Video: Mary Katharine Ham closes the Defending the American Dream Summit

posted at 11:00 am on October 4, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Mary Katharine Ham gave the closing address to the Defending the American Dream Summit, hosted by Americans for Prosperity Foundation in Washington DC this week, by reminding people who they really are. Mary Katharine told the activists, many of whom have only recently become politically active at all, that the Left wants to hound them out of the public square by calling them extremists, un-American, and racists. “What you do is honorable, what you do is responsible — and do not let anyone tell you any different.” It’s a great finale to a terrific event.

She made a lot of good points, maybe this organizing is not best left to the progressives.

tim c on October 4, 2009 at 11:16 AM

Us conservatives have all the good looking sensible women!

joedoe on October 4, 2009 at 11:16 AM

Strap on a bullet belt and an M16 and lets roll. This country needs to get on the stick. We need jobs and need them NOW.

What to go Mary Katharine, another classy conservative.

Dasher on October 4, 2009 at 12:01 PM

If mama ain’t happy, ain’t noboby happy. Getting conservative women to organize and rally to the cause is the best thing the GOP could do. TheAlamos, you are correct: The 21st century is the time for conservative women to move to the forefront and help shape policy. RNC, can you hear us? We need more to join our cause.

Ed, What was her intro music? “Obama on your shoulder”?

mad saint jack on October 4, 2009 at 12:17 PM

She’s entertaining to watch. Bet she’s fun as a running buddy. Her expressions make me think she’s usually chuckling on the inside.

Was the crowd drunk? Why were they so freakin’ noisy?

SouthernGent on October 4, 2009 at 11:28 AM

Is this crowd drunk? Yeah, she’s a hottie, but she’s also much more. A little respect, please.

I “heart” me some MKH!

AP should aim a little higher and pine for that little gal!

conservnut on October 4, 2009 at 12:45 PM

Why yes, we conservative women are attractive. We’re also intelligent, that’s why we’re conservative :)

beachgirlusa on October 4, 2009 at 12:58 PM

While it is easy to be distracted by MKH’s obvious physical beauty, let us not be as shallow as those on the left. Watch, but more importantly listen to everything she says, and then realize she is very, very smart. Then you can drop your jaw and slobber. Works every time!

beachgirlusa on October 4, 2009 at 12:58 PM

We conservative Alpha-American guys are, of course, only interested in women of intelligence, regardless of looks.

Right! -_*

TXUS on October 4, 2009 at 1:19 PM

More like MKH, please.

mikeyboss on October 4, 2009 at 3:04 PM

One of the few reasons to watch Bill O’Reilly anymore is her weekly segment.

She’s a LOT like Sarah Palin. The looks may draw you in, if you’re a guy, but you stay for the substance!

MKH is one sharp gal. American will be in very good hands with this younger generation of intelligent common sense conservatives at the helm.

Conservative women are indeed the future of America. They are the real feminists, and the real leaders of a movement.

gary4205 on October 4, 2009 at 3:05 PM

MKH is the face that conservatism needs to have on tv 24/7. Brains and beauty. What’s not to like?

trapeze on October 4, 2009 at 3:23 PM

MKH is a helluva writer, and I don’t think she’s even cracked 30 yet. She’s also very media-savvy. You’ll see her regularly on Fox News, and she can be heard weekly on the Hugh Hewitt radio show. Add in her blogging at the Weekly Standard site, plus Facebook & Twitter, and she’s a Jill-of-all-trades.

Imagine what kind of impact she’ll have in twenty years.

Now if only she’d write a book …

OhioCoastie on October 4, 2009 at 4:59 PM

Thank you MKH. Well said.

Yakko77 on October 4, 2009 at 5:25 PM

She is awesome.

AZfederalist on October 4, 2009 at 5:26 PM

A new voting blog is emerging, the pissed off moms. Thank goodness. They are becoming the voice of reason right now. Watch them single handedly flip the seats next year in Congress.

At this point, I even think the Senate is attainable. There are 19 seats each open for both parties (not open, but on the ballot). Things are going to be interesting, particularly is the Senate does the sneaky plan of attaching the health care bill to another bill as an amendment to avoid a real cloture vote.

karenhasfreedom on October 4, 2009 at 5:38 PM

ACK, meant to type, New Voting BLOCK!!!!!!!!!! Sorry.

karenhasfreedom on October 4, 2009 at 5:57 PM

Ed, What was her intro music? “Obama on your shoulder”?

mad saint jack on October 4, 2009 at 12:17 PM

They showed the “Obama on Your Shoulder” video before she was introduced.

I “heart” me some MKH!

AP should aim a little higher and pine for that little gal!

conservnut on October 4, 2009 at 12:45 PM

I think AP aiming for MKH is QUITE A BIT HIGHER than Meggie M.

Sapwolf on October 4, 2009 at 7:16 PM

MKH is wonderful! Women have always played important roles in major changes in our country, some good (womens voting rights), some not so good (temperance). If morality makes a comeback, it will be women who will be in the front lines.

docdave on October 4, 2009 at 8:04 PM

Ed, wanted to thank you for posting this. MK’s mom and I couldn’t make it this weekend. Wish we’d been able to, though, so we could meet you. Again, thanks.

rivlax on October 4, 2009 at 8:21 PM

MKH is a class act. The Left would be wise to take notes.

Oh how I would love to see her serve competently to maximum effect in a Palin administration.. *dreamy sigh*

itzWicks on October 4, 2009 at 9:03 PM

classy conservative & she’s hot

FloridaMike on October 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Her speech was good, but not as good as the folks at the March on Washington. And few people are as good as the Boss at this type of speech:

I have watched the civility police in the newsrooms that I’ve worked and strategists in Washington on both sides of the aisle counsel me and folks like you to tone it down to conduct ourselves in dulcet tones. We cannot afford moderation in times like this — when the business of protecting our home life from meddling intrusion, protecting our homeland from foreign invasion, and protecting our commerce and our livelihoods from reckless government restriction. This is not the time to bend our spines or bow our heads. The founding fathers did not intend for us to politely implore the masters of government for freedom like Oliver Twist begging Mr. Bumble to fill his meager bowl with more gruel: “Please sir, I want some more.” Only extreme yes, extreme – extremely, extremely extreme – vigilance, forceful, rabblerousing, aggressive, unyielding vigilance can safeguard our inalienable rights. And in practicing this extremism we have nothing, nothing to apologize for …ever.

It has been awhile since Mary Katharine Ham has been seen, but she always knows when to make an appearance. With impeccable timing she makes a difference.

Way to go MKH.
