Quote of the day

posted at 10:34 pm on October 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

“This, ultimately, is about death.

About preventing it. About fighting it. About resisting it. About grabbing hold of anything and everything to forestall it and postpone it, even though we know that the force will overcome us all – always will, always has. Health care is, at its core, about improving the odds of life in its struggle against death. Of extending that game which we will all lose, each and every one of us unto eternity, extending it another year or month or second…

It is your skin. Literally. And it is in the hands of people, insurance companies, who can still make money by betting against your good health. There is only one comfort here and it is cold indeed. Profit while you can, insurers. Sickness and death wait not just for your customer. They also wait for you. And they are double-parked. The doctor who treats you and the pharmacist who makes you pay through your nose are not your enemies in this. It proves they are as much victims as you and I are. And the time has come to realign the battle here, so that it is not just us versus the entire medical and health care establishment, it is us, and the doctors, and the nurses, and the pharmacists, and maybe even some of the hospitals, against the real enemy: The insurance companies… the Insurance companies who are right now at war against America!…

Death is the issue! How can we not be unified against death?

Poor guy. It must be the whole Letterman thing; he doesn’t know how to explain the Palin wig!

And the Number One Reason to Accept That Job Offer from David Letterman:

1. After the sex, he lets you keep the Palin wig

What I don’t understand is how can Olbermann be doing the Sunday Night Football gig? I can’t watch any segment that he’s on, and I suspect at least 30% of the potential audience feels the same way — it would be more but with his small MSNBC audience most don’t even know he HAS a show. Why would NBC chose to limit its audience by having this kool-aid drinker on a FOOTBALL show? Is that their way of saying: In Your Face?

Christian Conservative on October 8, 2009 at 1:18 AM

Here is how I envision a civil war beginning.

1.A destructive health care bill, Cap and Trade and a version of the Fairness Doctrine pass.
2.The Democrats retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, with suspicion of significant voter fraud.
3.The economy continues to deteriorate, and unemployment continues to rise.
4.A protest is put down violently.

justltl on October 8, 2009 at 12:20 AM

Not bad.

Definitely agree that an imploding USD/economy will be part of it.

The real trigger for rebellion will be when gas prices skyrocket with food and Obama tries to restrict speech and take away guns or stop the internet.

It’s more like saying ‘screw you taxpayer!’ when GE receives their bailout.

Chaz706 on October 8, 2009 at 1:22 AM

The fact that stupidity like this makes it on the air offends me.

Didn’t he begin this by complaining about the care his dad received? Isn’t his dad on Medicare? “How do they get out of the hospital?” What a joke! Medicare has to employ social workers to help patients fight early discharge. Why are they discharged early? Because Medicare doesn’t pay.

What is more important than Healthcare? Food. Does that mean that the government needs to take over all the farms and grocery stores?

And if the government is supposed the help us live, then shouldn’t abortion be banned?

Is the government less bureaucratic and more responsive than an insurance company? If your insurance company messes up you go get another insurance company. When all that is left is the government to run healthcare where do we go when they mess up? No where, that’s where.

That’s when death is all that is left to us. Hurry up and save the taxpayers some money. Die already.

petunia on October 8, 2009 at 2:06 AM

Since when do health insurance companies make profits”betting against your good health”? Everyone on the planet knows that insurance companies make money from betting that you’ll be healthier than expected instead of being sick.

Criswell: [narrating] … The grief from his wife’s death became greater and greater agony. The home they had so long shared became a tomb, a sweet memory of her joyous living. The sky to which he had once looked was now only a covering for her dead body. The ever-beautiful flowers she had planted with her own hands became nothing more than the lost roses of her cheeks. Confused by his great loss, the old man left that home… never to return again!

Health care is, at its core, about improving the odds of life in its struggle against death. Of extending that game which we will all lose, each and every one of us unto eternity, extending it another year or month or second…

Witness, if you will, the negativity of this Olberman statement, particularly the piece about the “game which we will all lose.”

It is the language of the left, in full splendor. Negative to its core.

And, he conveniently ignores the quality of life aspect of healthcare, which is arguably more important. This has to do with the plethora of procedures and medicines that deal with everyday maladies and annoyances.

These things seldom have anything to do with extending one’s years but everything to do with making those years enjoyable or at least not miserable.

I’ve been playing a little game with Olbergoebbels’ show for awhile now. While watching O’Reilly, I’ll flip during a commercial and see how long it takes for him to say, “Palin,Bush,or O’Reilly”, flipping back to Bill’s show as soon as Olbergoebbels says any of the three names. So far I’ve never made it past the eight second mark. If it wasn’t for Palin, who’s now just a former Governor, Bush, now just a former President, or Bill, who kicks his ass so bad in the ratings it’s not funny anymore, this tool has no show..The moonbats who get their “news” from him alone are in for a shock when Obama loses the next election, or as I predict he’ll be frog marched out of office long before them….

Olbergoebbels is a deranged human…something..Maybe the missing link….

adamsmith on October 8, 2009 at 10:34 AM

Suddenly it all makes sense. The libs were offended by Sarah Palin’s “death panel” comments because they wanted to paint the insurance companies as the death panels. Unfortunately, the experience of other nations with socialized medicine shows that Palin’s comments were far closer to reality.

This whole tirade was just bizarre. His dad should have had Cadillac care. Remember all those millions they pay Olby for some reason? He could have flown in specialists and round the clock nurses. Rule no.1-Dont use a personal tragic story about not being able to get the best possible care when you are a millionaire. Takes the wind out of your arguement.
I am glad the libs are now worried about unnecessary death, though. I guess that means no more aborted babies. Right?

Seriously, wouldn’t it be far more effective and unobtrusive to simply prevent insurance companies from terminating coverage within a certain window of having accepted an application? That would solve so many of these “nasty insurance company” stories. For those who can’t get coverage in the first place due to preexisting conditions, each state should have a high-risk pool that the fed gov’t helps out with. Pretty much everyone agrees that the poor and sick should get care even if they can’t afford it, so let’s tailor the cure to the poor and the sick! Why is this so hard to understand?

I had the ‘good fortune’ to hear all of Keith’s ‘Special Comment’ (my boss insists on watching this crap at work–I’m sure there is some kind of labor law being violated here)

I can say that I forced myself to try to retain an open mind when they announced the topic of the show despite my utter detest for Olberman. I can honestly say that I got about 2 minutes into it before he started spouting off ludicrous facts and figures compiled by the most biased sources ever and knew it was going to be typical Olberman tripe.

The whole meme with his dad was ludicrous too. He talked about how he spent all he could to help his dad (not mentioning that he had to spend extra because Medicare won’t cover it all) He of course, pushed for a single payer system…either not knowing, or too ignorant to know, that he wouldn’t be able to spend lavishly in a system like that.

It really is just a losing battle for him and his kind and they need to get serious about enacting actual reforms that people actually want (tort reform, increased access to more companies across state lines, plans that don’t have minimum coverage standards, i.e. allowing us to have plans that only cover the catastrophic events) not ones that HE and his DRONES think people want.
