Quote of the day
posted at 10:34 pm on October 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
“This, ultimately, is about death.
About preventing it. About fighting it. About resisting it. About grabbing hold of anything and everything to forestall it and postpone it, even though we know that the force will overcome us all – always will, always has. Health care is, at its core, about improving the odds of life in its struggle against death. Of extending that game which we will all lose, each and every one of us unto eternity, extending it another year or month or second…
It is your skin. Literally. And it is in the hands of people, insurance companies, who can still make money by betting against your good health. There is only one comfort here and it is cold indeed. Profit while you can, insurers. Sickness and death wait not just for your customer. They also wait for you. And they are double-parked. The doctor who treats you and the pharmacist who makes you pay through your nose are not your enemies in this. It proves they are as much victims as you and I are. And the time has come to realign the battle here, so that it is not just us versus the entire medical and health care establishment, it is us, and the doctors, and the nurses, and the pharmacists, and maybe even some of the hospitals, against the real enemy: The insurance companies… the Insurance companies who are right now at war against America!…
Death is the issue! How can we not be unified against death?”

There are now three certainties in life: Death, Taxes and the lameness of Keith Olbermann.
Hellrider on October 7, 2009 at 11:07 PM
Oh, and Keith Olbermann obviously has no clue what he’s talking about. The majority of the health care industry has nothing to do with death.
I have shoulder and back problems, I have vitamin D deficiency, I have a dislocated jaw. These are more or less common health problems. Which of them have to do with death? None.
Most of what Olbermann says in this special comment, is therefore, wrong. Death has very little to do with this debate on health care reform.
With that said, the United States needs a public insurance option for those who cannot get private insurance, for whatever reason. Everyone needs to have a safety net to fall back on, without having to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket if something were to happen to them.
Private health insurance should and needs to continue to be available, anything else would be against the American spirit. A healthy co-existence of a public and private insurance systems is the only fair and valid solution.

It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with death. And if it did, Democrats have ALWAYS been on the side of death. What is has to do with is who has ultimate control over your LIFE, you or the government. Democrats, as always, choose government.

Ranting against the insurance industries, as if they are the enemies of health care, is like ranting against the grocery store, as if it is the enemy of nutrition. “They make profits by withholding Pop-Tarts from those who can’t pay!”

Olby got one right here. The only reason we romanticize death is because we can’t do anything about it. But if we were starting from scratch, and someone proposed,
“Hey, how about we all experience steady declines in our mental and physical abilities, until such time as were drooling idiots who can be beaten up by 12 year any old, and then, to cap it all off, we each just pop out of existence!”
…we wouldn’t think it was a good idea. And mankind has devoted much art and philosophy and religion to evade or cover up or pretty up the stark fact and aging and death really, really sucks.
All hail the Great Olby for getting this one right.

When you routinely and ignorantly campaigning against technologies that would have prevented deaths from E. Coli why should anyone believe you’re against death.

Keith Olbermann= A dorky high schooler who never got over being stuffed into lockers and thus never matured mentally.
therightwinger on October 7, 2009 at 11:52 PM
Olbermann is right.
I am British and, as many of you know, we have had a national health service since the 1940′s.
Because of this, no British people ever die. Despite the lengthy queues for operations and the unavailability of essential new medicines, the NHS just keeps us living in perpetual youth.
As Keith will tell you, this immortality is well worth the mandatory tax pay to fund it and it’s well worth private medicine being a fringe luxury that only executives can afford. Anyway, being on private medical plans, they’ll eventually die, so ha ha ha.

Now we know why GE is looking to sell NBC Universal…
d1carter on October 7, 2009 at 11:58 PM
Yep. It’s impossible to live with libs. Conservatives give states the rights to decide if they want socialized health care, how the state population wants to approach social issues. We allow libs to try and form their utopian nightmares in states. We let them do the stupid sh!t they want to do, adn they have. That is freedom. But libs never want to allow any alternatives to their ideas of how we should each lead our lives. Liberals demand that everything come from a national government (since the states they got their wishes in have all gone dramatically belly-up) and dictates to everyone. With liberals, it’s forced conversion to their political religion. No dissent will be tolerated, since libs aren’t good debaters, and their ideas are impossible to justify in any logical manner.

What the hell? The basic premise he makes about betting is completely backwards.
The insurance companies (Health and Life) are betting against sickness and death (respectively). They win when we pay premiums that they never have to pay out on. The insured “win” when we get sick or die, and get to collect money.
The sicker we get, the more the insurance companies lose.
Stupid POS.

Here is how I envision a civil war beginning.
1.A destructive health care bill, Cap and Trade and a version of the Fairness Doctrine pass.
2.The Democrats retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, with suspicion of significant voter fraud.
3.The economy continues to deteriorate, and unemployment continues to rise.
4.A protest is put down violently.
