These French politicians speaking out now are just following the lead of the French public, who were expressing outrage earlier this week at the French “elites’” defense of Polanski, and their attempts to rationalize away and/or diminish his crimes.

This, combined with Sarkozy’s reported characterization of Obama as an ignorant narcissist, is causing me to re-evaluate the French character. Maybe they’re not the limp-wristed, cheese-eating surrender monkeys we’ve always believed they were . . . .
