Jimmy Carter: I never said Obama protesters were racist

posted at 3:38 pm on October 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart. Evidently the entire country, including the White House, misunderstood what he meant by “intensely demonstrated” when he said, “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American.” That’s the money quote from the interview that aired on NBC on September 15 — just six days after Joe Wilson’s outburst and three days after the 9/12 Project’s massive rally in D.C. Compare and contrast the before and after below. I wonder which Obama aide was tasked with dialing him up and insisting upon this highly nuanced bit of revisionism. Rahm, you think? Or is this an Axelrod special?

So, now he’s into some “vituperative” kind of nonsense … Okay doke. And, if you listen to the first interview, he said “obamanable circumstance” … but we’ll let the old fool slide on that.

What a pathetic loser this guy is. He should just go away, already. He has been nothing but a destructive force of stupidity and incompetence. Carter has lived to do nothing but increase entropy for every system he’s touched.

Closet segregationist goes oomph … Jimmy Carter in his pre-governor days isn’t pretty.

tarpon on October 1, 2009 at 3:56 PM

Carter must think he’s mastered the new Democratic Jedi mind trick of saying one thing one day – and then denying it the next. The problem is – no one in his party has mastered it yet – but they keep trying …

Obi Wan: “These are not the droids you are looking for”

The One: “There are no Death Panels in this Bill … no funded abortions … and no care for illegal aliens … it’s all just misinformation”

Howard Dean: “That is NOT what I said!!”

Bill Clinton: “That is why I OPPOSED the invasion of Iraq.”

Jobi Bidenwodi: “Man this stimulus is reallly kicking ass!”

HondaV65 on October 1, 2009 at 3:56 PM

Dr. Walter E. Williams responded to Carter’s comments in this week’s article. Key paragraph:

… For the most part, white bigots are no longer respected among whites and I look forward to the day when black bigots are no longer respected among blacks.

When one says that race is no longer the problem it once was, it is not the same as saying that there are not major problems that confront a large segment of the black population. Grossly fraudulent education is a major problem but it has nothing to do with racial discrimination as evidenced by the fact that the worse education received is in the very cities where blacks dominate the political structure. Crime is a major problem but it has nothing to do with racial discrimination, particularly in light of the fact that blacks commit most of the violent crime in America and well over 90 percent of their victims are black. The fact of a 70 percent illegitimacy rate and only 35 percent of black children raised in two-parent homes is a major problem but it has nothing to do with racial discrimination.

SFTech on October 1, 2009 at 3:57 PM

Senility and dementia, standing on a pedestal of idiocy and failure. The sun probably balks at shining on him.

Worse, Carter still hopes to salvage some kind of better legacy.

What’s done is done; Carter long ago became a non-person like Khruschev in 1964. Only the silly MSM keeps him around to try trolling for Democrat support and that of moderates. Otherwise, I wonder what those arrogant MSM snots truly think of him.

Liam on October 1, 2009 at 3:58 PM

I blame fermented peanuts.
And Bush.

HornetSting on October 1, 2009 at 3:58 PM

It’s been more than thirty years and I still can’t get over the fact that the US voted this dimwitted, anti-Semitic, peanut farming version of Howdy Doody to the presidency. Yeah, I know: after Watergate. the Democrats could have run a slug and won. But the fact remains that this dullard is still speaking his mind. Unfortunately for Carter, his mind is full of things such as “it’s the JOOOOOOOS!!!!”, so it’s kind of a problem. What’s a bigger problem is that people keep giving this kook a soapbox. Well, it could be worse I suppose: he could still be president and he could be giving us another malaise speech.

Physics Geek on October 1, 2009 at 3:58 PM

This can only mean that the race card is really starting to get played out…and backfire. Idiotic overuse does that.

AUINSC on October 1, 2009 at 3:59 PM

She’s giving him the, “use your ‘they took me out of context’ card.”

That really bugs me. No they didn’t take him out of context. The left throws this argument around all the time and has nothing to back it up.

Making anachronistic excuses after the fact doesn’t make a context.

Jussi on October 1, 2009 at 3:55 PM

I actually remember Carter as president, but wasn’t old enough to vote for him, and was at the age, where politics was down low on my list, in comparison to that all important slumber party. lol However, all the hate for Bush, that propelled Obama to office, can be pretty much summed up for Carter. The nation was angry at Nixon. So…in my opinion….before voting, and voting on emotions such as anger, it’s certainly more important, and crucial to vote the policies. Sure, some got back at the Republicans, by voting thru their anger, but as has been said. Elections have consequences.

capejasmine on October 1, 2009 at 4:02 PM

Jussi on October 1, 2009 at 3:55 PM

Carter won in ’76 because there was still a strong anti-Republican tide in the wake of Watergate and Nixon’s resignation two years before. Many people claimed to have voted for Carter due to Ford’s preemptive pardon of Nixon. Even with all that, the election was very close. Not as close as 2000, but comparable to 2004.
