Question for McCain: Which part of Palin’s book are you most looking forward to?

posted at 2:22 pm on October 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

Interesting how, in answering it, he proceeds to volunteer his thoughts on the part he’s least looking forward to. Someone sounds nervous. Sarahcuda’s said enough flattering things about him in the past that I’m sure he’ll be held harmless in the book for the sins of his staffers, but I wonder what’ll happen if, as is expected, Meggie Mac’s forthcoming book takes a few swipes at her. Remember, La McCain has pointedly refused to talk about Palin in interviews, declaring her the one and only aspect of the campaign she won’t comment on, but she also told the Daily News there’ll be an entire chapter devoted to her in the book. Presumably it won’t all be flattering, in which case Maverick’s caught in the crossfire. In fact, with sales of Palin’s book expected to blow sky high on the strength of campaign dish, the temptation for Meghan and her publisher to use her own book to dispute Palin’s account of the campaign will be enormous. Calling the ‘Cuda a diva or a liar or both would earn her even more fawning media coverage than she’s used to and would be a major jolt for sales. And a major pain in the ass for McCain, needless to say. If it happens, how will he play it? Besides looking uncomfortable and muttering “I love them both,” I mean?

Jenfidel on October 1, 2009 at 2:30 PM

I can’t wait for this book. Obviously McLame is nervous for a reason.
His silence was deafening when his co-horts Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, and her husband spread vicious and fictitious rumors of Palin out of spite.
Randy Scheunemann (McCain’s fired foreign policy adviser, and aid to Palin now for her speech in Hong Kong) and Bill Kristol revealed the culprits.
Instead of defending Sarah against these creeps, McCain uttered how important Pawlenty and Jindal is for the future of the GOP. Pathetic.

cubachi on October 1, 2009 at 2:30 PM

If Meghan does go after Palin in her book, she’ll have to contradict a LOT of glowing praise she gave Palin and her family at the time. I’ve saved much of the video from the 2008 campaign, and have been awaiting Meh-gan’s cheap shots. When the time comes, the question must be asked: “If you were lying then, Meghan, why should we believe you now?”

L.N. Smithee on October 1, 2009 at 2:31 PM

Is anyone, beside the media of course, really all that interested in Meghan McCain’s views of the campaign? I really can’t say I care what she thought about it and doubt I’d find it an interesting read.

This possible in-fighting really isn’t very helpful.

Good post. I’ve been less than impressed with McCain after the way he handled the post-election. I got the impression that he was embarassed she outshined him, he was embarassed that it was his ridiculous action that flipped the switch for many undecided voters, and that he rather liked the left attack on her since it made him look OK.

That’s not particularly admirable.

Ahhhh… another day, another Palin post to drive up the traffic.

But in all seriousness, Palin has way too much class to significantly trash anyone by name (McCain family or staffers). However, I do think she will reveal some info about how the handlers treated her, etc. Probably in a more generic way.

As for the blowfish Meggie, I would not put it past her to trash Palin which will further ingratiate her w/ the MSM. Question will be whether Palin responds directly to her or not. I would guess not even tho I would love her to do so.

Sarah is a class act.

Meghan is a spoiled, self centered brat, who blames Sarah, and everyone but, for her daddy not being president.

It just seems to me, at this point in time, daddy McCain is more than happy to let his daughter be his mouth piece, so he can stay above the fray. However, with so much going on, and so much being exposed on a daily basis, it’s just not that hard to see thru this thin veil.

capejasmine on October 1, 2009 at 2:39 PM

I don’t think Gov. Palin will say anything bad about Mr. McCain, or much of anyone for that matter. Differences in how the campaign was run are legitimate and don’t have to be personal. Ms. McCain will be required to do a rewrite before publication so as not to look like a spoiled brat.

Nicole Wallace in particular has to be scared out of her mind. This wasn’t the plan. The plan was to embarass and marginalize Palin to the point she was never heard from again. Now she’s in the position where she is the likely villian of the biggest book of the year. No more Hannity appearances for her!

What dirt could Meggie Mac have on Palin? Outside of the first day or two, did they travel together at all, maybe a quick appearance here and there. My guess is that much of Meg’s alleged dirt comes from the same campaign staffers who are going to get decimated in “Going Rogue…”

I agree that Palin won’t bash McCain – if only due to liking him personally. She will probably also refrain from beating on the blond bimbette because she hated the attacks on her own children.

I’m not so sure she’ll give the staffers a pass. She may not call them out by name but it’s hard to believe that she won’t discuss the instances of what she saw as mishandling her – and the readers should be able to connect the dots as to who she’s referring to.

Sarah has been consistent in her praise for John McCain and I doubt she’ll do a 180 and start badmouthing him.

In a recent radio interview with Ziegler, he encouraged her to take a shot at McCain’s lack of support for her, and Sarah told John that if he’s looking for her to say something negative about John, it’s not going to happen. She loves him (her words) and was honored he chose her.

Staffers? Yeah, I think she’ll dish and I think she’ll name names. She doesn’t appear to be the type to use anonymous names: she’ll name the names and let the chips fall where they may.

It will also put his “judgment” into question. Palin didn’t go to him and ask to join his campaign, he went to her. And it was his decision to add her to the ticket. If Meghan writes unflattering stuff about dumb ole Palin….it makes her father look bad.

And isn’t he up for re-election in 2010?

I also think Meghan’s book will be typical Meghan blah and she will be permanently despised amongst Republicans…and she will just haaaaaaaave to go to the Democratic party, which is where she was before he daddy ran for President. Why should he play it any other way? Ronald Reagan had Ron, Jimmy had Billy, and Sarah even had Bristol.

Our relatives (children included) are apt to do or say things we do not think is right, and we have to live with them. The words don’t come out of our mouths and don’t represent our feelings, and that’s the point McCain will certainly make should the Plus Sized Pundit decide to “dish” on his former running-mate.

I can’t imagine Sarah will be vindictive.

I heard there was supposed to be one passage that went:

Palin said “I hate that little tart, I was all set to dig into some Twinkies on the tour bus after a long speech, and I found that Meggie had scarfed them all down.”

When told that this happens frequently, Palin was overheard to say “oh……nevermind then”.

Not attacking fellow republicans is one thing, defending yourself from attacks from snotty little rich girls is something else.

The Chubby One’s Waterloo

Her weight shouldn’t be anyone’s real concern. That’s sexism, Blake.

I see these comments on both left and right, and it really is crazy.

Who cares?

I think the book will be about her roots. I think she’ll follow up with another book. That one will lay out a vision.

This one is more a “getting to know me” kind of book.

Frankly, she’s following Obama on this.

AnninCA on October 1, 2009 at 2:51 PM

No, from the synopsis, it’s clear she’s going to lay out some policy, too:

With her customary blunt common sense, she sets the record straight about the many myths and lies that have been spun around her and lays out her vision for an America that is strong, independent, and free.

yogi41 on October 1, 2009 at 2:58 PM

That is true, unlike John McCain, she doesn’t attack her own party…

Ronaldus Magnus 11th commandment

Although, Palin has been known to clean up the abuse within the GOP. We could use that talent to rid the party of its RINOism disease.

Do you believe it will be Shamuta that will finally put the net over Chuckie?

HornetSting on October 1, 2009 at 2:58 PM

Sarah will be the same ole Sarah. nothing more..nothing less..just her self. where ever the chops falls is where they fall…..McLame is a burnt duck.

I think Obama had a very active ‘editor,’ too. He just wasn’t in the public eye when he wrote his autobiography.

Almost all political figures use ghostwriters/editors.

Bill Clinton did not. If you read his book, you’ll see why it’s actually a good idea to have one. *haha

(And, remember…..I really adore him!)

Omigod, it’s dangerous to turn these people loose with blank pages. :)

AnninCA on October 1, 2009 at 2:59 PM

Maggie obviously is protective of her dad. Nothing wrong with that. She’s just a kid.

AnninCA on October 1, 2009 at 2:38 PM

Just because she has never worked doesn’t make her a kid. She is 26, I think.

TXMomof3 on October 1, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Meghan is a spoiled, self centered brat, who blames Sarah, and everyone but, for her daddy not being president.

At her age, that classifies her as normal. *haha

AnninCA on October 1, 2009 at 2:42 PM

On the other hand Sarah’s oldest son is, I believe, still deployed in Iraq.

Yep. Everything in CJ’s world is six degrees from racism. It’s a game he plays consistently and it’s so stupid.

I think in his ghostwriter posts, he says its racist to say that abortion is equivalent to black genicide. When 60% of abortions are done by blacks, what else would you call it?
