Glenn Beck explodes at his media critics: Don’t you have more important things to do?

posted at 8:35 pm on October 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

Why, er, no. No, they don’t.

Two clips for you on this slow news night, one from this afternoon’s GB and the other from this morning’s surprisingly charming interview with Imus. The common thread, if you’re looking for one, is what Beck feels his obligations are as a parent. And as a child, I guess: As hard as it is to believe, sniffing around his mother’s decades-old suicide has been something of a hobby for left-wing media lately. Let’s hope there’s room in their civility scrapbook for that one.

Found some background info on crap6, seems his real name is “Wilbur”…

December 1, 2001 issue

Tidy-Bowl Man Found
Missing for over fifteen years, and presumed dead, the Tidy Bowl man has finally been found and he his alive.

“It was pretty rough paddling at first” cites Wilbert Fresco. “But once I found the lagoon I was in paradise”.

Fresco, who was known to the world for many years as the “Tidy Bowl Man” paddled a rowboat in toilets nationwide, had been accidentally flushed when shooting a commercial in 1984. After an unsuccessful six month manhunt he was presumed dead.

Thanks to Dave Bowels of the Tucson Water Works, who happened across Fresco while inspecting a valve in sewage lagoon #2, for rescuing the missing seaman. “I always wondered why lagoon #2 was so much cleaner than the others” commented Bowels. “Now I know, and I’m glad to see the Tidy Bowl man again”.

Fresco plans to return to his normal duty of cleaning and disinfecting residential toilet bowls as soon as his rowboat is updated to current OSHA requirements, now required due to the dangers of modern “power flush” toilet designs. Look for Wilbert in your bowl this spring. — Staff

Neat trick.

Naturally I was referring to Beck’s frothing at the mouth about people in the media debating his affect on the Republican party, not to the business about his mother (which I haven’t even heard about, and I’m sure isn’t from an MSM news outlet). But your contrived outrage in an attempt to establish moral superiority is duly noted.

TheBigOldDog on October 5, 2009 at 10:20 PM

In fairness to Beck, the leftist machine is designed to find your weakness.

They started off making fun of the man himself, which is fine, even if odd behavior from the self proclaimed civilty police.

Then they tried to start a rumor that he raped and killed a woman.

Now, they are trying to dig up dirt in his dead mother – which if there is anything to find will soon be headlines on CNN/MSNBC and the rest.

If there is nothing there, or Beck ignores it, his kids will be next or maybe the wife. There will be stalkers, and threats of violence.

I certainly hope Beck takes it and it makes him focus even harder on taking down members of the Left…but I can understand how it can break a man.

Interesting isn’t it that we do not to the same to the likes of Rather or Olbermann?

Glen said weeks ago that he knew they are coming for him and he was not happy about it, but he knew it and was ready for it. Anyone who has had a suicide in their family, as I have, understands the incomprehensible hurt it leaves and to have them pick at that scab is probably more than he can bear quietly.

Yellow journalists is close. I would have called them red or maybe pink. CNN fact checking SNL for BO was it for me. The mainstream media has nothing left, pardon the pun, to offer a free society.

Glen Beck has never pretended to be something he’s not. For that, he has my respect. We need far more citizen journalists and far fewer “educated” journalists. Luckily, as ratings and circulation go, the educated ones will soon have no where to hang their hats.

Why should we be surprised by any of this? Isn’t the ad hominem attack strategy clearly laid out in the Left’s Bible, i.e. Rules for Radicals? What’s great about Beck is that he has no secrets. There is nothing he will not admit, address or confront. It’s hard to scare someone like that. You may piss him off, of course, but that’s because he still slips up from time to time and expects the Left to play by the rules of basic human decency. Don’t worry, I have a feeling those expectations are falling by the wayside. I have NEVER been a fan of Glenn Beck, but baby, the more they go after him, the more I am beginning to like him. (Well, and all that Acorn stuff was pretty cool, too)

Jeff from WI on October 6, 2009 at 7:53 AM

Theodore Roosevelt’s autobiography, Chapter X, excerpt from a longer paragraph recounting his time as President:

For the reasons I have already given in my chapter on the Governorship of New York, the Republican party, which in the days of Abraham Lincoln was founded as the radical progressive party of the Nation, had been obliged during the last decade of the nineteenth century to uphold the interests of popular government against a foolish and illjudged mock-radicalism. It remained the Nationalist as against the particularist or State’s rights party, and in so far it remained absolutely sound; for little permanent good can be done by any party which worships the State’s rights fetish or which fails to regard the State, like the county or the municipality, as merely a convenient unit for local self-government, while in all National matters, of importance to the whole people, the Nation is to be supreme over State, county, and town alike. But the State’s rights fetish, although still effectively used at certain times by both courts and Congress to block needed National legislation directed against the huge corporations or in the interests of workingmen, was not a prime issue at the time of which I speak. In 1896, 1898, and 1900 the campaigns were waged on two great moral issues: (1) the imperative need of a sound and honest currency; (2) the need, after 1898, of meeting in manful and straightforward fashion the extraterritorial problems arising from the Spanish War. On these great moral issues the Republican party was right, and the men who were opposed to it, and who claimed to be the radicals, and their allies among the sentimentalists, were utterly and hopelessly wrong. This had, regrettably but perhaps inevitably, tended to throw the party into the hands not merely of the conservatives but of the reactionaries; of men who, sometimes for personal and improper reasons, but more often with entire sincerity and uprightness of purpose, distrusted anything that was progressive and dreaded radicalism. These men still from force of habit applauded what Lincoln had done in the way of radical dealing with the abuses of his day; but they did not apply the spirit in which Lincoln worked to the abuses of their own day. Both houses of Congress were controlled by these men. Their leaders in the Senate were Messrs. Aldrich and Hale. The Speaker of the House when I became President was Mr. Henderson, but in a little over a year he was succeeded by Mr. Cannon, who, although widely differing from Senator Aldrich in matters of detail, represented the same type of public sentiment. There were many points on which I agreed with Mr. Cannon and Mr. Aldrich, and some points on which I agreed with Mr. Hale. I made a resolute effort to get on with all three and with their followers, and I have no question that they made an equally resolute effort to get on with me. We succeeded in working together, although with increasing friction, for some years, I pushing forward and they hanging back. Gradually, however, I was forced to abandon the effort to persuade them to come my way, and then I achieved results only by appealing over the heads of the Senate and House leaders to the people, who were the masters of both of us. I continued in this way to get results until almost the close of my term; and the Republican party became once more the progressive and indeed the fairly radical progressive party of the Nation.

Teddy Roosevelt considered himself to be no conservative but a Progressivist and a radical one. It is far more than just this section, but seen from his earliest times to the end of the autobiography. To say that he wasn’t one goes against the very fiber of what TR told he was. Without the tools to analyze monopolies he was a ‘trust buster’, and yet modern economic analysis puts the length of a non-State supported monopoly at 15 years. IBM’s mainframe business ran a bit over that, as has MicroSoft’s PC O/S business, yet the first is gone and the second is giving way to internet devices, cellphones and a plethora of other devices that must interoperate beyond an operating system thus cutting into revenue for MS. Preventing businesses from buying up competitors is a good thing, yes, but they can’t do that indefinitely as the markets of any good or product has resources to reach to new venues and it is only when an oligopoly comes into being to set prices across a swath of firms that we must worry as no firm that grows large can remain nimble or to quickly adjust to changing markets. The Progressives demonized single monopolists, yet do nothing against oligopolies and then seek monopsonist route for government as single buyer, and none of these lead to greater liberty for us all.

Glenn Beck can be criticized on many grounds, but he has accurately reported on Teddy Roosevelt’s own writings, speeches and publications. There is much that I do admire about TR, he was truly a great man. He forgot that the power is in the office, not the man, and that once accrued to government such power is nearly impossible to remove without a major upheaval in society. I refuse to vote for Progressives in either party… and in supporting ‘sound fiscal policy’ that supports Progressive ends of government, that now includes much of the Republican party. A conservative party would be dismantling the government machine, not trying to run it ‘well’. And I have no trust in government to ‘help’ the common man, just treat all equally… and it no longer does that and hasn’t for decades.

ajacksonian on October 6, 2009 at 7:56 AM

Agenda driven journalism at best. Beck twists facts and figures to adhere to his insane daily rantings on why Obama is a secret, terrorist, Muslim, Socialist, Communist who is working on destroying the world.

Decider on October 5, 2009 at 11:50 PM

what facts did Beck get wrong on Van Jones, the NEA propaganda push from the White House, and on the Democrat criminal racket known as ACORN (and as we’re now seeing, the SEIU as well)?

Just the facts, please. You can leave the stuff about suggesting he caused his mother to commit suicide for classier places like Media Matters and the blithering paranoid idiocy of the Ed Schultz show.

The facts. Where was he wrong? Go.

Good Lt on October 6, 2009 at 8:16 AM

back to the topic of Glenn Beck: i know of several very intelligent men, all conservatives of different stripes, who rearrange their afternoons to watch Beck. they criticize many of Beck’s antics as sophomoric & plain stupid; some days they aren’t interested in the topic; but they generally come away from the show with a “wow, he just won’t let up” comment.

beck is not just for moms. dads are watching, too.

kelley in virginia on October 6, 2009 at 8:21 AM

Whoa, Glenn Beck is upset with the media and has a hissy fit? Man, I never saw that coming!

Proud Rino on October 6, 2009 at 8:26 AM

All games. Beck should stick to what he does best and just let the others rave on.

jeanie on October 6, 2009 at 8:44 AM

Why, er, no. No, they WE don’t.

There Allah-fify.

ExTex on October 6, 2009 at 8:55 AM

I missed the show, someone is digging into his mother’s suicide?

These people are despicable.

You know, there are just some places that you don’t go. That would be one of them. I don’t care who he is, whether you like him or hate him, whether you agree with him or despise him. As a human being there is a line that you do not cross. (If this has to be explained to you, please go get a conscience transplant.)

These are the same people who are still not convinced about who Trig Palin’s mother is. These are the same people who glorify pedophiles. Re-opening someone else’s emotional scar is nothing to them.

It occurred to me while reading this thread, that the soccer moms put Clinton into office. I think that the ‘had enough of this crap moms’ are going to take the Dems out.

Just a hunch.

GeeWhiz on October 6, 2009 at 1:42 AM

Yes, we are. I’m chomping at the bit to go to this Million Moms March that Glenn has been bringing up.

Just a side note–we were at the supermarket on Sunday and there was a table set out, I think for the VFW and they were taking donations. My girls and I thanked the servicemen for their service and for what they had done for our country. One of the elder servicemen looked at me and with a very depressed look in his eye said that he was worried if what they had fought for was going to continue, that he was worried about the direction our country was going in. I looked straight back at him and with as determined a look as I could muster told him “Don’t worry. Nothing’s going to happen to this country. We won’t let it happen.” He didn’t look convinced, so I said again “Don’t worry. We’re going to take care of it.”

I don’t know if he believed me, but we cannot have these servicemen who’ve fought and are fighting for this country wondering if their sacrifice was worth anything. We’ve got to let them know we’ve got their backs.

More importantly, your name rearranged spells “Humps Cat Herd.”

I don’t care who you are, that’s just funny right there. :)

This is not funny. Please stop assimilating the people who choose to be uninformed group thinkers and people with special needs.

My son has special needs. He is not choosing to be uninformed. That makes him just that much smarter, in my books.

Glenn I love ya, but you’re wasting your time appealing to the humanity of the Left.
They have none.
David2.0 on October 5, 2009

By appealing to a non-existent humanity he is showing the moderates and independents in his audience the low character of the left so they can decide for themselves what their own values are by comparison. I don’t think this is a waste of time. I think it’s educational. Many people are still of the opinion that the left has a “good heart”. They need to be shown otherwise.

SKYFOX on October 6, 2009 at 9:16 AM

Glenn is being Palinized. But just like Sarah I think he’s going to land on his feet.

Christian Conservative on October 5, 2009 at 11:12 PM

Palin-ized, Joe the Plumber-ized, Bush-ized, Newt Gingrich-ized, Reagan-ized . . . the left has been attacking for years.

Glenn Beck is doing the job of the Republican Party. He is the only one utilizing that kind of oversight, no Congressman or Senator has the cajones to expose the corruption and graft of the government. I’m glad to be a Libertarian like Beck. The man is truly a patriot in the tradition of the Founding Fathers. God Bless and keep going Glenn. By the way, the last book, “Arguing with Idiots” is awesome.

Funny the left keeps claiming Barack Obama’s life is in danger because so many americans are against his policies (read Racist) but it is this man whose life is truly in danger.

He better be danged careful ALL THE TIME.

I know, right? Who ever heard of someone trying to kill the President?

And also, I mean, a prominent black leader? Getting assassinated? When has that ever happened before in this country?

Death threats against the president are a lot more serious than death threats against a TV show host.

And the number of death threats against Obama dwarf the number of death threats against Beck.

It’s quite baffling that the right doesn’t seem to care that embracing a dooshbag like Beck hurts the party. So hey – keep watching and loving him.

I’ve found a good trick to eliminate the trolls. Just respond with the phrase: We love Sarah Palin. They just can’t take it. Unhinges them every time. I’ve even starting signing off with it, you know kind of a bug spray tactic.

We love Sarah Palin.

Psst – the left loves that you love Palin. It ensures your defeat and points out your obliviousness to the actual part of the US population you must woo in 2012. High fiving other members of the choir accomplishes nothing whatsoever.

It’s you who doesn’t get it.

Dave Rywall on October 6, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Love to see the trolls here, like Drywall and Proud Hind-o, who care not at all that their fellow travellers, their ideological heros, think that the best possible tactic for political discourse is to accuse people they disagree with as rapists, murderers, causing suicides (if it was–maybe Beck Killlled his mother!). Of course, why would a little rape hurt? Polanski, Letterman, Brian David Mitchell, Ted Kennedy– all prove that a little compulsory sex is a-ok if you are a liberal.

This last year has pretty clearly seperated the wheat from the chaff. Liberals as a whole think that political violence is okay–as long as it is from them. They see nothing wrong with the politics of personal destruction–as long as it is from them.

Assassinate a conservative? Dave Rywall has no problems. But threats against Obama? Mythical Right wing terror groups? Dude, almost EVERY SINGLE BIT of political violence in this country in the last 100 years has been driven by the left wing. Your side. YOU OWN VIOLENCE. From Kennedy’s assasination by a communist, to the anti-vietnam war, to the violence against the tea parties, to anti-globalism violence–it’s all your side. And you embrace and love Kennedy, a murderer. He’s your hero. Byrd, a KKK guy–a leftist hero. You guys venerate Bill Ayers and the Weathermen. You see nothing wrong with the calls to kill Bush, the plays by leftists. You guys are insane. Rape a kid? If you are a leftist, go for it! Kill a staffer in a car? Be feted as a hero!
