Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on September 30, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Res ipsa loquitur:

  • General Stanley McChrystal, 9/27/09: “I’ve talked to the President once since I’ve been on a VTC.”
  • LA Times, 6/28/09, on SEIU president Andy Stern’s relationship with White House: “Stern estimates he visits the White House once a week.”

I guess it all depends which war has a higher priority …

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

I watched Madeline Albright on Fox and Friends this am. Kilmeade asked her about Obama’s lack of contact with McChrystal. Her response was that it doesn’t matter how he gets the information, himself or through a surrogate, but rather that he gets the information. And I’m screaming at Kilmeade to ask her why that isn’t good enough for a union hack from the SEUI. She is a democrat hack.

Your focus determines your reality. Obama’s reality is not in the best interests of this country’s ability to deal with important international issues. It is the continuing ability for the unions to keep power for the sole purpose of keeping the democrats power base intact.

While we read and watch what is going on with Obama, there are thousands of Americans that are not paying attention to his many missteps. They still think he is doing a great job since they don’t read the internet and don’t watch foxnews. They rely on the msm which has been hiding most of the Obama missteps.

If McChrystal had said he talked to Obama once a week, Captain Ed would be first out the gate with an Obama Derangement filled post of “Why is Obama micromanaging the war? Why won’t he let the troops do what they do best?!”

e-pirate on September 30, 2009 at 8:26 AM

I don’t want to conjure lurid images or anything, because that would be wrong, but…

The same parallel was drawn with Bill Clinton, who during the metastasizing years of Al Qaeda, met far more frequently with Monica Lewinsky than with the head of the FBI or the CIA.

Now, I’m not comparing the union bosses to Monica Lewinsky, or insinuating that some sort of symbolic fellatio is taking place or anything.

Well, I guess I am.

I wonder if the union thugs dress up in blue dress for those special “under the desk” meetings?

The only explanation I can think of is that President Obama lied to the People in order to get elected.

Strawman argument. I call total BS on you over this. During wartime presidents meet with their generals all the time, think Lincoln & FDR. It does not mean that the president gets to direct tactical operations or set some strategy, but the president should know what’s going on. Oh, and make a decision as to whether or not the in theater commanding general’s request for more troops should be granted. Much more important than whether Chicago gets the 2016 Olympics.

How the filthy lying coward in the White House gets briefed on ongoing military operations in Afghanistan isn’t at the crux of this issue. It’s that the rat bastard traitor has shown little to no interest in these operations. American troops are getting killed and the filthy coward is spending more time strategizing with labor unions than formulating a strategy. He knows the request has been made for more troops but is ignoring that request.

Bottom line troll, our troops deserve better than a part-time Commander-in-Chief.

As with so many other facets of Obama’s governing philosophy, this is not an amateurism but rather a true reflection of his principles. The war in Afghanistan is an irritating distraction from his domestic agenda, which is very obviously what he regards as his true calling.

Now that begs the question of how and why so many people voted for Obama when it was pretty clear that’s the kind of president he would be, but that’s another matter.

Then there are the ones like e-pirate, who think they are paying attention and are convinced that they can trust Obama and his promises. Beware of the mess when their heads begin to explode. They are of the type who will not recognize a lie untill it bites their personal butt, repeatedly.

Yoop on September 30, 2009 at 9:04 AM

Obama and Stern(and Axelrod and Emmanuel) are coordinating day-to-day political strategy for the President’s domestic agenda. Petreus and McChrystal are coordinating day-to-day strategy for the nation’s war in Afghanistan. Today, when larger decisions are being deiscussed, Petreus and McChrystal are in the important meeting they need to be in.

I have a question about this fake controversy anyway: Aren’t there two or three levels between the President and McChrystal? Wouldn’t Obama be undercutting his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, his Secretary of Defense and his Theater Commander if he started ringing up McChrystal directly? And what would Obama do, discuss tactics? Isn’t that what Petreus does? Sure, FDR and Lincoln might have been talking to Ike and Grant, but were they in direct communication with those general’s subordinates?

Besides the implication and message it sends to friend and foe alike across the globe that the US will only fight that which attacks her for less than a decade, think Pakistan. The Taliban are not confined to political borders even at this point. The lawless regions of Pakistan fluctuate with support and logistics (regarding who seems in control). A victory for them and they grow in power.

Imagine if their power becomes large enough to compete for central control of Pakistan. Taliban supported country with nukes.

Ah yes. As self-apponted spokesmodel for the political ideology that screwed up Iraq for four years and Afghanistan for eight — resulting in thousands of casualties — and critic of all things Left, you play, as you always do, the Troop Card. It’s a pathetic and dishonerable ploy, though a classic one, useful only to distract attention from what a hash Bush, Cheney et al made of the situation.

Now, after eight years of screwups, the Commander in Chief is being asked to make the biggest strategic decision of the Afgham war since we subcontracted out Tora Bora and let bin-Laden escape, in 30 days (since McChrystal submitted his report). Why? Because hasty decisions have worked well in tha past? Or because you have found a political wedge and you don’t actually care what happens to the troops on the ground or America’s larger strategic concerns as long as you can score a few cheap political points and replentish the bile that poisons your soul.

You, sir, a scoundrel.

By Stephen Collinson (AFP) – 10 hours ago

WASHINGTON — US President Barack Obama gathers an array of high-powered advisors Wednesday to begin a sweeping Afghan strategy review that will culminate in a fateful decision on whether to escalate the war.

Obama has called his most formidable military, political and national security aides to the secure Situation Room of the White House, to brainstorm the way forward as he mulls sending thousands more US troops into battle….

Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert Gates were the top ranking civilian officials expected for a bracing session on a war some supporters fear could swamp Obama’s presidency.

War commander General Stanley McChrystal, who warned in a leaked report that the conflict could be lost within a year without more troops, was also due to to take part, either in person or by video link-up, the White House said.

Other top military brass included were General David Petraeus who heads US central command, Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence Admiral Dennis Blair.”

I’m glad he could finally fit that into his busy TV appearance schedule.

but highhopes: as i was reminded yesterday by a poster in Virginia no less, bambi shows great respect for the soldiers & praises them regularly.

What was it Ogabe said during the campaign about “words, just words”? How prophetic.

SKYFOX on September 30, 2009 at 9:44 AM

You can tell B.O. really knows how to set his priorities.

Afghanistan is literally on the verge of turning into a meat grinder.

Israel is literally a hairsbreadth away from bombing Iran into couscous.

Healthcare reform is turning into a boondoogle the size of Godzilla.

Unemployment is rapidly approaching an all-time high.

The banking industry is slowly crumbling.

And where is B.O. in all of this?

Heading to Copenhagen to make sure his One True Master, Lord Mayor Shortshanks Daley of Chicago, gets the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Hey, America! You wanted Hope and Change!

So how’s it taste now?

This is not Barry’s narcissistic amateurism at work. This is Obama at his most dangerous, placing his extremist left-wing agenda over the safety of our troops and our citizens and our nation.

Some choose to ignore the obvious until it is their personal ox that is gored to near death. Well, then there are those that will choose to never get the message.

They are still waiting for the news media bailout.

As far as IWon meeting with his 10 advisers about Afghanistan, GREAT. It IS about time sine the General’s report was sent in August. Now will this meeting take place before or after IWon runs off to Copenhagen to make his Chicago Olympics plea? Will IWon manage to be present when his advisers decide the fate of Americans in a war zone or will he be making another one of his many TV appearances? Has he had a recent date night with Michelle or can we expect that to interrupt the schedule?

I never thought I would witness a politician who would make me long for the patriotic days of the clinton administration.

Hasty decisions?

Really?

I didn’t realize that this Afghanistan thingie just now popped up on the radar screen. I could have sworn that I heard ol’ Jug-ears preaching about the “right war” incessantly during the campaign. Musta been my imagination.

It must be nice to be able to lie to yourself so convincingly.

You are wrong, he did express his strategy, back in March. It’s just been a total failure, and therefore, the MSM and everyone else act like this is the first time he’s had to address Afghanistan.

If only he would lie to himself about things that only impact him, like how handsome and svelte he is, instead of politics, which impacts us all.

venividivici on September 30, 2009 at 10:09 AM

You raise a fair point, young man.

So after promising he WOULD do just that, why won’t Obama listen to his commanders on the ground?

The only explanation I can think of is that President Obama lied to the People in order to get elected.

What a great response to troll disinformation and projection. Clear, concise, and pointed. Thank you very much.

Loxodonta on September 30, 2009 at 10:15 AM

If McChrystal had said he talked to Obama once a week, Captain Ed would be first out the gate with an Obama Derangement filled post of “Why is Obama micromanaging the war? Why won’t he let the troops do what they do best?!”

So true. Our boys and girls in the military knows the liar has their backs. They can feel the knife sliding in. Osama must be having an orgasm watching “the one” doing more damage to our troop and allies than he ever could.

McChrystal just submitted his report. I think we can all agree that decisions of this magnitude should be made carefully, and on the latest data.

That Obama should be expected to utterly change strategy in an inherited war now eight years old in a matter of days is absurd.

After all the promises that Obama has broken since his plethora of campaign pledges, and all the meaningless words he has uttered since taking office, that is all they have left: that lying to themselves.

IF they ever realize and accept the truth about what the Whitehouse is up to with their long range plans they will have to scurry to cover up things that even lies will not render invisible.

There is no way they will be able to reconcile all the lies they have told themselves without suffering complete and total nervous breakdowns. It could be a real show.
