Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on October 4, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Which Obamateurism this week will celebrate its victory? Probably not with a trip to Copenhagen, that’s for sure. Maybe they’d prefer to go to India, which would at least take them a little closer to Gen. Stanley McChrystal than Barack Obama usually gets. Of course, one assumes that they’d pick the right direction first …
Previous “winners”:
- Taxes, definitions, auto insurance, and Merriam-Webster dictionaries
- Throwing Poland under the bus on missile defense on 70th anniversary of Soviet invasion
- Obama warns of “partisan scare tactics,” warns “people will die” if ObamaCare stalls
- Obama doesn’t check to see if schools in session for his national speech
- Getting all wee-wee’d up
- The “public option” is just like the Post Office!
- We’re going to listen to other people’s ideas, except that people who disagree should shut up
- Snitch Central for ObamaCare dissenters
- Rushing legislation bad in 2004, essential in 2009
- Obama opines on Gates arrest without “having all the facts”
- Obama salutes the Ghana flag
- Obama jokes about Alaska sale with Russians
- Obama uses union and DNC plants at health-care town hall
- Obama plants a question on Iran with HuffPo
- Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”
- Flashing his soles to the camera while talking to Netanyahu
- “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
- “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
- Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
- Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
- Torture probe flip-flop
- Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
- Austrian is a language?
- Obama bows to the Saudi king
- 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

John Edwards would not only have won the Olympics, he would have made Rio De Janeiro pay for it.

“I’m not interested in victory.” And then off he goes to Copenhagen to try to win.
Another leader said ‘I’m not interested in Victory’ – Olmert, in Israel. This was several years before he started off the war in Lebanon which he had no intention of winning.

I swear, you just can’t make this stuff up. When Ed first started this series, I honestly thought there couldn’t possibly be enough screw-ups, even by The One, to keep it going.
If anything, there’s just too much!
Meh, gotta go with the Olympics debacle, only because it’s the one thing the POTUS shouldn’t be doing in the first place…it’s driving the Left crazy saying GOPers are happy…and “the world” finally gave Obama the snub he’s deserved for a while now, bring his arrogant self back down to Earth.

I know there is a chain of command and that Mr. Obama surely speaks to Sec. Gates on a regular basis but the ratio between the man in charge of American military lives and a union bigwig is too much for me.

Has to be the Olympics. The failure to keep in communication with McChrystal is the more egregious screw-up long-term, but Obama and all his supporters went into the IOC meetings in Copenhagen with the same self assurance that Chicgo had the 2016 Games won as the New England Patriot fans who already had their 19-0 caps and T-shirts bought before Super Bowl XLII was even played.
Since nobody had a camera trained on the president or his advisers on Air Force One when the verdict came down, the looks on the faces of the crowd in Chicago will have to substitute for the stunned realization that Barack Obama is President, and The World Still Doesn’t Love Us.

I had to go with the fact that the Commander And Chief has only spoken to McChrystal once in 70 days. While talking to the SEIU head weekly.
That speaks volumes about who ZER-O sees as the true enemy.

Obama’s amateur mistakes aren’t funny anymore. Iran will have the bomb. Russia is rising. China owns everything. The federal deficit is out of control. Unemployment, if one counts those who have given up or taken part time work, is over 15%. The disasters are piling up, and their repercussions will be felt for years, decades.

For those who would say that ZER-O talks to Gates and follows the “chain of command” I point to a quote from a NYT piece in 2007.
Of course they try to slam Bush but the point is that he talked personally with his top General at least once per week. Verses once in 2 and a half months for the one.
I guess if you are all seeing and omnipotent you already know it all anyway.
conservnut on October 4, 2009 at 9:40 AM
This week had a months worth for sure. If I hadn’t lived thru the Jimmah Carter administration I’d never believe a US President could be this bad. But yes… it can be so. And Barry is proving it on a monumental scale each and every day.
Most administrations would have caught on by now that the advisors doing the advising are morons and would have kicked at least a few out the door. But not this one. No, these particular morons are going to entertain us until the bitter end. And it will be a bitter end! The Secret Service will have to kick these fools out the back door kicking and screaming all the way.

The Olympics is classic Obama. But not meeting with a wartime general when we are losing more and more soldiers – lives are LOST – has to be the most childish set of priorities since Nero.

“I am not interested in victory.” Obama refuses to read the report he ordered from McChrystal, that he ordered Gates to sit on, and orders McChrystal to Air Force One in London for a 20-minute lecture brow beating the General for making The One look bad on the international scene. Then Obama demands an @ss kissing from the IOC whom he insults and bores with a pseudo morality lesson otherwise called a losing bid. Meanwhile, our troops in Afghanistan are suffering from Obama’s abuse.

You know, I find myself getting madder and madder every day. This jokers primary function is to be the C&C of our military, but he is too consumed with his socialist agenda and his own omnipotence to spend even a little shred of his time on the war. Meanwhile our boys are dying by the bushel basket full. (8 more last night) but ZER-O can’t be bothered to look at the recommendations of his top general and make a decision about what to do.
His behavior is criminally negligent at best and treasonous more than likely. I am ready to see him suffer for his crimes someday.

Not meeting with McChrystal is dereliction of duty but the Olympics debacle was the definition of amateurism and wins my vote for Obamateurism of the Year. He put the prestige of the American presidency on the line in an extremely ill-considered effort and failed spectacularly in front of the whole world.

The winner for Obamateurism of the Week is not listed above. The picture worth 1000 words is on Drudge. It shows The Won trailing like a whipped puppy behind Linebacker Michelle, both looking like they have just had a huge fight, going out for the Saturday “Date Night” to celebrate their 17th anniversary. They, their motorcade and their minions went to the Blue Duck Tavern in D. C. where the motto is:
“Taste cannot be controlled by law,” — Thomas Jefferson.
The headline and adjacent pictures on Drudge: 10 American soldiers die in Afghanistan.
This should be Obamateurism of The Year — so far.

I hope Osama Obama’s foul links to SEIU are brought out at his impeachment trial. Right after his felonious and traitorous mishandling of the military — a clear violation of the oath of office he took — and his scandalous relationship with ACORN.

I agree entirely. And I’m wondering out loud whether Ed and Allah need to create a new “of the week” theme. I know that the olympic choice was the “obvious” one but if you think about the long term negative effects saying “I’m not interested in victory” as CINC is a true abomination. Our men and women are dying or coming home missing limbs so that Obambi can utter über nuanced phrases like that. We can win Afghanistan but it will be a generational war. That place is Jurassic Park in terms of civilization so they need a new religion, a new social order, and a new ideology. You don’t get that in 2 years.

I don’t really care about the whole olympics thing, other than that I believe it was an attempt at a political payoff for zero’s cronies in Chicago. It would have sunk the city deep into debt, brought them a terrorist attack, and made more liberals richer.
I think more attention should be focused on his SEIU and Acorn ties, meeting with them regularly while ignoring the general in charge of the Afghan theater….the theater of the “necessary” war that zero is now wishing would just.go.away.
What I REALLY think needs attention is giving the American people a way to have recall votes for congressmen, senators, and the president. It’d put a handle on our toilet so we can flush instead of having to endure the stench of this shit.

conservativegrandma on October 4, 2009 at 12:41 PM
At what point will this change from “Abamateurism” to the more accurate “Traitorism”? To imply an amateur quality to most of these actions is just wrong. It is not an amateur who refuses to speak with his commander and then pretends as if he’s now going to get around to considering the situation, as if he hadn’t already decided on serving Americans up to the Taliban until he can pull the troops out and declare total defeat? It wasn’t an amateur who further restricted the ROE while dithering on tactical support. This is a traitor at work.
Most of these selections fall into this same category. While The Precedent always provides a number of actions and statements that derive from his intense stupidity and lack of intellect, most of his worst actions (which are always numerous) are pure manifestations of his hate of America and desire to destroy our nation.
I understand the cuteness of the ‘Obamateurism’ label, but it has gone well beyond the point where cuteness should be chosen over accuracy, as the fate of our nation hangs in the balance.
