Amazing: Palin’s book number one on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble bestseller list; Update: “It is truly unprecedented”
posted at 6:58 pm on September 30, 2009 by Allahpundit
Forty-eight days before the release and she’s already topped Dan Brown’s latest conspiracy-theory casserole at both top retailers. To put that in perspective, note that the book doesn’t even have a cover yet. So much for the Page Six hit piece about demand for her being slack.
No way to tell yet, obviously, whether the monster launch will have legs or whether it’ll deflate a bit next week after Palinistas are all done ordering their advance copies. But if it goes on to become a mega-seller, it’s a game-changer insofar as it’ll establish her unquestionably as the most prominent Republican in America, which leaves Huck and Mitt in an awkward spot before the primaries and presents the media with an interesting choice. Do they try to spin the sales as unrepresentative of her support among Republicans given that plenty of liberals are bound to buy the book for campaign dish and insight into the Palin “trainwreck”? Or do they follow lefty conventional wisdom that Palin would be the easiest person to beat in 2012 and talk up her appeal to Republicans to try to nudge her into a presidential run? (Righty conventional wisdom, of course, is that she’s the candidate the left most fears, but given their expectation of future Couric-type disasters during a campaign, I’m skeptical that that’s true.) Only one thing’s certain: If she hasn’t already been signed to write a second book, she will be soon. “Common Sense Conservatism” by Sarah Palin, perchance?
Update: Prognosis for mega-sales: Good.
HarperCollins will print 1.5 million copies for the book’s first run, the same number that was printed for late Sen. Ted Kennedy’s memoir “True Compass.”
Kennedy’s book, published earlier this month, currently stands at number six on the Amazon list.
A publishing industry source told POLITICO that they “cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.”
Much of the 400-page book is based on journals Palin kept during her vice-presidential run.

People, AnninCA is actually taking YOUR side on parts of this issue, and still you pile on, for no reason other than past grievances. I know most of you are better than this.
I am holding out hope for Ann, as she seems to be steadily coming closer by the day to a conservative viewpoint.

I agree. It’s not bad for someone to be cautious, especially this far out of the 2012 elections.
If she does indeed run, Gov. Palin has plenty of time to make her case to the base and to the electorate at large.
I’m just one of many who believes that she CAN and will do that quite successfully. :)

Really all this talk is cheap! All that matters really is whether you guys brought the book already. This is a chance for conservatives to make a statement to define this year and finish it off well. Think about it, we took Obama’s approval ratings down from 75% to 50% in less than 10 months. The Tea Parties, Glenn Beck, Andrew Brietbart, and now Sarah Palin have defined the real opposition in this country. Let’s go out this year with a bang that cannot be heard with a massive number for the sales of this book. Nothing more will delight me more than for the left, the media and the elite to finally acknowledge that Obama may not be the center of the universe after all.

Actually, AP,you have consigned Palin to the dustbin of history several times this year then within a week or so she does a Lazarus, you get traffic out of her then the cycle repeats itself…its beginning to feel like a tom and Jerry cartoon.
What you are dealing with here is a politician who defies convention and you are someone who thinks within the conventional box. You mock Frum, Brooks & co yet in the end you inhabit their Newtonian political universe of political clockwork.
Palin appeared from out of the blue for 99.9% Americans…within a week she had a huge broken glass constituency and that has remained totally loyal to her through the November defeat and beyond it even though she has no organisation and has done very little to deliberately cultivate support. There is currently no Palin machine, her public/media appearances have been minimal, the established media constantly demean her, the DNC have orchestrated and/or encouraged an unpleasant personal campaign against her and her family and most of the GOP establishment both in her own state and nationally have not only refused to support her against these attacks but have joined in the circus of belittling her.
Additionally she has given no indication of how she sees her political future yet, despite that, she still polls 37/55 against Obama..thats a big gap but its not insurmountable.
I am not saying that if she stood for President she would win – nobody knows, including you, AP – all I’m saying is that over the last few months your Palin prediction track record has been erratic to say the least so maybe you should confine yourself to observation rather than prognostication – I’m sure it would be appreciated…

No, they will let Vanity Fair do a distorted review and take their talking points from it.
Sarah Palin is a remarkable person, recognized as a genuine conservative-libertarian unafraid to practice her philosophy. For that reason, she will continue to attract serious attention, regardless of what her future political ambitions may be.

Not now, you say. There’s a lot of ground to cover between now and 2012. The American people can get pretty fed up, pretty quickly, you know. We are witnessing the self disintegration of a very liberal monarchy in less than 9 months today. Nancy Pelosi is supremely unpopular, Harry Reid is in danger of losing his seat. President Obama’s slide in personal feelings polls and his policy favorability is unprecedented. More folks are labeling themselves Republicans and conservative than in many years, and are already a majority over Dhimmicrats and liberals just since the last election. A huge swing in only 9 months. One of the largest grassroots protest movements in American history put Congress on notice that we’re mad as Hell and aren’t going to take their bull anymore. Mrs. Palin’s popularity isn’t enough to beat President Obama today.
So what? His slide is steep and continuing. Her popularity is going up steadily. She may not have the brass ring currently. No Republican does. But the race is in its infancy. President Obama was not even on the radar at this point in the Presidential race. Conventional Wisdom has frequently been wrong. You should look at the Trends and make some judgments instead of assuming things will remain static. Mrs. Palin is the only conservative candidate who appears to have appeal to the masses, even if those masses are not large enough to win a national election yet.
Presidencies are won by building on your mass popularity. She is at the beginning stages, and her momentum is forward, not backwards. Romney, Huckabee, and most other white male RINOs and faux conservatives are generating little or no excitement. And excitement is where popularity is won.
All of us are stupid to try to predict the Republican nominee over 3 yrs before the election. The trend looks good. Let’s wait and see what happens at the mid-terms, and what Mrs. Palin does to help Republican victories there. If she is a large draw, then you can bet that money will follow her flag, and money will bring her success in the election. Whether she runs or not, whether she wins or not, she is still the only possible candidate who brings a real hunger for the job, and a real hunger for her leadership or presence to the party faithful. And that is a characteristic that cannot be bought.
The race may not go to the swiftest or the strongest, but that’s the way to bet. And so far, there’s no Republican candidate who’s stronger or swifter. 3 yrs is a LONG time.

I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE HER. JUST NOT ENOUGH TO BEAT OBAMA.
It would be easy to be dismissive of your comment AP but I am not going to resort to what the Left loves to engage in. Instead what I am going to do is attempt to prove that Sarah is viable as a presidential candidate in 2012 by breaking down where her support will come from over the next 30 months.
But let me take a step back to remind you AP when you run for POTUS the most important thing is to attain the nomination of your own party and not to dwell on a head-to-head scenario against Obama. The names most important to Palin right now are Romney and Huckabee and whoever enters the first tier of GOP candidates.
Even you AP would have to admit that if you had any doubt that Sarah was a first-tier candidate you cannot have any from hereon out from the intensity of the desire to buy Sarah’s book. I’m not saying that Sarah is going to prevail in the primaries in 2012 but she is definitely in the mix as the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, Jets, and the Colts are now in the mix who will win the AFC championship.
Having said that let me project 10 categories of supporters that Sarah have a good chance of picking up along the way or who have already signed on:
1)the conservative wing of the Republican party and independent conservatives made up of gun owners, strict Constitutionalists, Reagan conservatives, the pro-life movement, the Christian or evangelical community (not a monopoly), some libertarians, an array of military personnel, and a slice of the fiscal conservative branch of the GOP; AP, you may dismiss this “core” of Sarah’s support but they total in the millions and for the most part only have disdain for RINO’s or anybody who wants to curry favor or “show love” to the Messiah; I am one of them, We are an ornery but level-headed bunch, intelligent, savvy, totally committed to Sarah and for the most part understand what we are up against in taking Obama out in 2012: Alinsky tactics, the propaganda of the MSM, and the billions held by shadow party members led by George Soros and of course Obama and the Democratic Party. The task is formidable and we know that. Don’t expect any apostasy or proselytization of our members here.
2)The second group will be composed of those who read Sarah’s book and decide they like what they read; basically AP what the book will do is reinforce their good feelings toward Sarah that they had during the campaign, but these folks although mentally in Sarah’s corner but for different reasons were not physically and verbally able to make the commitment yet, some because it’s just too early in the election cycle, others who wanted to see a little more to see if Sarah was a flash in the pan and others who simply when they decide to commit they never go back on their word so they wanted to be absolutely sure of Sarah. For the most part these folks are conservatives but there will be a few moderates that will take the leap of faith as well by spring 2010 after they have read the book.
3)In the next 12 months leading up to the 2010 midterms Sarah will be on full display for all to see as she gives paid and unpaid speeches, writes op-eds and gives interviews. For hardcore party organizaers or big shots old enough to be familiar with Reagan conservatism, this will be an important opportunity for them to assess Sarah to whether she has the talent, intelligence and moxie to communicate her ideas and message with passionate intensity and maximum impact to bring voters to the GOP tent and convince them to get off their duff and vote in November 2010. Many of these party members currently are skeptical of Sarah’s ability to “make a splash” because frankly they do not know her or have never met her. That sounds unbelievable AP but if you remember when Sarah was unveiled on August 29th there were even GOP members of Congress who had never heard of her. I firmly believe that leading up the 2010 midterms Sarah will literally dazzle these folks and slowly and gradually more and more of these folks will filter over to Sarah’s team as they consistently witness consistently impressive performances from her. But there will still be many holdouts especially among the moderates or RINO’s in the GOP establishment who either have committed or soon to commit to Romney or even Huckabee.
4)Another group that I believe will embrace Sarah over the next year or two are libertarians (not the Ron Paul type)who recognize Sarah’s commitment to libertarian-conservatism which many people who know her well assert that she is and not the hardcore socon the MSM makes her out to be; again this will be a gradual process and a phenomenon that Obama and his team are going to pay special attention to if it develops as I think it will.
And sometime along the way once Sarah is able to convince hardcore “border first, anti-amnesty” types that she is on their side many of those folks will also come over to supporting her.
5)Many of the Tea Party folks will announce their loyalty to Sarah if they haven’t already, as we get closer to the 2010 midterms and there is more dissatisfaction and disenchantment of Obama and his administration. Many of these folks are independents who are fed up with both the Democrats and the Republicans. I really believe Sarah can swing the greater majority of them to her side. But I am not going to take that for granted. If Sarah begins to show signs to them that she has abandoned her “rogue status” she could lose them or they may not show up to vote.
6)Going into the 2010 midterms these folks will provide the bulk of her support. After helping to orchestrate a huge GOP landslide victory in the midterms with the GOP perhaps taking back one of the houses of Congress, Sarah will then shortly after attract the types regardless of political conviction who just want to “be on the winning team”. The bandwagon effect I predict will be huge. How much it cuts into Romney’s and/or Huckabee’s support at the time is debatable.
7)By spring 2011 I believe Sarah will be the acknowledged frontrunner and with that status comes debates among her opponents whether to stay in the primaries or to bow out. By the law of averages let’s say there are 8 declared candidates 2 or 3 may bow out by summer 2011 and if any of these candidates are “conservative” I would hazard a guess many of their supporters would be comfortable shifting over to Sarah. Obviously some will also bleed also to Romney and Huckabee.
8)By the fall of 2011, there are two scenarios IMHO-the first that is that it is obvious that Huckabee cannot win and either he leaves the race or he stays in and his supporters (especially evangelicals)begin to slowly bleed away to Palin not wanting Romney to win. Again some will also transfer their loyalty to Mitt. But the second scenario could be where Huck is as strong as Mitt where they fight with each other who will face Sarah in a head-to-head contest after the first 3 primaries. Under this scenario Sarah may not gain much in the party but perhaps some independent moderates who detest Obama may be drawn to her seeing her as the eventual winner but not totally aligned with her philsophically.
9)If Sarah can win early in the primaries much of Huck’s support will IMHO embrace Sarah (she has never has an unkind word for Huck); there will always be a few holdouts among Huck’s staunchest supporters but eventually as 2012 moves along they will come along, even though many of them may still doubt “a woman” can become POTUS.
10)And that leaves Romney’s supporters, many of them elitists and fiscal conservatives but social moderates. They will be the hardest to bring over to support Sarah and quite frankly out of spite may never join Sarah’s team and commit to Obama. Believe me I don’t want that to happen, but really is it that so inconceivable especially with polls consistently that show now that about 20% of Republicans find favor with Obama. But for party unity many Romney supporters will reluctantly declare their support for Sarah as George HW Bush’s did when Reagan won. Having said that whoever Sarah chooses as her VP will go a long way to healing any wounds in the party.
After Sarah is declared the nominee I believe she will also have a good chance to pick up some Reagan Democrats as we head towards the general election.
So in conclusion AP I disagree with you. If what I have written comes to pass I believe Sarah will have an excellent chance to dethrone the Messiah, but it will be close. Yes there may be still enough apolitical Americans and drones in America to tip the scales and hand the election to Obama, but as Chris Berman says, “That’s why they play the game.”

I’m similarly agnostic about Romney’s ability to win more than 5 or 6 states in 2012. That doesn’t mean I know that for sure or that I wouldn’t vote for him if he’s the nominee (I most definitely would).

Yep, that makes sense…Obama proves every day to the independents how they have been hoodwinked. So the beloved and revered press will make mincemeat of any Palin mistake and the “Independents” will rush back to Obama, ralizing why they love him. I am sure there is a universe where that could happen.
As to talking policy, I presume you don’t read much, probably too much effort. This site, the Powerline Dudes, a myriad of other Republican Beltway and “Elite” types derided the “Death Panels” as sophistry at best, stupidity at worst. Even Karuthammer had a week where he was “congenitally stupid”. While this crowd wanted to be Obama-lite, Sarah NAILED Obamacare to the wall. “Death Panels” was dead on conceptually and crystalized Obamacare in 2 words.
But these sophisticates wouldn’t recognize common-sense if it stared them in the face.
I realize you mean “Palinista’s” as a derogatory insult, Thanks for the compliment.

Sarah Palin can talk the talk AND walk the walk. She is a phenomenon; a gift from God for desparate times. Why would she help anyone else become President when she could do the job better by 100X?
Sarah Palin in 2012.

The world needs Sarah Palin – it just doesn’t know it yet.

GO SARAH!!!

It’ll explode anyhow. She’s an ugly old bag with menopause problems
Jeff from WI on September 30, 2009 at 10:25 PM
I like it…
…I think I’ll go in with my tye dye shirt and my old bandana, and plop it down on the shelf. It’ll blow their minds!

I hear she might make a special translation just for the President ….in Austrian.

crr6 can’t be held responsible. Because that’s the way being a delusional shitbrain works. Just wait until he starts living up to the new carbon standards and he quits breathing; then, he’ll be worth a listen.
Until then, not so much.

Although hard to do at this point, maybe my mind will change in the next year or two.

Which is how you know crr6 didn’t think of it.

Who cares if Palin runs in 2012?
From all accounts she was a great governor of Alaska. Well liked and financially sound. McCain pulled her in and all I heard was her inexperience blasted every night, but never a mention of Obama’s LACK of experience.
The press attacked her–the democrats attacked her–even RINOs attacked her. She didn’t deserve the ruthless attacks. So after how many? 15 ethics complaints? She left. All the same people attacked her as a quitter. Did we hear the press call Ellen Tousher a quiter for leaving in the middel of her term.–NO WAY SHE’S A DEMOCRAT.
So I’m sick of all the rhino and dems attacking her. Let her write whatever she wants, let her run for whatever she wants. The system works–IF SHE IS MEANT TO BE SHE WILL OR SHE WON’T.
But please people stop frothing and calm down.
SFTech on September 30, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Hot diggity.
Why would anyone want to see Greg Gutfeld? I can’t wait for the day when we all have home CGI machines. “Here’s Red Eye starring anyone other than Greg…” The late, in his current condition even, Keyboard Playing Cat would be an aesthetic improvement.

What we could see is a revisit of 1980…ie, where both are true. Carter’s term was on trial, but then so was Reagan.
People were concerned about Reagan who had been lambasted as an old fool/retired Hollywood actor.
Once he was able to reassure the people that he was up to the job…well, I’m sure you know the results.
powerpro on September 30, 2009 at 10:47 PM
very apt and true statements, of which I wouldn’t disagree. The second is one of the primary reasons why Palin won’t be heard of in 2011.
disillusioned on September 30, 2009 at 10:50 PM
I may be a cannonballer now bu last year I was cautious. I found out about Palin last summer and did research on her. That was my “dip my toe in” phase.
Now…I’m all in.

J in STL on September 30, 2009 at 10:53 PM
#1 selling book on two major book sellers and the books almost two months away, cover not made yet!
Nothing like this ever been done before,
Nope she can’t make it, she’s a dumb hick, not enough will vote for her, she did a terrible interview… Sarc/
she doesn’t talk pretty like Teleprompter Jesus, The Pinnochio presidente from Chitown she is soo much more of an idiot than OBiden,
every woman that has aborted a child hates and will not vote for her
Do you naysayers even listen to your own pea sized mind farts,
teleprompter Jesus wrote a book no-one bought, can’t speak without his tele and has pissed off everyhone who truely loves or even kinda likes America, hell the FRENCH are calling him a fool.
Palin can win so don’t sound so idiotic!
Hell after 4 years of Pinnochio and the dimwits a three legged midget with a hair lip and a stinky old stockin cap on his head and a drunken woman with a beard for vice pres could probably walk into whats left of the Whitehouse!
dhunter on September 30, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Actually, even though I’ve reserved a copy online, I think I’ll get an extra copy AT the local B&N for the same kind of fun.
Though I think I’ll get a shirt that says “Dissent is Patriotic” and reeeeeeally blow their minds. BWahahaha!!
Ahem. Think it’s time I headed off to sleep. lol
Night all!

I have an idea for an enterprising young entrepenuer.
Make up one of those gumby dolls from the 60 and 70′s.
A half black one of Pinnochio with the gigantic ears, a long nose and a copy of that book Chavez gave him and one of OBiden with a home depot apron and an
“I don’t no shi. but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night”
sign and sell em in the book stores next to the lovely and gracious Sarah’s book or email her and work out a contract to get to free gumby dolls of the current two idiots with a book purchase and campaign donation!
dhunter on September 30, 2009 at 11:07 PM
Have to call bs on this. I’m sure there are groups out there buying this book in bulk. Lol I haven’t heard one person say “man I really need that new palin book”. pure bullsh*******t lol

Oh, yea! Well just you wait until Allah’s new tome hits the stands. Allahmentary, Dear Watson promises to solve every social problem known to man. (Those known to women are said to be covered in volume two.)

I ordered this book on Amazon earlier today. Guess I wasn’t the only one that thought of buying it early. This is nice to see!
