Video: The obligatory freaky deaky “Letterman tells all” clip
posted at 10:13 am on October 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
He plays it for laughs all the way through, a fact some TV critics find “creepy” but which was really the only way he could have played it. Remember, this bit followed the opening monologue. How much more bizarre would it have been to segue from that to some harrowing retelling of a multimillion-dollar extortion plot? Besides, the humor’s a way of connecting with the public on a human level, which may be important depending upon just how terrible the details of those “terrible things” he did turn out to be.
I still don’t understand why he felt compelled to talk about this, especially at such length and especially if his misdeeds are nothing worse than having cheated on his wife with staffers. Not that that’s okay, but if every celebrity affair warranted a public confession they’d have to set up a new cable channel to broadcast them all. In fact, according to TMZ, his relationship with the staffer in question ended six years ago, before he married his then-girlfriend and she gave birth to their son. Is that really the makings of a $2 million extortion attempt? What else was in the package Dave received? See why piquing the public’s curiosity was such a bad idea?
Whatever other stuff’s going to come out, presumably it can’t be so terrible that Letterman will come to regret using a light touch in talking about it. Exit question: How excited do you think CBS is to have to cover a story about one of its employees blackmailing another of its employees over an affair with yet another of its employees?

The angrier you get, the more illogical you get. And the baseline is incredibly low to begin with. Fun!
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 2:48 PM
He’s a talk show host moron. You could say the same of Leno. And in fact when unpleasant details about Letterman did come out through criminal acts</em (unlike with your examples)….he joked about it! Just like he did with the people you mentioned. Where’s the hypocrisy?
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 2:49 PM
Heh. Didn’t like that one did ya? That’s alright, keep your chin up.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 2:51 PM
I suspect that sarcasm is lost on those with an agenda.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 2:53 PM
Well other than the countless examples of posters here reveling in the results of that sweet, sweet extortion, here’s an example of someone actually “glorifying and excusing” the extortionist himself.
Absolutely wonderful right? I eagerly await your humble concession.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 2:55 PM
Actually I suspect he found it funny. I certainly did.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 2:55 PM
As opposed to what?
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 2:56 PM
I eagerly await your arguments that this is main argument within this topic. For as you stated
Broad brushes require lots of paint.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 3:02 PM
Ahhh it needs to be the “main argument” eh? Well seeing as you’d move the goalposts for all eternity, all take that as a groveling concession. Thanks for playing.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Dude, your goalposts get frequent flyer miles.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 3:07 PM
DAMNIT! I hate it when they remove videos like that. How crappy.
Bladerunner1701 on October 2, 2009 at 3:28 PM
Hey Dave, you dickwad, how does it feel to be Palinized. What goes around comes around. And you are a rat. I’m going to tell on you, yanny yanny boo hoo. What a disgusting little person you are Dave.
How old was she Dave? Did you give her roofies Dave? Was it rape rape?
jarhead0311 on October 2, 2009 at 3:31 PM
Watching you run away from your own words is victory enough.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 3:32 PM
Now THAT is thread winner.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 3:33 PM
I hear ya, but it seems to me this is SOP. I sometimes think O’Reilly has a “No Ugly Chicks Allowed–Unless Being Interviewed” policy. Hey, I appreciate foxy con babes as much as the next guy, but why not hire at least one not-so-hot female talking head, just for equal opportunity’s sake.
Oh, and you do rock.
Gang-of-One on October 2, 2009 at 4:38 PM
Mad assassin skills.
Gang-of-One on October 2, 2009 at 4:55 PM
Male or Female staffers?
DSchoen on October 2, 2009 at 4:55 PM
Video is gone.
John on October 2, 2009 at 5:03 PM
I had that same thought once and could only come with 2 answers:
1 Gold digger
2 Blind chick with no sense of smell
Gang-of-One on October 2, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Huh? You asked for evidence, I gave it. You want more, look through the threads yourself. Apparently you didn’t the first time because you missed that comment.
And celebrating the results of the extortion=celebrating extortion. By that standard 95% of the posters are complicit.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:11 PM
That’s how you know Treacher didn’t think of it himself.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:11 PM
That’s how you know Treacher didn’t think of it himself.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:12 PM
Why did millions of people listen to this jerk for umpteen years and make him rich?
Read a book or something for God’s sake. Quit supporting these immoral jerks. They certainly don’t give a hang about you.
Dr. ZhivBlago on October 2, 2009 at 5:13 PM
So it did sting.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Oh, you got so excited!
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Do you know Treacher thinks is the real victim in this extortion scheme?
Sarah Palin.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:33 PM
When in doubt: Non sequiturs.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:34 PM
You must be perpetually in doubt.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:35 PM
Could be.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:37 PM
Heh. Point taken. I forgot you’re a birther. Now you can add “extortion fan” to the resume. Classy.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:38 PM
Every time you pick up a crutch, it breaks. And yet you keep trying to use them.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:39 PM
Have you given up the dream yet? Or are you still holding out that your brothers-in-arms Jerome Corsi and Alex Johnson will expose Obama as an Indonesian-Kenyan and place your hero Joe Biden in office?
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:43 PM
As you know, I have no such dream. But I do wish you luck with your own dream of Barack Obama becoming a competent president.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:45 PM
I see. You wish to be exempt from being held judged by your words, expressed repeatedly over a period of weeks to months. If it’s any comfort, if I were you, I’d feel the same way.
zzzzzinnnggg!
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:50 PM
When all else fails, crr6 just flat-out lies.
It most certainly was.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 5:55 PM
You keep saying that when I call you on your birther-ness, but you never seem to say how exactly I’m lying. Odd.
I guess you’re not one to back up your assertions with evidence. If you’d like me to (and I have on this subject before) let me know.
Well, if you say so…
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 5:59 PM
I don’t believe Obama was born in Kenya and I’ve never said he was. You’re lying because you can’t handle losing an argument, despite your copious experience with it.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 6:00 PM
I didn’t say you ever said that, and Birthers don’t necessarily say that. Birthers are those who repeatedly demand for Obama’s “long-form birth certificate” to prove his citizenship, despite the fact he’s already provided ample evidence that he is a citizen. You were one of the most vocal members of the nut-job choir on this subject for weeks, at least.
I suppose implicit in that demand is a belief, or at least a strong suspicion that he wasn’t born here. Otherwise it’s all a massive waste of time is it not?
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 6:04 PM
Less than 20 minutes! That’s got to be a record, even for you.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 6:06 PM
Where exactly did I say you believe Obama was born in Kenya? I said Alex Johnson and Corse believe it. They share your obsession with Obama’ long form, hence the “brothers in arms”. But where did I say you think he was born in Kenya? Put up or shut up.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 6:08 PM
Oh, you didn’t. (Nobody scroll up.)
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 6:13 PM
That’s right. Now quit dodging. Once again…
Don’t complain about being called out on your idiocy if you can’t rebut it. God knows if you caught me trafficking in some conspiracy theory nuttiness you’d call me on it, and rightly so.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 6:18 PM
Your halfwitted assertions are self-rebutting.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 6:28 PM
BTW:
I was unaware you did much else.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 6:29 PM
Oh really?
You provided NOTHING from CSDeven suppporting your assertion against him. You posted a rather sardonic note from a ‘Mr. Purple’, who I guess we’re supposed to assume is CSD’s ‘friend’.
You mislabel treachers lack of sympathy, then you complain when I shorten the field for your broad attack by allowing you a broader interpretation (main argument).
The only reason the goal posts appear to be moving is because you’re running away from them.
You accused csd….and broadly went for his “friends” (whoever they are) you have established neither. You now another set of tire tracks on your back.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 6:31 PM
crr’s laptop is mounted to his sit’n spin. He can spin for days.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 6:33 PM
I don’t think Letterman or the staffer he has an affair with are CBS employees. He has a production company, Worldwide Pants Inc., which produces his show, and which has an exclusive contract with CBS. But Whatevs.
BCrago66 on October 2, 2009 at 6:35 PM
yeah….chuckles was to flustered to clear the copy function. That was bit confusing, even for him.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 6:35 PM
ummmmmm…your supposition here? True it is a question, but asked in the rhetorical manner indicating more of a staement.
crr needs more shovels….
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 6:39 PM
No…that’s his standard mental process.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 6:44 PM
here’s my question: is there more to this than just two consenting adults having a little fun around the office cooler when nobody was watching? This appears to be a boss-employee kind of work relationship; did the gal feel any employment pressure from Letterman before she participated in the act(s)?
I know, that’s a loooooong bridge to cross from the info we have at hand, and trust me I’m not jumping to any conclusions. But I sure think it would be fun to watch Dave have to defend himself against feminists, who should react clearly, quickly, and LOUDLY against acts of sexual harrassment.
Or, as would be the more likely scenario in this case, it would be fun to watch feminists give up what little remains of their credibility so that they didn’t have to renounce a lefty big-wig.
johnny alpha on October 2, 2009 at 6:58 PM
wha would be funny is the top ten list for this one. But then again David already wrote it….all he has to do is substitute his own name for “Mark Sanford”.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 7:01 PM
I’d ask you to back that up, but I suppose that’d be naive.
You’d better hope so because God knows you can’t do it.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:09 PM
Ahh so that was just “sardonic” now eh? What a nuanced interpretation. I take it this comment from last night’s thread is “sardonic” as well…
Anything that could prove Fighton wrong is hereby “sardonic”.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:13 PM
Awww. Poor Treacher needs some help from a friend.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:14 PM
Another post approving of the extortion…
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:19 PM
It’s an assertion. As valid as yours. Seems you have a problem with those if you don’t like them. hmmmmmmmm
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:20 PM
ohhhhhh, caught with your hand in the cookie jar again.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:22 PM
REALLY??????? sounds more like advice on how to avoid being targeted by criminals.
man you go farther than stretch armstrong.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:24 PM
Fighton’s advice on avoiding extortion: Don’t do anything bad for your entire life, ever.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:27 PM
I could go on….
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:29 PM
that’s a real good start huh?
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:29 PM
you certainly could continue to go on posting things that don’t support your assertion. but as they say, the first rule of holes is stop digging.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:30 PM
And on…
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:30 PM
New shovel…..quick!
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:31 PM
And on…
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:31 PM
It’s fun to watch you squirm.
And this is really exactly my point from earlier about the goalposts. Despite the fact that I’ve posted example after example of people approving of or celebrating the blackmail, you’ll never admit it’s “evidence”. Because you can’t. Even if I posted someone saying “blackmail is great!” you’d say it was “sardonic”.
Of course you know this, which makes it that much more satisfying to toy with you.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:35 PM
That’s close to an excuse, but once again read the bold. No sympathy for Letterman, not a statement that blackmail is acceptable practice.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Everyone who gets blackmailed did something wrong you moron. So saying “well, he did something wrong and I don’t have sympathy” is still approving of the blackmail. Get it?
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:38 PM
once again you try assert that “posters” are revelling in blackmail, and yet you post over and over again quotes that enjoy lettermans loss of face. You then try to switch that out to an approval of blackmail.
Still hasn’t happen. BTW….did you find CSD’s post yet?
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:38 PM
Granted there were some people who said “the blackmail was wrong, as is what Letterman did”, which is fine. But that was maybe 9 or 10 posters. Literally everyone else seemed to have absolutely no problem with extortion. It’s nuts.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:39 PM
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:40 PM
You’re getting closer here. I believe even CSD was one even of those people to explicitly make that distinction.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:42 PM
dang there must be a hot key for strikeouts….hmm
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Well my whole point is that the vast majority of the posters didn’t make the distinction, in fact many criticized AP for making that distinction (and feeling sorry for Letterman about the extortion). They had no problem with the extortion.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:44 PM
The absence of making the distinction does not indicate that posters believe the distinction does not exist. To use that absence to vilify a broad range of people is not a good way to make an argument.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:48 PM
Looks like chuckles was to flustered to use the strike function correctly. It was a bit confusing, even for you.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:48 PM
especially to target an individual poster with the inference rather than a specific example.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:49 PM
Yep, hot keys can be confusing if they aren’t shown. Could be a ctrl-s or something.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:50 PM
That’s why I use examples like this…
The poster explicitly refers to the blackmailing, and says it was ok because of his “bad decisions”. They’re approving of the extortion.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:51 PM
Seriously though, I have work to do and I can’t go around in circles with you anymore. Kudos for at least sticking around and making an argument rather than running away, like our misguided friend Mr. Treacher. If you’d like to post anything more I’ll check the thread tomorrow.
crr6 on October 2, 2009 at 8:53 PM
I believe I noted that you had found one that made an excuse. But where does the poster state that blackmailing was “OK”?
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:54 PM
If the thread is still on the board tomorrow I’ll return.
Fighton03 on October 2, 2009 at 8:56 PM
And dishonest.
You’re reminiscent of the Black Knight. More specifically, the limbless torso of the Black Knight.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Do hurry back.
Jim Treacher on October 2, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Ya know what? Someone could begin to ge tthe idea that CBS is a cesspool full of creepy, less than honorable people. Sort of like ACORN in that way. Maybe it has something to do with their corporate culture that attracts those types, or maybe they become like that after they are there. Whatever, I would not advise my granddaughter to apply for work at any CBS office.
