RNC ad: “Dictionary”

posted at 4:52 pm on September 28, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The RNC has a new web ad in response to Barack Obama’s fumble with George Stephanopoulos over the definition of the word “tax”. As their ad argues, Obama and his Democratic colleagues Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid should have an intimate familiarity with the word, since the ObamaCare proposal has eight new taxes embedded into it. One of those taxes will apply to medical supplies and emerging technology, which will discourage innovation and better therapies:

I like it. They should also include Ezekiel Emanuels thoughts on healthcare too.

The most effective part of the ad for the GOP is when Obama talks. The more this guy talks, the shorter his polltical career will be. And the good part, he likes to talk on TV a lot.

WashJeff on September 28, 2009 at 5:00 PM

It would have been better if they mentioned that you could go to jail if you don’t buy health care insurance…

Seven Percent Solution on September 28, 2009 at 5:00 PM

Talk about being taxed for just existing. That is what his “mandate” for all to have insurance is. The only way to avoid it is to be dead.

Patriot Vet on September 28, 2009 at 5:01 PM

This ad is a keeper.

CarolynM on September 28, 2009 at 5:02 PM

Graphics could be improved a bit to make it a bit more professional. Otherwise, a solid ad.

They should keep beating on Health Care Mandate and rising costs because of Obamacare until a five year old could recite it.

nyx on September 28, 2009 at 5:02 PM

Great ad but who is going to see it? This needs to be run on every TV channel and on every major web-site.

Hmm.. Clinton had me explaining the term “oral sex” to my children because they paid attention to the news. I can’t even BEGIN to tell you what my children call THIS. Let’s just say that this old woman had no IDEA the number of euphemisms for human procreation out there … All I can say is … wow.

Forget the Clinton days of sexual shenanigans in the White House. This president and his cronies in Congress are well on their way to giving the entire population of this country a lesson in the many ways the government can … uhm … nevermind….

About time the RNC came out with a decent ad – I particularly liked the shots of Pellosi raising her right arm in a Hitler salute, seems somewhat appropriate for she and they.

Now they should put the spotlight on everyone mentioned in Malkin’s book – and then, make sure the ads get distributed and seen by the ever shrinking unsuspecting public. . . .

The message good but as usual, the presentation leaves something to be desired. Are there NO graphic designers willing to do work for the GOP? I would! Maybe they need to put out a call to arms to all conservative artistic types. We’re few and far between I know, but not nonexistent. I know conservatives like to emphasize substance over style — and they should — but never underestimate the power of a slickly packaged product. That’s how we got the idiot in the White House we have now.

Great ad- tying Obama, Pelosi and Reid together is very powerful. But where do these ads show up? After seeing them here, I almost never see them again.

(I would also love to see an ad on the ‘most transparent administration evah!’ w/0′s campaign promises juxtaposed against Reid, et al explaining how Congress doesn’t need to read the bills and that Congress doesn’t have the technology to allow the public access).

One of those taxes will apply to medical supplies and emerging technology, which will discourage innovation and better therapies:

Oh, stop the fear mongering! It’s not like Obama’s “Science Czar is a man named John Holdren who wrote about the potential use of coerced abortions and putting sterilents in drinking water to control the population… And it’s not like his health adviser Ezekiel J. Emanuel wrote “The Complete Lives System” and discusses giving “substantial” medical attention for those between the ages of 15 to 40, while the rest get “attenuated” services. Oh, wait…

RightWinged on September 28, 2009 at 5:58 PM

In case my point isn’t clear, it’s that we shouldn’t be shocked at the discouragement of innovation… when Obama is surrounding himself with people who aim to decrease the population, etc.

I had to add a small touch.

What I like in the ad is where George S. reads from a dictionary and Obama laughs, as if George isn’t some leftist political hack for more than a decade. Never have I seen a POTUS so smug and therefor, in my eyes, disgusting and contemptable.

macncheez on September 28, 2009 at 6:53 PM

I remember during the debate with mccain when he was asked if healthcare was a right or a privilege. And without a stutter he says it’s a right, yet how is creating a mandate by forcing those who choose not to have health insurance be punished by taxation? I see it as an infringement on their rights. Yes we need reform, but government take over is not the answer.

jaboba on September 28, 2009 at 6:57 PM

I would say there’s something funky going on with HotAir’s site. Every new story I go to my CPU is maxed out at 110%. After a few minutes it dies down to something manageable. But if I do anything like scrolling to the top of the page or viewing another site (in a diffent window) and returning – my CPUs max out again. Very frustrating!

I’ve had the same thing happen and sent a note to tips@hotair.com to tell them I was wondering if they are being hacked or something. I’ve had to unplug the computer and restart to bring it back under control. Also have had what looks like some rogue program come up and say I’m being attacked and try to get me to load some anti-virus program I’ve never heard of. Never got that anywhere else but Hot Air. My current anti-virus programs have blocked some stuff while on this site, so I thought Michelle, Ed and Allah ought to know about it. Probably some leftists trying to discourage us from coming here.

They do have a “professional” design team. And as professionals they know that no matter what they do, someone will bitch about their efforts. It’s the 80/20 rule. And – despite the poor font and alignment choice – by the looks of this thread, they’re pretty close to meeting that rule.
