Video: Socialist millionaire begs Obama to destroy his presidency by supporting single-payer

posted at 5:30 pm on September 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

An almost poignant moment of naivete from a guy convinced that he represents some sort of fringe-left “silent majority,” reduced to begging The One to commit political suicide by embracing full-blown socialized medicine because they’ve “got his back” and it would be really “bold” or something. Never mind the polls showing that the public’s already gagging on a watered-down bill; never mind the warnings from analysts across the spectrum that the GOP’s set for major gains in Congress next year thanks to the backlash over government expansion; never mind the fact that, against that backdrop, Blue Dogs aren’t about to fall on a grenade for Obama by agreeing to a public option, let alone single-payer, no matter how much of his own political capital the president might be willing to invest. In fact, at this point, it might be more than just the Blue Dogs who are ready to bail.

Needless to say, I encourage Obama to take his advice, thereby dooming the bill in Congress, confirming the worst fears of grassroots conservatives that the president’s a none-too-secret socialist, and making a Republican tidal wave next year pretty much a fait accompli, but I won’t hold my breath. More likely is that they’re going to try to pass a public option via the back door in the Senate, with all 60 Democrats voting for cloture and then nine imperiled Dems voting no on the actual bill so that they can claim, falsely, that they opposed it. Ace thinks that tactic won’t fool the public given how badly it failed during the amnesty debate, but I’m not so sure. Exit question: Given Ben Nelson’s comment that a bill that passes with fewer than 65 votes will be illegitimate, does that mean he won’t vote even for cloture on an amendment that would include the public option? And if so, where do the Dems get the 60th vote needed to evade the filibuster then? Click the image to watch.

You are one of us. You come from us. It is not the time to desert us. This is not the time to be the representative of the private health insurance industry,” said Moore. “We need you to stand up. Stand up. Be bold. Be brave. Be strong.

I agree, it is time for him to come home, after his weekend with Bernie…and do what his followers demand.
“Save us Obama”, “Deliver us Obama”….

I think Ace is off on this one. The general public is still amazingly uninformed when it comes to the general voting process in the Senate.

Funny the contrast, how Conservative men and women always arrive looking dignified and respectful of such an occasion.

I think it is ridiculous for the Democrats to raise money for future elections if they are unwilling to use the power of their Marxist president, 60 seat majority in the Senate and overwhelming majority in the House to force through all of the things they have always promised they would do.

Moore is so typical of the Hollywood Left. He keeps biting the hands that feed him until he’s the only one with hands. He comes across as hating the system that makes him rich, but he loves it so he can become one of ‘the few’.

Who is that actor who said he’d leave the country if Bush got elected, but never did fulfill his threat/promise?

It’s posturing on their part. I’ll give Polanski a point or two above Moore and that other joker: Polanski gave up accolades among his peers and bailed. Moore and that other don’t have the brass to leave behind what they claim to hate.

Well, some colloquial information here that surprised even me: the other day, ride-sharing with an elderly guy from my neighborhood, he said, when we were discussing (serious, major) concerns about the future of the U.S., he said this when referring to Obama, “he’s not(*) going to re-elected — I know many people who voted for him and they’re really concerned, won’t vote again for him.”

(*) Emphasis, his, who, by the way, is also a Democrat though he says he “usually votes for the Republican” because he’s pro-life.

Terrye on September 29, 2009 at 6:21 PM

The general public is still amazingly uninformed when it comes to the general voting process in the Senate.

Academia, union members, college students, they’re the ones I’d estimate are the most “uninformed” about general voting, etc. They highly charged emotionally about Leftwing social demands, but exceptionally disconnected from many of the voting patterns in this nation — but, unfortunately, so are many in our Senate.

You have a point. I was listening earlier today to a Congressmember from Maine and SHE declared that she’d “not be representing (her) constituents if (she) doesn’t support a public option.”

It seems that the people in Congress from the most vocal on this issue are attempting to rule the nation because they certainly do.not represent the general American public (other states, both parties).

Congressional members from States with higher illegal immigrant populations are pushing for the public option — it’ll allow them to keep those populations, in other words, assure their access to “cheap labor”, unfortunately; once again, that problem strikes out at our country.

Harry Schell on September 29, 2009 at 6:29 PM

I still do not understand why Congress is not approaching this whole “health care crises” (so the Left calls ‘it’) from a solutions-perspective and not a political one:

– fix Medicare to eliminate fraud

– raise reimbursement rates to physicians (this is not contrary to practical sense)

– eliminate fraud in Medicaid
——subset here: stop chain migration which has burgeoned enrollees in Medicaid: extended families import extended elderly who then go on Medicaid among other Medicaid-funded programs

– create portability of private insurance plans among states by allowing private industry to compete for increased customers

– create via incentives to private industry to insure anyone despite pre-existing conditions (even a basic, entry-level policy here; however, others insured will end up paying for the liabilities involved, at least everyone who wants to can be insured)

That’d remedy a great deal of the limitations…and also fix the Medicare/Medicaid budget issues IF Congress would only just address the fraud and enlarged-base among whom are many who are not actually eligible.

That same fellow I was describing earlier (^^) is a very reliable thermostat, so to speak, of his age and income/experience level (middle income, modest homeowner, married, stable guy, Catholic, votes, a veteran, volunteers weekly for at-risk youth, retired salesman, etc.).

He’s also a registered Democrat but he says that’s moreorless due to tradition, not at all due to any faith in the DNC today (so he “usually votes for the Republican” he says — but that means not always).

Compared to me, I’d never vote for the Democrat, to give you an idea of who he is (who I’d deem “a moderate” in the voting sense).

He’s extremely concerned about the country. Says he’s “extremely concerned” and actually says he knows many friends and relations who are, too.
