Name ‘em and shame ‘em: More than 100 filmmakers sign petition defending child rapist

posted at 8:16 pm on September 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

Most are European and unfamiliar, but among the people whose movies I’ll never watch again: Jonathan Demme, John Landis, Michael Mann, Martin Scorsese, and, bless his heart, Woody Allen, who I guess was forced to sign lest the press seize on the idea of a guy who married his almost-stepdaughter passing judgment on Polanski. Open question to any of these rape-defending turds: How far would you have let Polanski go before deciding that, hey, he probably should serve some time after all? What if he punched the kid in the face when he was raping her? Beat her with a tire iron? Seriously, how far?

Lest you think that this is about anything other than some perverse droit de seigneur for talented artists, here’s how the petition phrases the signatories’ deep moral objection to arresting this guy:

By their extraterritorial nature, film festivals the world over have always permitted works to be shown and for filmmakers to present them freely and safely, even when certain States opposed this.

The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no one can know the effects.

Roman Polanski is a French citizen, a renown and international artist now facing extradition. This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom.

They’re explicitly calling for film festivals to be treated as de facto international waters, above the laws of any sovereign land and beyond the reach of any cop, even if that cop is in the area looking for … a fugitive who raped a kid. And the beat goes on: Polish filmmakers are calling his arrest a “judicial lynching” and a separate petition organized by a French philosopher objects to this degenerate being pinched like, and I quote, “a common terrorist.” This entire story comes back to that word “common,” doesn’t it?

Even HuffPo’s commenters can’t believe there are people on the site defending Polanski. Keep punching yourself in the eye, Hollywood; the blacker and more bruised it is, the better. Exit fun fact: Which poor, persecuted, misunderstood genius once said this?

“If I had killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… f—ing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!”

Update: A Jesuit priest wonders, what if it were Father Polanski who’d raped a kid? “Entertainment, not religion, is the new opiate of the people and we don’t want our supply disturbed.”

AP, so you don’t think that hot 16 year olds are hot?

The honest males here will admit that at least once in their lives they’ve noticed a very attractive female only to be shocked to find out how young she really was.

rokemronnie on September 29, 2009 at 8:38 PM</blockquote

No, I was shocked and nauseated. I get the idea you moved in…

Chris_Balsz on September 29, 2009 at 8:51 PM

In some states the age of consent is 14 and in others as high as 18. So if you’re bumping uglies with a teenager it could be legal in one state and in another state a felony that gets you on the sex offender list for life.

BTW, this is garbage. There is no state under the age of 16 for age of consent and it’s 18 if one of the persons are over 3 years difference in age. Roman was 44.

Rocks on September 29, 2009 at 8:51 PM

More proof that we live in the Age of Entertainment. Probably no one else but a film director could get away with what Polanski did.

Big question: How would this play out if Polanski was black?

Just for the record, I was once hot for a 12 year-old girl, too. As it happened, I was 12 at the time….

Most of us, except Polanski, Woody Allen and other degenerates of that kind, actually grow up. What a concept, eh?

MrScribbler on September 29, 2009 at 8:53 PM

So, the Hollyweirdos must be saying that it would be OK with them if I do the same thing to their daughters! What, they obviously don’t see anything wrong with it, right?

Allahpundit, I can’t improve on your argument and I am grateful for your bracing moral clarity.

I didn’t know the ugly details of the rape until this month. I don’t know how many of the petition signatories think the girl was seduced, but I have to assume as industry insiders that they heard the lurid gossip long ago.

The victim has forgiven Polanski, but it’s important to note that she hasn’t recanted any of her accusations.

Stumping for rapists might be a preemptive practice run for all the future scandals of the MaObama administration. Further, tolerating rapists just might be the gateway drug the Left needs for absolving terrorists (um, I meant man-caused disaster makers, or something) and America-hating anarchists.

The compass is broken.

Western_Civ on September 29, 2009 at 8:55 PM

Polanski has a track record of pedophile rape with young girls.

Samantha Gailey was THIRTEEN when he drugged and RAPED her.

Nastassja Kinski was FIFTEEN when he RAPED her.

This sick, perverted PEDOPHILE RAPIST needs to spend the rest of his miserable, pathetic life behind bars, most deservedly as some hairy 350 lb. bubba’s “b1tch”.

If you’ve every read any of these online support groups for people who were molested as children, it is not uncommon for child sexual abusers to infiltrate them.

They attempt to redirect the discussion to bogus arguments that age is relative and the age of consent is arbitrary, etc etc. They always reveal themselves in the end.

Ace:

Oh, and also incidentally — his legal team floated the defense that the girl wasn’t a virgin before he raped her, so he was willing to go full-on Whore Deserved Exactly What She Got on the little girl he raped.

His defenders don’t talk much about his artistry in that respect.

And he drugged her, and even as she resisted, he raped her. And then, figuring, I guess, “Ah, what the hell, gone this far, might as well run the table,” he sodomized her.

13.

But he made The Pianist. So — no biggie.

Two interesting Frenchies not on the list: Luc Besson and Pierre Morel, the guys behind the movie Taken. Maybe making a movie about sexually exploiting young women will get you on the right side of this debate.

Of course, they may jump on the pedophile bandwagon later on…

I wonder what the daughters of these Hollywood $hitbags think of their daddies now.

Domenica is safe.

Martin Scorsese? I’m certainly not going to update my DVD copies of Goodfellas and Casino to blu ray…instead I’ll put them up for trade on swaptree. And thanks to Terry Gilliam defending a soulless piece of crap, I’ll never watch Monty Python, Time Bandits, or Twelve Monkeys ever again.

I am relieved that Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, and Bryan Singer didn’t appear on the list.

From his defenders in the media and the elite to his few defenders here… WTF?

Seriously, this kind of thing makes the imams referring to women as “uncovered meat” make sense – there really are some people with zero self-control, zero morals, and a desire to rationalize instincts that would get them slaughtered in even primitive barbarian communities.

On the other hand, Terry Gilliam and Buck Henry, both comics, signed on. That means, then, along with the Euros’ lack of attention in America, the whole petition is a F-ing joke.

It is natural that there is a heightened outrage because of the young age of this criminal’s victim, but last I heard from all sorts of feminists (now curiously silent) if the lady says NO, no matter what her age, and you force yourself on her, it is rape. Or is that no longer operative?

Hollywood wants to bring all of us down to its level. They just decided to start with liberal Democrats because there would obviously be much less far to go.

Bishop on September 29, 2009 at 9:26 PM

From IMDB, Harrison Ford is a friend and an enabler.

Received his first best director Oscar for the movie The Pianist (2002) five months after the awards ceremony. His friend, Harrison Ford, flew to France to present Polanski the award, since the director would be immediately arrested and incarcerated due to outstanding warrants stemming from his fleeing the US after his 1978 statutory rape conviction to avoid imprisonment. [8 September 2003].

He makes me ill. I’ll retire now.

MalindaH on September 29, 2009 at 9:33 PM

ACORN supported an imaginary child-rapist they were destroyed.

Hollywood is supporting a REAL child-rape rapist. I love to see what’s going to happen to them.

Scorscese is now defending a PEDOPHILE CHILD RAPIST?

SCREW THAT SICKO PERVERT AND HIS MOVIES!

bannedbyhuffpo on September 29, 2009 at 9:34 PM

I wonder if these people supported Susan Atkins bid to be for “compassionate release” b/c she was dying of cancer and had already served nearly 40 yrs. for Sharon Tate’s murder? I mean it did happen a loonnnnnnggggg time ago! How’d Polanski feel about her request I wonder?

But… f—ing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!”

No, f—ing 13-year-old girls never crossed my mind.

Good on Jewel — she’s kind of a kumbaya, one world girl, but showing sense here.

mockmook on September 29, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Hippy, artsy, or kumbaya type doesn’t mean they defend rapists. The child-rapists and supporters are just that. They’re hiding behind their “international extraterritorial art” as a way to gain elite status and allow them to rape children. It’s about power and their ability to do whatever they’d like to with no repercussions – and they condemn traditional morality at the same time because it’s a restriction on their villainy.

Glad to hear Jewel say something against it. I wonder if Tori Amos or Alanis Morrisette have anything similar to voice?

So sad to find out John Landis, Terry Gilliam, and Michael Mann are human colostomy bags rather than talented film makers.

ElectricPhase on September 29, 2009 at 9:10 PM

Wht do you have to insult colostomy bags in such a callous manner?

NY Conservative on September 29, 2009 at 9:38 PM

The freedom of the raped girl mean nothing? Amazing how insensitive and cold hearted the elite of cinema can be. No wonder the stuff they crank out is so lifeless.

Please tell me you’re not around other peoples daughters. Or do you see your own in the same manner? Sick if you really think everyone is like you and would find those impulses natural.

PS, a lot of people might find themselves with a natural impulse to kill someone who might harm their children. Them they restrain themselves.

Waiting for Sarah Palin to “go rogue” on this topic on Facebook.

It’s a hanging curveball, waist-high, middle of the plate.

Claud Lanzmann?!!
Lanzmann was the creative genius behind the ’80′s holocaust documentary ‘Shoah’.
For Shame.

I do not really understand why the arrest of Polanski warrants 4 different threads in 2 days.
