Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on October 7, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Jim Geraghty points out this lesson in the danger of counting one’s chickens before they hatch. Here’s Barack Obama proclaiming that the US was “on the path to recovery” a month ago:

Since then, we found that:

Maybe it would be better to quit predicting the beginning of the recovery. Obama doesn’t seem to be any better at that than he does at predicting how the stimulus will impact unemployment.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Obama: Clueless

Jeff from WI on October 7, 2009 at 8:08 AM

Frankly, I think it’s likely true we really are on the path to recovery. It’s just the POTUS and friends seem to be taking us on a helluva detour.

Here is a man without a moral compass–one who will say or do anything to advance his public image, irrespective of the truth of those words or actions. He is the embodiment of truthiness.

Crusader Rabbit on October 7, 2009 at 8:12 AM

Obama believes he is some kind of supernatural being, and that because he says a thing it will come to pass. The IOC rejection of Chicago must have come as one he11 of a surprise to him… Reality is really really going to hurt this narcissistic fool…

I’m not so sure we can truthfully call him a liar.

He appears to be utterly clueless about how our economy actually works, and thus may actually believe the drivel he puts forth.

For him, it may be the truth….

Naaah, he lies!!

When Obama and Biden lose their jobs, we’ll be on the road to recovery, not before.

There is no way any business is going to hire or expand while the Democrats control all three branches (with the exception of major Democrat donors that Congress will shovel taxpayer dollars to in a pay-off scheme, but those are phony jobs).

Let’s see. McCain was ridiculed by the media last year during the campaign for saying that “the fundamentals of the economy are strong,” one time. Obama and his underlings repeatedly claim the economy is improving, while each month brings worse and worse data. Yet only now are we seeing the beginning of teh most mild criticism of Obama in the traditional media (e.g. Bob Herbert’s NYT column in the headlines).

I just had to move from Michigan for the sake of employment. Governor Jennifer Granholm has spent her entire time in office (just about 7 years at this point) blaming her predecessor for all her incompetence and corruption. I fully expect the filthy lying coward in the White House to spend the rest of his life finding others to blame for his own clear inadequacies.

I’m willing to see if the job market will recover over the next year. But my concern is that it cannot. There’s not a solid foundation anymore.

joedoe on October 7, 2009 at 9:11 AM

People need to tell the govt to (as Galt would say) get the hell out of my way. We won’t have recovery until Obambi calls his Marxist dogs off of small business.

We are being ruled by imbeciles.

joedoe on October 7, 2009 at 9:11 AM

The President can’t vote present. The filthy lying coward is simply ignoring the situation. Troops are dying but that doesn’t matter so long as he can fuel up Air Force One and head off to Europe for parties and fun.

highhopes on October 7, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Reality is really really going to hurt this narcissistic fool…

I challenge that statement. Extreme hubris typically prefers to march to it’s death rather than admit error. The story related by survivors who spent the final days of WW2 in the bunker with Hitler, are that he was issuing orders to counter-attack to non-existent units. Air Wings and Panzer units that had been destroyed were getting orders to strike the Allies and no one around him dared tell Hitler the truth.

There was an excellent film entitled “Blind Spot”, which was an interview with Hitler’s personal secretary. The film was a German production available with English sub-titles. If you’ve not seen it, I recommend it highly.

oldleprechaun on October 7, 2009 at 9:34 AM

I’m not so sure that the filthy lying coward is that committed to anything. When things blow up in the rat bastard’s face, like the Olympics bid, he shifts blame and changes the story. Hence- Chicago didn’t get the Olympics because of Bush but they really didn’t want them anyway.

Barack, open your window and listen to that roar in the distance.

Yoop on October 7, 2009 at 10:17 AM

I’ll tell you what.
That “filthy liar” label is effective.
I can’t think about Obama now without “filthy liar in the White House” popping into my head.

justltl on October 7, 2009 at 10:34 AM

I’m gonna try to not think of that phrase.
Let’s try a clip from a recent article.

“Congressional leaders left a rare bipartisan meeting with President Obama the filthy liar in the White House on Tuesday divided over what strategy the administration should adopt to fight an increasingly unpopular war in Afghanistan and how quickly it must do so to protect U.S. forces already on the ground.”

See?

Can’t do it.

justltl on October 7, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Let me try again. This time harder.

“Congressional leaders left a rare bipartisan meeting with President Obama the rat bastard in the White House on Tuesday divided over what strategy the administration should adopt to fight an increasingly unpopular war in Afghanistan and how quickly it must do so to protect U.S. forces already on the ground.”

OK, that’s progress.

jukin on October 7, 2009 at 11:50 AM

Predicting the beginning of the recovery. Health care takeover done by August. Cash for clunkers will give auto manufacturers a shot in the arm. Foreign nations will love us now. The IOC will give Chicago the Olympics out of deference to him. Etc., etc.
The Precedent needs to fire his psychic…or hire one.

SKYFOX on October 7, 2009 at 11:54 AM

You know at times like this, the President needs to roll up his sleeves, get down to business, and……give another speech.

I don’t think he has speechified this problem enough. Time to fire up the TOTUS and let P-BO do what he does best: recite lines off of mirrored glass.

There will be no recovery at all until the idiots in DC stop screwing around with health care and cap and tax; no business..big OR small..is going to add to their payroll if they don’t know whether or not they’re going to have to pay out the ass to the government for anything going forward.

It’s that simple. And thanks for voting for this idiot if you did.

HAnthonyWayne on October 7, 2009 at 1:31 PM

DSchoen on October 7, 2009 at 2:11 PM

Sickening.

RedNewEnglander on October 7, 2009 at 2:20 PM

Obama isn’t clueless. He’s ideological.

He knows better. He’s orchestrating this, and figures we evil middle classers deserve all this destruction. I think his predictions of recovery are nothing more than a way of jollying us along until his destruction of the American economy and his installation of Socialism is complete.

I hope to God that people turn out in droves in 2010. If they don’t, we’re done.

He is doing what any good Marxist in his position would do.

Computers? Since when and where are we producing computers? I have been building computers for the past two decades and can not remember using a part that was manufactured in the United States. We assemble computers here from parts that are made in other countries; parts that benefit their economies. As for last month, stores that sell computers were stuggling to stay open due to a drastic loss in sales. It has not been any better this month, perhaps worse as those that will buy a computer, are holding off until the new Windows 7 is offered. Maybe they were looking at the ads of one of the main assemblers and thought we actually made the parts that go into our computers. Maybe they did know we didn’t make the parts, but felt that it sounded like something that the masses would be able to relate to. When your BS’ing a lie or deception is as good as anything else.
