Question for McCain: Which part of Palin’s book are you most looking forward to?

posted at 2:22 pm on October 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

Interesting how, in answering it, he proceeds to volunteer his thoughts on the part he’s least looking forward to. Someone sounds nervous. Sarahcuda’s said enough flattering things about him in the past that I’m sure he’ll be held harmless in the book for the sins of his staffers, but I wonder what’ll happen if, as is expected, Meggie Mac’s forthcoming book takes a few swipes at her. Remember, La McCain has pointedly refused to talk about Palin in interviews, declaring her the one and only aspect of the campaign she won’t comment on, but she also told the Daily News there’ll be an entire chapter devoted to her in the book. Presumably it won’t all be flattering, in which case Maverick’s caught in the crossfire. In fact, with sales of Palin’s book expected to blow sky high on the strength of campaign dish, the temptation for Meghan and her publisher to use her own book to dispute Palin’s account of the campaign will be enormous. Calling the ‘Cuda a diva or a liar or both would earn her even more fawning media coverage than she’s used to and would be a major jolt for sales. And a major pain in the ass for McCain, needless to say. If it happens, how will he play it? Besides looking uncomfortable and muttering “I love them both,” I mean?

No, from the synopsis, it’s clear she’s going to lay out some policy, too:

OK, we’ll see. It’s only 400 pages, though.

AnninCA on October 1, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Why would he do that? Is he a sexist? If his daughter went after Rudy Giuliani would he profess to love ‘em both, the cute darlings?
Chris_Balsz on October 1, 2009 at 2:53 PM

Different scenario. Rudy was not McCain’s running mate.

There’s been many comments about Palin and her negatives. To which no one has been able to articulate one negative to date.

Quite frankly, I’m not interested in the least what McCain or his daughter think, say or write. They had their chance and blew it right out the window. While a McCain presidency would be far superior to the Socialist government now in place, I can’t help but think that the Senator and his daughter are rapidly becoming irrelevant.

Sarah Palin is totally another story. She is extremely relevant and will remain so for several years to come. When a McCain speaks there’s little or no impact. When Palin speaks you can hear it from here to Russia.

(Much less believe her over Sarah!)

Jenfidel on October 1, 2009 at 2:30 PM

If it bashes Palin the press will read it and market it on MMc’s behalf. See how it works, the press doesn’t have to read it but they will anyway to further try and denigrate Sarah. Of course, it won’t work. They are simply elevating her and unknowingly building a huge foundation of support from the common folk on her behalf.

It is quite the phenomenon and something that hasn’t been seen since Reagan. The political class hates her and targets her, but her power continues to grow.

Let’s hope she goes Independent.

I’d like to see Sarah cut off McCain’s testicles in her book. Doubt that will happen though. She’ll keep it classy for the most part in regards to Ole Maverick. As for Fatty McCain and her “memoirs” the only person who’ll purchase a copy is probably Allah bin Tollbooth. And he’ll try to get a reduced rate.

HornetSting on October 1, 2009 at 2:51 PM

This is another quality in admire in Palin. Unless I’ve missed something, she hasn’t been harsh towards fellow Republicans that disagree with her on issues. And that’s a really tough thing to do: have a civil disagreement with members of the GOP or moderate swing voters who are not solidly in the conservative camp.

While conservatives are a majority of the GOP, we aren’t a majority of the national vote, so we have to pull others along with us who disagree with us on some things. At the least, that means being civil within the GOP, and sometimes it actually means making compromises, but not on core principles. Somehow, Reagan did that.

anyone see Charles Johnson’s ridiculous post about Palin’s “ghostwriter”?

Yes. If I’m following Chaz the Spaz correctly, Palin’s co-writer once co-wrote a book with RS McCain (who as Chaz will tell you is a raaaaacist) and RS McCain once worked for a website which once had a link to another site which once had a post that said that some white people are uncomfortable with mixed-race marriages.

So, of course, the Lizard King brilliantly deduced that Sarah Palin is a raaaaacist White Supremicist.

The Little Green Meltdown is spectacularly disturbing. By Chuckie’s 6-degrees-of-seperation and twisted logic, everyone in the wrold is a raaaaacist. Except him, and his sockpuppets.

I expect Sarah to be honest and exhibit her characteristic charm and grace. But even charming and graceful honesty will not serve McCain’s idealized vision of himself. What his squirrel-brained daughter thinks is of no concern to me and I don’t expect to be searching for her screed in its inevitable location; the bargain bin.

SKYFOX on October 1, 2009 at 3:33 PM

DanaSmiles on October 1, 2009 at 3:34 PM

My fondest wish is that Schmidt and Wallace are humiliated to the degree they tried to humiliate Sarah. Couldn’t happen to two more deserving people. Placing her under virtual house arrest in Philadelphia is maybe one of the most embarassing things I’ve ever seen done to a national candidate. Those two morons more or less created the media narrative Sarah is still trying to clean up…

Nat Hound on October 1, 2009 at 2:46 PM

If Sarah is going to any “damage” with her book, it’s probably going to be in the service of expouding on broad principles. Specifically, she’s going to demonstrate that Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt have no broad principles other than furthering their own careers. She’s going to make those two an example of how ill-served the nation is by time-servers who have no understanding of how times have changed.

She has terrific attributes and she also has negatives (you pointed out a few of them). But I don’t think it accomplishes much to compare her to Obama at this point. Yes, its obvious that she is a gazillion times better than Barry, but so are Huck, Mitt, Rudy, Pawlenty, and Gingrich (to name a few). She has to hold her own against other Republicans at this point.

highhopes on October 1, 2009 at 3:16 PM

Sarah Palin, at age 45, probably represents the GOP youth better than anyone–she is also younger than Obama!

Meghan McCain doesn’t represent much of anything, not even her father. If the Prodigal Daughter believes herself to be the future of the GOP, she should follow in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan, Jr. and become a Democrat.

In her book, Sarah Palin would be wise not to be too critical of Senator John McCain, who brought her into the national limelight by nominating her for Vice President. But if her message was being squelched by McCain’s staffers, she can let them have it. Who was drawing the big crowds at 2008 GOP campaign rallies, Palin or McCain?

The best thing Sarah Palin could do in her book is to avoid dwelling on the past (which could sound like whining or sour grapes), and put forth her ideas for the future of this country, including on issues that she did not address during the 2008 campaign. I hope it’s a good read!

John McCain – the man, the legend, has spoken.

If he had suspended his campaign to oppose (and not support) TARP and used competent campaign advisors (which obviously excludes the Bush White House re-treads he used and foisted on Sarah), he may have a different address.

Of course Meghan will go after Sarah – for the same reason that Time puts her on it cover – to sell copies.

Without criticizing Sarah, Meghan’s shallow book would be deader than Kelsey’s nuts.

As Levi Johnson (aka Ricky Hollywood) has demonstrated, slamming Sarah ensures that she will get prime exposure on the Today Show, the View, Oprah, Olby, Anderson Cooper, Wolfy, etc.

Meghan McCain needs to stick with trying to coordinate combination outfits, hanging out at the mall and keeping up with her sorority sisters.

She’s writing a book?

She can’t even form a compound sentence.

She reminds me of Sally Struthers in “All in the Family”.

Rumint: Hagel to Replace Gates By End of Year

As Think Progress notes, last night the boss floated a very well-sourced rumor that Secretary Gates will be out by the end of the year and replaced by Chuck Hagel, who the boss described as an “advocate of retreat everywhere.” Indeed Hagel is not only an advocate of retreat everywhere, he is set to be the keynote speaker at J Street’s Israel-bashing conference at the end of the month. If Kristol’s intel is on target, watch for Hagel to skip the J Street confab in favor of something more respectable…like a Van Jones seminar on the collapse of World Trace Center 7.

Megs? Calling Palin a Liar? That will be nothing.

Wait until Levi Johnson comes out with his book and tells the world that Palin often would drag him (underage) out to the woods to have sex with the Moose population. Of course after she had profanity laced tirades about Blacks, jews and Christians. That was when she could form a sentence she was whacked out on meth or crack. You see he (Levi) tried to get her to stop but not even her family could.

This is why Palin is so damaged. The tabloidization of our best hope of recapturing the White House.

The he said / she said back and forth over the next 6 months or year will damage her with Independents. Those that hate will have their material and Megs and Levi are doomed to hook up together. They deserve each other.

Sarah Palin has grace, class, and intelligence. Meghan McCain? She’s just living off of Mommy and Daddy’s money.

By her age, I had worked 10 years, spend 4.5 of them in college (while working full-time), had been married for 4 years and had a 2-year-old son.

My 23-year-old has been working full-time since he was 17, until his layoff in March. I’m sure he would love to get paid to travel around the country commenting on politics.

McCain is still recovering from Teddy Kennedy’s wake. McNasty was unhinged by his grief for Teddy. McCain almost exploded when Orrin Hatch took a shot at him at Teddy’s wake.

He’ll follow the media’s directives and once again throw Sarah under the bus.

Different scenario. Rudy was not McCain’s running mate.

Love the one you’re with?

My bet is that Sarah Palin will be classy as to John McCain and will blame certain staffers, who incidentally should catch grief. Both John McCain and Sarah Palin deserved far better than what some staffers did.

As for Meghan McCain, someone should tell her that she is not going to look good if she takes a swipe at Sarah Palin. People are paying too much attention to her and not enough attention to Meghan’s brothers in the military.

Looks like Meggies is taking pop shots at AllahP again. From her twitter:

you know that saying “you think you know but you have no idea” – that is for pathetic, creepy bloggers that obsess over my life

and

people don’t know my life or what my experience on the campaign was like, which is why I am writing a book. Stop speculating, u dont know me

and

this is not directed at my supporters, this is at “political pundits” who project their image of a republican woman on me, I dont fit it DUH

and

men will always have a hard time with an outspoken, independent, sexually empowered woman, especially when the GOP is involved…

Isn’t that what she wants? For everyone to pay attention to her? Because the above doesn’t square with her next tweet:

Everyone watch me on Jay Leno tomorrow!! I am so excited, it is such a fun show and he is the nicest man in television!

This is why I wish AP would just stop paying attention to her.
