Bette Midler to Joy Behar: Glenn Beck’s going to turn America into Rwanda or something

posted at 7:44 pm on September 30, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’m as shocked as you are. You mean Joy Behar and Bette Midler aren’t the same person?

What’s the weirdest part about this segment? Not the Divine Miss M suggesting that those who traffic in “hate speech,” as she defines it, should have less than robust First Amendment rights. That’s par for the course for a certain strain of leftist dimwit. No, I think it’s the Rwanda analogy. Of all the demagogue comparisons she could have drawn and with which Beck is forever being bludgeoned — Father Coughlin, Howard Beale, just for starters — she reaches for … Rwanda? Her political frame of reference is certainly diverse, I’ll give her that.

Newsbusters also has the audio of Beck’s rebuttal, although it’s lengthy enough that you’re better off with the transcript. Or, better still, re-read Jesse Walker’s meditation at Reason about the paranoid style in center-left politics, by which each crime perpetrated by a fringe-nut douchebag is laid at the feet of mainstream commentators as part of some grand, ill-defined “conspiracy.” If the worst fears about Bill Sparkman’s murder prove true and he was targeted for being a census worker, rest assured that Glenn Beck will become public enemy number one on Behar’s show. I heard about this earlier today. These people are so far of the deep end there is no hope for them. I think Beck is a tad self aggrandizing, but homicidal? Please…and if this silly woman really believes that all those flag waving folks out there are going to come after her with machetes then she needs to find a new shrink.

I had the same thought earlier on another thread, it is as if words don’t mean anything anymore. Fascist, racist, genocide…are just constructs, not real words with real meaning.

Physician heal thyself. You are taking the random mutterings of a has-been celeb far too seriously. Almost as absurd of Tom Delay going on a dance show.

Bette Midler to Joy Behar:

“Do you think we can say something stupid and outrageous enough to get Hot Air to write about it?”

The only Civil War that’s happening is on Bette’s scalpled face job and her “Friends” haircut.

THE CHOSEN ONE on September 30, 2009 at 8:41 PM

I disagree, Chosen, as facelifts go, Bette has had some lovely cosmetic surgery. She actually looks softer than she did 8 years ago when I saw her in concert. As for what’s inside her head and comes out her mouth…that’s another story: she’s hopeless.

That said, if Bette was a true liberal friend, she’d give Nancy Pelosi the name of her face guy. Except it may be too late. Pelosi already has that amphibian thing going on…unfortunately that’s both inside and out.

marybel on September 30, 2009 at 8:43 PM

Good! That means we can throw Bette in jail for opening her yap.

Anyone recall that Bette Midler in her autobiography accused Geraldo Rivera of raping her?

Rivera was outraged, threatened to sue her and Midler retracted the claim.

The sex, she admitted (ugh), was consensual.

Cattiness break:

Bette, Bette, that is one nasty plastic surgery job! You’re not fooling anyone, Babe. Everyone ages, get over it and age gracefully.

obladioblada on September 30, 2009 at 8:55 PM

Chosen, what I’m sayin’ is that: if you’re gonna, as you say, “knife your face up,” it’s better to do it with a class act surgeon who won’t make you look all snakey facey…like San Fran Nan.

marybel on September 30, 2009 at 8:57 PM

I can’t think of two more irrelevant people in the political spectrum…..

Rovin on September 30, 2009 at 8:30 PM

THIS!!!

I mean really, since when does the opinion of any Hollywood pinhead matter in the universe?

They just don’t like the facts that Glenn Beck is bringing to light.

Did you see his show today? If not, I recommend you set the DVR when it airs again at 2 AM eastern. He just NAILS Valerie Jarret for her inside connections to socialist radicals, being part of a slumlord company, being on the board of the hospital that gave Michele O her gravy contract, and also stands to gain a LOT of money if they get the Olympics.

Whhooooo, huge scandals. If this were Karl Rowe, the state run media would be in melt down mode tonite.

Is it me, or does it seem just the slightest bit hypocritical for Joy to chastise Glenn Beck for “making gazillions of dollars for being hateful” while he “claims to be a clown”…

Um… isn’t that what she does?

Bette and Joy have a combined jabber sense of a turtle.

Texyank on September 30, 2009 at 9:32 PM

We let the left say whatever the hell they wanted for years. We didn’t respond because yelling or obscenity or harsh language “would be wrong” and “we’re too good for that.” Well, spare the rod (so to speak) and spoil the liberal morons.

The left are like children who’ve been spoiled by years of silence, timidity and apathy from the right. They really think that telling them “no” on anything is the same thing as genocide.

This whole episode just confirms that Joy Behar’s new show is pretty much what we expected it to be. My prediction is that the only time anyone will give it any attention will be when Joy or one of her kooky guests says something stupid. Which knowing her will be just about every other day.

Liberalism is a mental disease, exhibit number umpteen-zillion.

Get a grip you blonde bimbo. Conservatives are not knuckle-dragging cavemen that come to murder clueless ‘news reporters’ in the dead of night.

Now, IMHO, you definitely deserve a spell in the public square with a three-foot dunce cap, but that would be the limit.

Dark-Star on September 30, 2009 at 9:54 PM

Estrogen patches, just sayin…and Europeans haven’t been at the tribal stage for quite some time SEE druids and picts GRIN – tribal stage, for example Rwandan Culture. Okay America was colonized by people from Europe, they were already at the ship building stage so that’s described as “Industry” America went through a Pastoral Age or Agrarian, an Industrial Age, and now we are at an Information Age… Is Rwanda as progressed culturally as America? Not so much. Progressives have really poor American History, and Geography Skills. It would be very difficult for America to dissolve into the chaos & mass genocide that occurred in Rwanda. Bette and Joy seem to blame the American Public School system because people don’t know America is just like Rwanda. Not that I pretend to know what goes on in the homes of Joy and Bette, who knows what cultural stage they are stuck in? Turns out The Devine Miss M isn’t much of a ratings bump.

Dr Evil on September 30, 2009 at 9:55 PM

Now THAT’S funny !!!!

I can’t believe I actually clicked on that vid to watch it. The money quote comes right at the end, though, where they dump on the education system as being the reason that there is such a lack of civility today.

Dude !

Really !!

You mean our marvelous public school system (the darling of liberal dreamland) is at fault for Glen Beck? Quick, somebody phone up the NEA and give them the hot tip – I’m sure they’re on pins and needles waiting to hear it.

dissent555 on September 30, 2009 at 10:34 PM

I’m not a big fan of Beck, but since he is right at least %80 of the time I feel the need to say:

This line is ILLOGICAL. But what cay you expect from a semi-porn Singer who destroyed Las Vegas from her stereotyped non-artistic Front Acts?

C’mon, this is just 2 bitter old whores who hate the U.S., claim to be jewish and couldn’t combine to pull a rabbit out of their asses.

Speaking of crazy immoral leftist artists, McKenzie Phillips says her dad raped her on the eve of her first wedding. After a 10 year consensual “Stockholm Syndrome” type relationship, she got pregnant and didn’t know who the father was. He paid for her abortion and she never let him touch her again.

John Phillips, from “The Mama’s and the Papa’s” was a good friend of, yes, you guessed it….Roman Polanski.

I_C on October 1, 2009 at 8:06 AM

For those conservatives who still harbor the illusion that one day Jewish Americans will see the light and start voting Republican, Bette Midler should put all that to rest. She’s hard-wired for paranoia about the right. She would rather vote for and support a politician whose best friends are anti-Semites and who secretly disdains Israel than even contemplate voting for a McCain, Palin, or Gingrich.

If Israel wants to ensure its survival, then a heart-to-heart talk with its self-hating American cousins (plus a visit to the woodshed) is long overdue. Otherwise, Auschwitz 2.0 is only a matter of time.
