This reminds me of when the levee collapsed in New Orleans. Before they shut down the pumps, they were pumping the flood water back into the canal which had the break. The cost of medical devices is rising so we tax them and use the money to finance health insurance to pay for them. Why not tax all health care to pay for it?

I re-read Ed's post this morning and you are absolutely correct. Insulin pumps class II and cost more than $100 which makes then subject to the tax. With mammograms getting hit with the tax too, I told my wife that she may want to consider going to this guy, after all.

Ed, I suspect guys will be as upset with the anti-prostate cancer PSA test tax as I am about the mammogram tax. These are all a bad idea, especially if the government is paying for it all in the end.

I suspect that is where the CBO may have missed a beat or two in its analysis. It’s not tax income to the government if the government has to pay the tax itself. (It’s a rather thinly disguised trick to drive private insurance out of the market place.)

This will cause the medical device industry to move entirely out of this country, but this administration really does not care. More jobs lost, more companies that pay taxes lost…. so after all of this who do you think is going to pay for all the big government programs? most likely the two guys standing holding the american flag that are left.

Folk, this is a disaster. Please, hear me out. This will absolutely kill thousands and thousands of jobs. Mine included. I work for the medical device industry and I am telling you that our CEO has already contacted us and let us know, in no uncertain terms, that this will mean job cuts, and deep ones at that.
Do any of you think for one minute that these companies will absorb the cost of the surtaxes that are being proposed on this industry? It will mean a higher cost for the consumer, job cuts within the industry, and an end to cutting edge technology. I cannot emphasize enough how devastating this will be for innovation and medical advances in this country. How willing will the government be to pay for the necessary equipment to keep premature children alive? How willing will the government be to pay for defibrillators for patients who are having arrhythmias?
