Video: Hollywood now remaking movies blogger saw in the theater as a kid

posted at 9:10 pm on September 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate, a reminder that our child-rape-supporting betters are really, truly, sincerely out of ideas. How soon, I wonder, before the inevitable remakes of Ghostbusters, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Police Academy, directed by Judd Apatow and starring Seth Rogen as a reimagined “schlubbier” Mahoney character? Maybe get Shaq for the Hightower role? $30 million on opening weekend, guaranteed.

Am I reading too much into the trailer here or does the beginning make it seem as though Freddy, the child-murdering monster to end all monsters, has been falsely accused in this one? Given Hollywood’s face-first dive into the tank for Polanski, I guess that stands to reason.

new Halloween II was abysmal

blatantblue on September 29, 2009 at 9:13 PM

Police Academy could be remade without too much insult to the original.

The others — no way. Remaking the Nightmare on Elm Street series? Didn’t they just make a Freddy vs Jason movie a few years ago?

Robert_Paulson on September 29, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Here’s a remake suggestion: Porky’s.

Robert_Paulson on September 29, 2009 at 9:14 PM

How soon, I wonder, before the inevitable remakes of Ghostbusters…

Relax. Ghostbusters 3 is pretty much confirmed.

MadisonConservative on September 29, 2009 at 9:15 PM

I’ll probably see it and it’ll probably suck. But I’m a slave to horror movies and a glutton for any quality of the genre.

See Paranormal Activity if it’s in your area. It’s pretty darn cool.

Robert_Paulson on September 29, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Good idea, but American Pie pretty much milked that cow.

MadisonConservative on September 29, 2009 at 9:15 PM

This is the same Hollywood that make such anti war (anti American) movies of the past few years.

The talent pool over there is getting very shallow,

William Amos on September 29, 2009 at 9:15 PM

Yep… just like ya could never really Kill Freddy…

You can’t kill remakes either…

Monsters all…

I read there will be a new Ghostbusters movie with the original cast and the script writers are the script writers for “The Office.”

100% out of original ideas. I’ve taken some delight, however, in treating my kids to the ‘originals’ of these remakes….and next on the list is ‘The Stepfather’.

How could they remake THAT one? Classic.

HAnthonyWayne on September 29, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Uhhh, I’m going back to the Polanski thread. This is depressing.

want to know why it sucked?

a) all the weird artsy dream crap

b) — in the first new halloween movie, and older halloweens, he would appear in scenes in the distance, and then in a split second, disappear. none of that occurred in the new Halloween.

Oh boy, I saw some nice breasts

movie still sucked.

blatantblue on September 29, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Dimension films announced the other day that there line up for foreseeable future consists of remakes, reboots and sequels. Expect to see a lot more of this. They’re evening planning to re-do American Werewolf in London.

I also hear that the Resident Evil franchise- only a couple of years old- is also getting the “reboot” treatment.

Jay Mac on September 29, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Another movie I’ll never watch.

notropis on September 29, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Oops- their line up I meant to type.

Jay Mac on September 29, 2009 at 9:20 PM

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I’m pretty psyched about this one. I was skeptical with the G.I. Joe and Transformer re-makes, but they turned out ok. I’ll probably wait until it comes out on DVD, however. The “stimulus” hasn’t trickled down to me yet, so my broke ass will be renting this one.

Tim_B on September 29, 2009 at 9:21 PM

Just as long as they remake Red Dawn.

Bill C on September 29, 2009 at 9:21 PM

So what? Nothing can be worse than Transformers 2.

Topless Robot (these two links SFW, despite the name), pretty much obliterated it with their reviews.

Seriously:
Could you sum up the film in one line of its dialogue?
“I am standing directly beneath the enemy’s scrotum.”

CPL 310 on September 29, 2009 at 9:21 PM

blatantblue on September 29, 2009 at 9:19 PM

Yeah, the dream sequence stuff was retarded and a huge reason for the suckosity. However, we can’t discount the absolute crap acting skills of the chick that played Laurie Strode. I wanted her big bro to rip her freaking heart out and shove it up her butt throughout the entire film.

See My Bloody Valentine for good T&A. My husband totally approved! The movie wasn’t great but had some good gore.

Monica on September 29, 2009 at 9:24 PM

they tried too much to humanize Jason

what was so frightening was his lack of humanity

blatantblue on September 29, 2009 at 9:27 PM

They really are running out of things to make movies about. They are doing a remake of Red Dawn, which should never be redone. I’m sure they’ll make it Americas fault for being invaded.

As long as they leave the John Hughes Classics alone.

Uncle Buck
Planes,Trains & Automobiles
Breakfast Club
Pretty in Pink
Etc.

The Krueger stuff should be left alone as well. Robert Englund mastered the part of Freddy.

portlandon on September 29, 2009 at 9:27 PM

JetBoy on September 29, 2009 at 9:29 PM

Oh please..this this the prequel it is about parents going med-evil on Freddy @55. That plot was mentioned in a previous FT13th flim I just cant remember which.

I am waiting for the 197# prequel version, in which a monster rapes a 13 year old child back then and gets extradited today.

I don’t do horror movies lately; I tried to watch some of the ‘Saw’ series as well as ‘Hostel’ and was repulsed. I’ll skip this one too simply because the original Krueger movies were lame.

Now, if some crackhead ever tries to remake “Airplane” then you might just see my face on the front page of most major newspapers.
