By Get-along I mean that is the way he comes across (my apologies for not making that clear earlier). He might be a 90% ACU Conservative but his demeanor is very gentle, non-threatening, very gentlemanly, very laidback. I would not call him charismatic AT ALL. He would be a great loyal member of the Parliament so-to-speak but Leader of the Party potential? Sorry, I don’t see it.

There are only two Potential party leaders that I can see right now on the GOP and that’s Mitt and High Heels. The rest?……great Cabinet Secretaries but that’s it.

But hey what do I know I’m just an old Geezer….hince the name. :-)

DeMint endorsed Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney, but I would probably vote for DeMint over Romney.

Yes, I am. I’m not all that observant, though I am very respectful (and proud) of the religious ideas and traditions. I just feel more comfortable with the hyphenated form. I do, however, cut and paste others’ comments without the hyphens, which is not technically “kosher” :)

WASHINGTON — Protests by conservative lawmakers led architects to promise to add “In God We Trust” as the national motto and to engrave the Pledge of Allegiance in the new $621 million Capitol Visitor Center.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., had threatened to delay Tuesday’s opening of the marble-and-stone center that took seven years to build at triple the original cost.

But some last-minute fixes allowed hundreds of visitors to get their first look at the underground museum — and now the first stop for people touring the Capitol — as it opened three years late and $360 million over budget.

A 186-foot marble wall holds display cases that document the nation’s milestones and key decisions in Congress. Visitors will find President Kennedy’s 1961 speech calling for the nation to send a man to the moon, Thomas Jefferson’s 1803 letter urging Congress to pay for the Lewis and Clark Expedition and James Madison’s notes for the Constitution.

At a dedication ceremony for the center, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the inclusive nature of the center’s main space, called Emancipation Hall in part because slaves helped build the Capitol.

After taking a tour of the center in September with Steven Ayers, the architect who oversaw its completion, DeMint correctly noted that it had erroneously described “E. Pluribus Unum” — Latin for “from many, one” — as the national motto rather than “In God We Trust.” Despite winning a months-long battle to highlight the importance of religion in U.S. life, DeMint was not satisfied Tuesday, saying the center still misrepresents American history by downplaying the faith of the founding fathers and other prominent figures. The center’s “most prominent display proclaims faith not in God, but in government,” he noted.

DeMint, rated the most conservative senator by several think tanks and advocacy groups, also protested an engraved statement near the center’s entrance: “We have built no temple but the Capitol. We consult no common oracle but the Constitution.”

That quote was uttered by Rufus Choate, a Massachusetts lawyer who represented his state in the House in the 1830s and in the Senate the decade after. GOP Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Roger Wicker of Mississippi, along with Republican Rep. Randy Forbes of Virginia, joined DeMint in the protest.

For now, “Our Nation’s Motto” has been plastered over so that it no longer describes “E Pluribus Unum.” That phrase is on a ribbon over an eagle on the official seal of the United States.

That was not the act of a wallflower eager to curry favor.

Senator DeMint is a rock-solid conservative. Joe Wilson, on the other hand, is much more wishy-washy, as much as I admired his little outburst. I believe he also voted for the TARP and stimulus bills. You can check him out on the same website.

He comes across as a ‘get-along’ Conservative. But I’m not impressed with anyone in D.C. except that moment when Joe Wilson spoke truth to power in the Congressional Joint Session. Even though Wilson had to apologize and got crucified for questioning our American Jesus he robbed Obama of his 3 days of fawning media coverage….and has been the ONLY GOP MEMBER OF CONGRESS to my knowledge to show some stones.

Demint…..if you’re not railing against Obamacare based on PRINCIPLES you’re just more Beltway Hot Air.

I totally agree. DeMint looks for what is best, meaning conservatism. He broke against the NRSC to support Toomey and Rubio. He’s an honorable man.

Jim DeMint would be an excellent Majority Leader in the Senate. We need more of his kind in Congress. Qualities such as his would bring back respect and dignity to our legislative body.

Your paraphrasing item 2) makes no sense in this application. Finally, I don’t have to be careful who I call a fool. If you are one, you will be offended and I don’t care, If you aren’t one, you won’t be. But if you would like my second to call on yours …?

You folks act like DeMint is the only honest man in the senate. What about Coburn and Inhofe? You are fools that just want to indiscriminately get rid of everyone because all (insert party affiliation here) are crooks and do not represent us. Many on both sides honestly believe differently than you, but that does not make them corrupt crooks. The fact that those that paint with that broad brush are fools, makes me less likely to accept their arguments. It is also insulting to conflate upstanding politicians with the likes of Murtha, Reed, Pelosi, Kennedy, Spector, Boxer, etc.

The spelling G-d is typical of Jewish people, who feel it is disrespectful to utter or write God’s name in full. So no, they shouldn’t use the whole thing.
