Code Pink now suddenly pro-occupation in Afghanistan
posted at 7:06 pm on October 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Weasel Zippers, an Obama accomplishment that SNL forgot: He can make “principled” anti-war activists roll over like the good little puppies they are. If the rumors are true about Biden spearheading a movement inside the administration to scale back in Afghanistan, then we’ve actually reached the point where Code Pink is more hawkish than the vice president of the United States.
Two fun questions to ponder as you read. One: How are the boldfaced comments below any different from what Iraqi government ministers said for years about a U.S. pullout there? And two: What would the recent sober, restrained media coverage of whether to escalate in Afghanistan have looked like under President McCain?
Though Afghans have their grievances against the international troops’ presence, chief among them civilian casualties, many fear an abrupt departure would create a dangerous security vacuum to be filled by predatory and rapacious militias. Many women, primary victims of such groups in the past, are adamant that international troops stay until a sufficient number of local forces are trained and the rule of law established.
During their weeklong visit here, in which they met with government officials, politicians, ministers, women activists, and civil society groups, the small team of Code Pink members had hoped to gather evidence to bolster their call for US troop withdrawal within two years, and capitalize on growing anxiety back home about the war.
While the group hasn’t dropped its call for a pullout, the visit convinced them that setting a deadline isn’t in Afghanistan’s interests, say Ms. Benjamin and fellow cofounder Jodie Evans.
“We would leave with the same parameters of an exit strategy but we might perhaps be more flexible about a timeline,” says Benjamin. “That’s where we have opened ourselves, being here, to some other possibilities. We have been feeling a sense of fear of the people of the return of the Taliban. So many people are saying that, ‘If the US troops left the country, would collapse. We’d go into civil war.’ A palpable sense of fear that is making us start to reconsider that.”
These are the same people who had to be dragged out of Petraeus’s hearing before Congress in 2006 for screaming about the “lies” he was telling about counterinsurgency. Tangentially related exit question: The Journal’s got a nice piece today about how the entire West Wing is into a book called “Lessons in Disaster” describing how Lyndon Johnson was “marched into an escalating war by a military viewing the conflict too narrowly to see the perils ahead.” How come our lord and savior didn’t think to read that before he spent two years on the trail grandstanding about “the necessary war”?

Just about three years ago I set out on Obama’s Afghanistan road,
Seekin’ my fame and glory, lookin’ to turn a Mullah’s Hemroid into a pot of gold.
Well, things got bad, and things got worse, I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! lord, stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.
Flew in on a big plane, I hope I’ll be in one piece flyin out when I go.
I was just passin’ through, must now be yet another 2 tours or more.
Running out of time and patience, looks like they took more of my friends.
Oh ! lord, Im stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.
The Hope and Change man in the White House said yet again I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost his connection, he ran out of words to say.
I came into Kabul, a one year stand, looks like the plans fell through again
Oh ! lord, stuck in Obama’s Afghanistan again.
Mmmm…
If I only had a woman, for evry Obama tour Ive done.
And evry time Ive had to fight while Obama sat back home playing politics and power drunk.

Feminism hasn’t been about women since the 70s. It’s been about socialism and another group demanding a ‘gimme’.
Where has NOW been about clitoroctomies all these years? Instead, they’ve been making up tales about ‘glass ceilings’.
NOW and and all other feminazi groups have been whining about things that don’t exist in America, while ignoring all else going on around a world uglier than what America has offered for a long time.
Feminists are cowards, who get from fearful men (liberal males on both sides of the political aisle) their wants of the moment.
Liberals in general, and feminists in particular, don’t take on the hardest of battles. They don’t complain about the abuses done to little girls in Moslem countries, or how female children of the lower castes in India are used for sex.
I’d like to see a Michael Moore do a film about how little kids are raped in Moslem and Hindu countries, and for him to try stopping that shit. But he won’t, of course. NOW won’t do it, either, despite the ‘love’ of both of them.
America is so much worse, though it’s the place that lets them spread lies and make millions with impunity.
In those other places, those cowards would be shot for revealing genuine truth, and that’s why they won’t go there.

It’s funny (in a tragic sort of way) how two of America’s most prominent female political groups, NOW and Code Pink, are so quick to roll over for the right guy. NOW has had nothing coherent to say about Clinton, Polanski or Letterman, and Code Pink has suddenly developed a taste for gunpowder.

I wasn’t aware that we had “invaded countries” without the Democrats’ permission.
And I wasn’t aware we had “tortured” anybody. At least not to the same extent as those people in NYC on 9/11 who had to chose between burning to death or jumping a thousand feet to the street below. Without knowing who had forced them into that last life decision.

Right, reason, and consistency aren’t things liberals keep the same way reasonable people retain their core values.
If your parents taught you not to lie, and you trusted them, you’ll be an honest person when you grow up.
Libs, however, somehow got an idea that truth and lies are the same thing, so that lies to ‘advance the cause’ are just as good as the truth; there’s no difference. Long as the end is noble, everything between is good. Lies, too.
That’s how libs are, the only way they can be.

New SNL skit:
Weekend Update anchor: And now here with an editorial about Afghanistan, the founder of Code Pink, Medea Benjamin.
“Medea Benjamin” proceeds to read an editorial on Weekend Update ranting about war is bad and bring the troops home etc. Just as she has built up her full ire and rage…
An Afghani woman slides into the seat next to Medea and explains in a very moving way about the plight of women under the taliban and insurgents. She speaks about how vital it is that American troops remain in Afghanistan to protect the women from harm until a stable government is established.
Medea: [looks stunned by the tale the woman has told. She turns to the camera and suddenly breaks into a large, sheepish smile] Never mind.
[Applause and laughter]
Anchor: Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow.

If Medea Benjamin likes anything, it can then be reasonably concluded that there’s a “defeat America” goal being endorsed by Benjamin/Code Pink.
Benjamin’s likely all gungho suddenly on Afghanistan because she says: “the presence of U.S. troops is the best recruitment tool Al Queada has.”
She supports anything that will place the U.S. at a disadvantage if not ruin more lives of more people in service to the U.S.
I’d no more regard her opinion than I would embrace a rattle snake.

She’s trying to rationalize “nation building” money for, likely, the Clinton Foundation. Benjamin’s just trying to sell a dollar-siphoning operation or the continuance of one.
Most of the “let’s raise people out of poverty” lines are those that use the poor; they “help people” here and there but overall, it’s not about what their sales pitch is (“let’s raise people out of poverty”), it’s about themselves and various spinoffs using other people’s money.
Benjamin is just doing what she does and always has done: emotional theatre for purposes of negating the U.S.A. while siphoning off the dollars.
Afghanistan is going to be the world’s heroin producer tomorrow, the day after that, next decade, next century, and as long as people buy their product. We can chop it down, burn it down, try to “educate Afghanis” to grow, say, beans and corn instead, but while no one’s looking, the Afghanis will again plant crops of opiate poppies because they make more money at far less effort in doing so.
Meanwhile, fools like Medea Benjamin will make apperances and talk about “raising people out of poverty” and get the Clinton Foundation to pay for a mud-hut here and there and a well and some books and fly in prescription medications from donated lots, but in the end, it’s not going to change the course for Afghanis. They’ve been living as they do for centuries and likely will continue to while Benjamin gets her fifteen minutes.

Code Pink has become just one more symptom of the problem that Obama has. He dares not go forward and dares not go back. Worse, like the 2nd law, he can’t even stand still.
Here’s the real problem. The left must take over America. This is their best chance in almost 80 years. A war is historically fatal to “reform”. The A’stan must end as poorly and as soon as possible.
The generals, McChrystal and Petrayus and Mullen are agreed and have written recommendations. McChrystal spoke to the Institute for Strategic Studies in London. It is on their site. They are calling this hand.
More, NATO, India, P’stan, China, and Saudi have a vote, too. Because of war, even al Qieda gets a vote. China and Saudi get to vote twice or more because of debit. China and Saudis need America to succeed or their holdings are worthless. Guess which way these “foreigners” will go?
BHO has a problem. Even with Reid corrupting the Senate (yes it is all of a piece), Obama must fail big time no matter what his choice on A’stan. He can only choose how he fails. The media cannot protect him. “The whole world is watching.” has come 180 for the socialist. Presidents cannot vote present.

“Sensing a mob she could seize control of, Medea Benjamin positioned herself in front of a large group of children and rallied them to join her in a completely purposeless sit-down strike, which lasted all of ten minutes, and had no stated goals.”
…
(Signs on Code Pink tent read: “Support the Iraqi Resistance!” and “Support U.S. deserters and mutineers!”)
“Supporting the deserters and mutineers seems to be a running theme. As was, in this case, supporting the enemy.
In another time and place, such sentiments would be considered treason, but hey — this is Berkeley! Treason is cool!”
Lourdes on October 7, 2009 at 8:44 PM
“Medea Benjamin — drawn to anti-authoritarian mob scenes like a moth to a flame — consulted with her fellow Code Pinkers as how to best take advantage of the situation.”
…
“Jodie Evans and Medea Benjamin took time out from their demagoguery to grace the media with interviews.”
…
“At one point, a crew of Harley-riding Vietnam vets decided to take a foray into enemy territory, and scout out the Code Pink side of the street. First they made a stop at the World Can’t Wait booth, and seemed genuinely bewildered by the communist slogans and America-bashing. Like, ‘Are these guys serious?’
Then they ventured into the Code Pink tent city, where they encountered the Code Pink spokesclown.
One of them looked around as if to say, ‘Help me out here, folks! Am I dreaming?’
Medea Benjamin and her bodyguard (or whatever she is) came over to monitor the situation. Medea then appointed herself as tour guide for the vets, I guess to make sure they didn’t hang around too long.
She led them on a quick tour of the left-wing side of the street — quite an odd sight to see! But the vets were respectful, and had no intention of causing a fracas. Just curious.
Speaking of odd couples: Here, one of the vets has a chat with a Code Pink lady (notice her slippers) who has crossed over into vet territory…”
…
“Well, whaddya know — Richard Becker, a communist firebrand and one of the top organizers for ANSWER, showed up. Inspecting the troops, I imagine.”
“Code Pink founder Jodie Evans must have given a hundred interviews — I rarely saw her without a microphone in the vicinity.”
