelevance from the mountaintops of the world.

Nobel peace prize? For 11 days in office?

Seriously. How can you get mad at that? It’s HILARIOUS.

Sure, it’s hilarious. But Obama’s as big a boob for not refusing the thing. This is Milli Vanilli winning a Grammy.

Sarah should invite Obama up to Alaska to throw rocks at the Russians—something closer to the reality than a peace prize for a well greased teleprompter.

I don’t think conservatives are whining. If anything, they’re celebrating the fact that their criticism of Obama as all-talk-no-substance has been proven conclusively true.

If Huck wins the nomination, a second look at barack obama. Better to have the democrat socialist own America’s implosion, than a Republican socialist owning it again.

I really don’t need advice on whining from a guy who stayed in the primaries weeks beyond his sell-by date, whining all the time about Romney.
Besides, it’s not whining, Huck – it’s side-splitting laughter.

ronsfi on October 9, 2009 at 7:19 PM

There was a lot more than a hint of scandal when he was Governor. Getting a Police Chief fired for looking into his son’s hanging of a dog. I think Huckabee was investigated dozens of times for corruption/bribe taking.

MB4 on October 9, 2009 at 7:40 PM

Whining? Who’s whining?

This is a LMAO moment, not something to whine about.

Over at Volokh.com, David Bernstein started a top 10 list for why Barry won. It’s hilarious.

The sucessful Beer Summit made that list. Also, from the comments, “He was the 10th caller.”

EconomicNeocon on October 9, 2009 at 7:42 PM

In Arkansas, Mr. Huckabee was investigated by the state ethics committee at least 14 times. Most of the complaints centered on what appears to be a serial disregard for government rules about gifts and outside financial compensation. He reported $112,000 worth of gifts in one year alone, nearly double his $67,000 salary.

Five of the 14 investigations resulted in admonishments: Two for failing to report gifts (one was later overturned), the other three for some $80,000 that Mr. Huckabee and his wife received but failed to initially report. One of these admonishments involved a $23,500 payment to Mr. Huckabee from an opaque organization called Action America that he helped found in 1994 while lieutenant governor, and that was designed to coordinate his speeches and supplement his income.

Mr. Huckabee caused an uproar when he used a $60,000 account intended to maintain the governor’s mansion for personal expenses, including restaurant meals, dry cleaning and boat supplies. He also faced a lawsuit over his assertion that $70,000 worth of furniture donated to the mansion was his to keep. Sprinkled among all this are complaints about the misuse of state planes and campaign funds, mistakes on financial disclosure forms, and fights over documents related to ethics investigations.

Any one of these episodes individually may appear penny ante, but they add up to a disturbing pattern. People I’ve spoken with who worked with Mr. Huckabee in Arkansas dispute the idea that he is “corrupt.” They instead ascribe his ethical mishaps to a “blind spot” rooted in his beginnings as a Baptist minister and a Southern culture of gift-giving; they suggest he never made the mental transition to public office.

Some will also argue Mr. Huckabee is no more ethically challenged than Mr. Giuliani, who is getting pounded with questions about Judith Nathan’s security detail and Giuliani Partner clients. The difference is that Hizzoner is a celebrity whose past bones were long ago picked clean by the media crows. Even the Nathan flap is an extension of news that made the rounds five years ago.

The obscure governor from Arkansas is, in contrast, a deep sea for media diving. Most recent have been stories about his pardons and commutations, as well as the news that R.J. Reynolds contributed to Action America. Mr. Huckabee–who now wants a national smoking ban in public places–responded that he never knew he accepted tobacco money, which has inspired a former adviser to claim Mr. Huckabee is being “less than truthful.” What’s next?

Well, the ‘gay’ description might not be justified, BUT the Huckster HAS had ‘scandal’ in his career as the govenor of Arkansas. He is a hypocritical PHONEY – in my opinion – who is filled with hatred AND envy for others (i.e. – Mitt Romney). This is an ex preacher who quit his ‘day job’ to become, what? A politician – we know ALL politicians are crooked, and now he’s looking for more fame, glory AND money. VERY Christian of him, I’d say (sarcasim!).

You could transorm in to the greatest politician ever, and have the media carry you all the way, but there will never…. EVER, be a “President Huckabee”. I’m sorry, but there just won’t be.

profitsbeard on October 9, 2009 at 9:05 PM

That statement confirms what I’ve felt about Huckabee since the primaries: he will say whatever is expedient for the moment in order to score some points with the media. Should the media again elect our candidate for 2012 and it’s this poser, he will screw conservatives just as swiftly as McCain did (and can’t seem to stop doing).

Rush says it all the time: the media will let us know who are candidate is by who they try to destroy. And they don’t seem to mind old Huck….

varnson on October 9, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Al-Ozarka:

The problem with Huckabee is that he says whatever he thinks sounds best at any particular moment, to whoever he’s talking to. There is no consistency and no apparent guiding principles outside of the social issues (possibly because he may not be well versed on economics, etc.).

He pretty much gets away with it now because the press has zero interest in making him look bad. But if you think the press did a 180 on McCain between the primary and the general, you ain’t seen nothing yet. They will bring up ever contradictory or flat out stupid thing he’s ever said, and make him look like Pat Robertson’s snake-handlin’ cousin Billy Ray.

Also, I’m not much of a social con but I usually support social cons, because they are typically the most conservative all around and don’t give a damn about being loved by liberals. But Huckabee is so insecure he fails this test miserably.

ronsfi on October 9, 2009 at 8:12 PM

Do you even know what those complaints were FOR?

Let me help you:

Being photographed holding a fish.

Being “bribed” with fresh baked cookies.

Being interviewed. (There were 4 of these filed for various interviews)

For failing to issue a “Juneteeth” proclamation.

Juneteenth (June the 19th) is a celebrations blacks have in TEXAS. It celebrates the day the blacks learned they were free after the Civil War! This complaint was filed by a “James Brown Impersonator” (who once actually sued James Brown!) Even better, the guy holds a grudge because a LONG time ago he was hitting on a very married, and very pregnant Sarah Palin, and she turned him down. (Sarah be raaaaaaacist!)

Let’s see, where was I? Oh yeah:

One complaint was for wearing a jacket. (in sub zero weather)

Another one was for a “bribe” she got for visiting Evansville, Indiana. An autographed hockey stick!

In fact, every single time she left the state multiple “ethics complaints” were filed! It’s part of the reason she stepped down.

Oh, and my favorite:

Linda Kellen Biegel and her coven, being the constitutional scholars they are, proclaimed that it was unconstitutional for Sarah to speak to the troops! HER TROOPS!

As Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska National Guard, Sarah went to Kosovo this June to visit the troops. According to the brain trust this was unconstitutional, as well.

They base this on an obscure Supreme Court ruling that has NOTHING to do with the situation.

Anyhow, I can see that like most people, you confuse the filing of a complaint, with the fact that someone did something wrong.

I doubt any politician in modern history has had the sort of rectal exam Sarah Palin has had, and there was no THERE there.

Simply put NO ONE has been as well vetted as Sarah Palin.

On the other hand, it looks like Huckabee may have some serious issues to address.

DTogo on October 9, 2009 at 9:28 PM

I’m no Huck fan but he does have a point here. Conservative don’t need to do anything to make this Nobel Prize a joke-it is all by itself. I also agree that he’s way too well liked by the media, he’s soft on immigration and the climate change folly so he might be the man in 2012 which would be a huge mistake for this country and the republican party.

Alfresco on October 9, 2009 at 9:31 PM

Oh bulls**t. I’m not whining. Quite the contrary, I think it’s just about the funniest thing that’s happened since Chicago Jesus was elected. He can’t justify it – his posse can’t justify it – and even his BFF’s in the media can’t figure out how justify it.
I like Huckabee, person-wise. He seems like a regular guy, not super-intelligent or elitist. However, I don’t particularly like his politics. Much too “moderate”, which to me means too eager to appease the far left in the interest of “bi-partisanship”. He makes a brave noise right now, because conservative America is disgusted with the Emperor O. It’s just that, though. Noise.

Never mind that they’d already been married 30 years at this point. Of course Huck will get indignant and tell you he and his wife had absolutely nothing to do with setting it up, but conventional wisdom here in Arkansas says otherwise — as does Huck’s lengthy track record of ethics violations. Most believe it was a ham-handed attempt at skirting state law respecting limits on gifts.

Your syntax matches perfectly. Your tone…everything about your style. I know Max Brantley to be the very type to infiltrate a blog like Hot-Air (which is THE leading blog for conservatism online)and laugh while sowing discord.

My speculation stands as stated.

Al-Ozarka on October 10, 2009 at 9:48 AM

Oh…BTW, MB4…Brantley, the extreme leftist, loathes Mike Huckabee as much as you do.

Your profiles match.

Al-Ozarka on October 10, 2009 at 9:50 AM

I never did like The Huckster. I Blame him for McLame being the Republican nomine instead of someone who could have won, and I have always thought he had just a little bit too much of a smarmy kind ooze about him.

I’m toast on conservatives wagging their fingers at other conservatives.

Enough of the nanny approach.

AnninCA on October 10, 2009 at 11:08 AM

There’s no rule that Socialists have to join the Democratic Party exclusively.

Yeah, they’re everywhere and it is a vast left wing conspiracy.

Unless someone can show me how conservatism has advanced at the expense of socialism over the last 80 years, or how and when and where socialism has retreated?

Show me the true conservatives teaching in universities, running Hollywood/TV studios, writing for major newspapers/magazines, in political positions, etc…and no, I won’t accept the George F. Will types who are actually moderate liberals willing to be at least fair to us.

Huckabee: Desperately seeking relevance and acceptance by the media. Didn’t trust him before. Even less now.

SKYFOX on October 10, 2009 at 12:45 PM

Google “Huckabee” and “scandal.”

Hits?

You Betcha!
I took the challenge and you are correct

Exit question: When will the inevitable congratulatory communique from Sarahcuda drop on Facebook? I’m guessing around 11-ish tonight.

Oh, how I wish I had posted my thought when reading this yesterday. It was “She won’t”.

And she’ hasn’t.

KittyLowrey on October 10, 2009 at 1:40 PM

The Huckster just ISN’T. THAT. SMART.

seejanemom on October 10, 2009 at 4:51 PM

Hahahahaha

Sarah Palin has posted again on Facebook. It’s a link to Kudlow’s NRO piece.

No, it was in not “inevitable” that she would be congratulating Obama on his unwarranted prize.

KittyLowrey on October 10, 2009 at 6:40 PM

Mike Huckabee is one of the reasons that we been stuck with Neville Hugo Obama. He is a nanny state conservative, which is to say, he is not a conservative?

Modern Publicus on October 9, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Exactly. He’s much closer to being a neoconservative.

popularpeoplesfront on October 10, 2009 at 11:16 PM

The Huckster strikes back.

… and Obama’s head is getting bigger and bigger everytime the Huckster speaks.

Kudos to the Preaching Politician.

C’mon let’s all go celebrate and play some basketball. WTF?

johnnyU on October 11, 2009 at 4:59 AM

NoLeftTurn,

As far as your “example” of Mike Huckabee when he left office as Gov. and the “Wedding Gifts”. The following is the truth of that story:

When he was leaving office, he had bought a new house. Their friends wanted to give them housewarming presents. Since there is no “Housewarming registry”, they made a “Wedding Registry”.

It’s that simple, folks, and look at what it “looked like” in the ethics info online. That’s why you can’t believe the info online because you don’t know what really happened, just like the “Wedding Registry” lies.

The Democrats in Arkansas were vicious (just like lots of you fellow “Republicans”. Give Mike Huckabee the same courtesy that you give Sarah Palin. Would you like it if people were saying the same crap about Sarah (even though you can explain it) that you are saying about Mike Huckabee?

He did not conspire with McCain in VA. The truth is:

After the first round when Romney nor Huckabee gained 50+1 votes to win the caucus, Ron Paul came to Mike Huckabee and said he would tell his supporters to back Huckabee if he would give Paul the delegates. Huckabee agreed. McCain’s supporters would automatically support Huckabee because they didn’t want Romney to get them. There was no back door deal with McCain. Yet you all believe it because #1 you want to believe it, and #2 the Rombots conveniently can blame Mike Huckabee for Romney’s loss (which is absolutely ridiculous with Romney spending $70-80M dollars to Mike Huckabee’s $5M for the whole campaign).

Do you see how unbelievably vicious you are when you know what really happened? I believe that the other things can be explained too, but Mike Huckabee didn’t have the money to make ads explaining is side.

You are giving Sarah a break, give Mike Huckabee a break too.

If you go on YouTube and watch his show from Saturday night you will see how Mike made the Nobel prize ridiculous for Obama because they gave it to Obama on what he “would do” in the future. Mike Huckabee made lots of points about how other people should have gotten the prize from what the would do in the future. It was funny and made the point without being negative or sarcastic. That’s what he meant in his post about Republicans. Don’t give the Dems. the opportunity to make us look bad because, unfortunately, the people in America are listening and believe the lies the Dems post in the paper about the Republicans. Mike Huckabee was trying to make sure the Dems couldn’t say negative things about the Republicans this time. He was trying to help our side.

Conservatives to Huckster Huckleberry: STFU

bill30097 on October 11, 2009 at 3:18 PM

It’s HILARIOUS.

somewhatconcerned on October 9, 2009 at 7:13 PM

Yes, exactly. What specific thing did Huck say that was wrong here? He’s saying it’s so ridiculous that we don’t have to make fun of it — everyone else will do it for us, and be harder to the Presidential apologists to explain away.
