Did he seek help from Hillary’s contacts to get a passage through Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea, to Turkmenistan so that the US could open up an independent supply line?

No.

We still need a second supply line as we have suffered from having the current ones squeezed by the joint al Qaeda, Talibe, LeT, HeI affiliates, and others who have become the Shadow Army. With 90% of our troops being supplied from Pakistan’s seaports and only 10% by air supply in the low lift area we call Afghanistan, that means we ae ceding the battlefield to an unstable Nation under extreme threat and those forces threatening them. I am glad Pakistan is fighting back, but I wish they would stop funding these groups as it is counter-productive to their long term survival as a Nation.

And have we gotten Pakistan’s ISI to stop that funding?

No.

That has been my criticism of Bush and now Obama and its the same damned criticism as neither of these Presidents is willing to address the logistical nightmare we are in. With an independent supply line we can change the Rules of Engagement with impunity. Obama talked a lot about going after the enemy as they retreated into Pakistan. To do that you need a second supply line so we can do that and tell Pakistan that we are doing the job they can’t do.

That takes strategic understanding of what makes war run, how to ensure supply lines and then doing what is necessary to win. Iraq was damned easy in comparison to Afghanistan, and we are not fighting by modern logistics nor fighting in a way that could win via a smaller footprint and ancient logistics as Alexander the Great did in the exact, same place. He won with less than 10,000 troops: his empire didn’t die in Afghanistan it was cemented there and was the high point as going to India proved to be too much to bite, chew and swallow with 10,000 troops. Just to kill the ‘Empires die in Afghanistan’ trope, Alexander’s died with him after being victorious in the region and winning. We do not learn from him and refuse to fight with our understanding of modern logistics. That is not a recipe for success.

Same outlook for both Presidents, same criticism for both as both have not done what it takes to create the platform for victory. And if Obama did the things necessary to win he would get my applause and support in those venues.

If Obama decides to follow McChrystal’s advice he’ll have the support of just 36 percent of Democrats — and 73 percent of Republicans. Remember that the next time a liberal comes crying to you about the GOP reflexively opposing everything The One does.

Lefties are completely able to justify this. Obama, in their mind, is being misled and thinks a troop increase will help Afghan women etc. But the Republicans are just doing it to kill more brown people and/or secure an oil pipeline.

Oh wait, he’s a politician. Forgot about that.

I found it kind of interesting that these were the top two headlines when I checked the headlines on Yahoo news. Gee, it’s a good thing we’re not going to be focusing on the Taliban anymore.

Great stuff if you don’t mind drifting off unexpectedly or find yourself talking into a phone with no one on the other end.
