Oh my: Palin “Going Rogue” on November 17th

posted at 6:30 pm on September 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via C4P, the draft was finished a few months early so they’re moving up the spring release date. I was going to make a joke about knowing what grassroots conservatives want to find under the tree this year, but come on. Waiting six weeks until Christmas? Some of you guys will be lined up outside the bookstore a week before it drops.

Pity poor Olbermann, forced to talk about Sarahcuda tonight instead of, say, the New York City terror plot. Again.

Harper publisher Jonathan Burnham says the former Alaska governor invested herself deeply and passionately in the project. He says the book contains fascinating detail.

The 400-page book is the first for Palin, who has been an object of fascination since Republican Sen. John McCain chose her as his running mate during his 2008 presidential bid. The book will be called “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

A huge first printing of 1.5 million copies has been commissioned by Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins.

I’m intrigued by the title, not only because it promises dish about the sniping from McCain staffers but because it hints, perhaps, at her positioning herself as the libertarian alternative to “orthodox” Republicans like Mitt and Huck. Meanwhile, Politico claims that “[c]opy-editing and fact-checking are now underway in a race to meet the crash publishing schedule,” a detail bound to intoxicate liberals eager to find, flag, catalogue and crow about every last typo. Exit question: Which avid audience will buy more copies, the Palin-lovers or the Palin-haters?

I thought she never went rogue? The McCain camp wanted her to talk about Ayers etc. She just did it too early or something.

Speedwagon82 on September 28, 2009 at 8:04 PM

Besides Ayers, I recall in her interview with Greta or Matt (forgot which one), she admitted that she spoke off the cuff at her campaign rallies about the economy.

She said she felt the campaign wasn’t giving the people real answers, that McCain kept talking about “earmarks” and that wasn’t an answer the people wanted to hear, so she spoke more about cutting spending and taxes, etc… She said she did stick to the script, but added more meat to the economic portion.

Agreed. What is it with the Ace commenters…I can see having no love for the Lizards, but I commented over there last Lent when I gave up HotAir commenting, and didn’t seem to get a lot of love simply for being from HotAir. Strange.

jet you are just as bad with Crist. And don’t say you aren’t.

Not even, upinak….I can say nice things about Palin. I say I want to read her book. I highly doubt anyone ’round here would say the same for Crist.

I’ve bought a lot of political books as of late, but I’ve never actually bought one by a politician. This may be the first (and if that, probably last) time. Some of what I’ve read on here and heard on tv (by trash talking libs mostly) “pushed” me to buy Guilty and Arguing with Idiots. Previously? I would have never bought them. Just goes to show, when you start pushing people into a corner…they’re going to fight back. All be it this time with my wallet. I suppose it will be the same with this book, maybe?

Socialists (“liberals”): 30%
Libertarians, real/classic liberals: 40%
Conservatives: 30%

Conservatives vs liberals = WIN for socialists

Palin understands she needs to reposition herself as an anti-socialist independent, not a conservative.

Commenters at Ace’s can use whatever made up name they wish on their comments and sometimes they get quite creative. Sometimes trolls try to cause trouble by using ‘names’ of regular commenters or famous/infamous people, but there is a way to tell.

It’s the funky little alphanumerics in parenthesis after the comment post time that will remain the same for a particular IP addy regardless of what handle is used. Which is how regular readers/commenters over there can keep track of each other and the resident trolls.

It’s often a wild and wooly site, especially in the overnight threads. O.o But it’s one of my regular reads.

Of course I’m in!! If audiobook is read by her, then I can speed it up by getting regular book…should’ve done that with MMs audiobook since it was read by a guy. I confess that has me somewhat stuck.

Beck’s Common Sense has the SEXIEST voiceover for the 2nd part of the audiobook, Thomas Payne. Hard-to-follow.

Need to finish Mark Levin’s audiobook.

Bought “Arguing with Idiots” b/c I screened book format and love it. That cannot be good on audiobook. That, and it will be helpful arguing with “idiots”.

There’s one authored by a British guy, right after the elections, called something like “I have Seen Your Future and It Doesn’t Work” re: Barack Obama. Look it up.

terryannonline on September 28, 2009 at 7:25 PM

Terryann, I agree, but I’d rather see her pecks than Obama’s. Get used to the fact that Palin IS hot! That said, I love her mind, and politics, it makes her all the more hot. Face it, her look is very sexy, and fodder for the neigh sayers. I’m not concerned about her looks, it is the direction she wants to take us in that attracts me. I care not about race or gender in a President, they need to have balls, they are lacking in our current exec.

For those that live outside the USA, please write to C4P and let them know; too many Facebook responses to whatever she writes, so go that avenue and see how they help you.

I am sure that somehow your request may be granted. IMHO more than 1M copies is too little. This is gonna be in between Levin’s and Beck’s (nice display @ Barnes & Noble!)

Dittos.

Also I would add that she is the future of the Conservitive movement. Just enough red tape to keep records, but not enough to get in a man’s way. I like the way she thinks, the way she acts and where she wants to take this Country.

Let’s just take one issue. Energy Independence. An independent USA would be a Colossus. Not just in oil, but in Nuclear power as well. None of this twenty years without approving a power plant, but a goal of two or three a year replacing coal fired plants.

Heady Stuff.

GunRunner on September 28, 2009 at 9:02 PM

You know what I love about us Palin supporters? We are so over the top in our predictions and adulation of her!

I know I’m buying at least 3 copies if I can beat my friends to it but I’m wondering should I buy a copy for my two best Obama loving friends? Would that be well recieved? I wonder because you couldn’t pay me to read a book about Obama but I think he is unqualified and dishonest but one can’t say that about Sarah Palin…

CCRWM on September 28, 2009 at 9:02 PM

I guess in the eyes of the conventional Republicans, you’re rogue if you are a true conservative. That’s how I see Palin, as an individual who doesn’t fit the standard Republican mold.

50-50, I’d say – but we’ll never know, will we?

disa on September 28, 2009 at 9:11 PM

And by the way……guess what Santa is bringing our entire family for Christmas? :-)

And as for adulation? It’s not her per se it’s what we hope we see in her. An articulate “real” person who doesn’t talk down to us. Someone that can actually TEACH the Conservative message.

I personally think she’s wrong on Israel and the PLO. I think Huckabee has it right on that one. I think she also might be wrong on Immigration (not sure about that yet).

And you know what………SHE MIGHT NOT EVEN RUN IN 2012!!

I can tell you if the GOP doesn’t nominate a Conservative (and I’m not talking about having Huckabee as Mitt’s VP either) in 2012 we’re going to vote PRINCIPLE OVER PARTY.

Sarah has camped her legions in the Po Valley.

From Wiki on ‘Crossing the Rubicon’:

“The river is notable as Roman law prohibited the Rubicon from being crossed by any Roman Army legion. The river was considered to mark the boundary between the Roman province of Cisalpine Gaul to the north and Italy proper to the south; the law thus protected the republic from internal military threat. When Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon with his army in 49 BC, supposedly on January 10 of the Roman calendar, to make his way to Rome, he broke that law and made armed conflict inevitable. According to historian Suetonius, Caesar uttered the famous phrase ālea iacta est (“the die is cast”)

A smaller population in Wyoming than Alaska does not mean a less-dense population in Wyoming. I’m going off memory here but I’m pretty sure Alaska is the least densely-populated state, even though it has more people than Wyoming.

Proud Rino on September 28, 2009 at 6:53 PM

Duuuuh!

Alaska is twice the size of Texas! It’s the size of the entire Western United States! OF COURSE it’s not very “population dense!”

I have read some silly stuff before, but this one is certainly in the top 10!

I’ve never been to Alaska, but I have some friends there, and certainly have seen the various TV shows and documentaries that have become so popular since Sarah burst on the scene

Holy crap, anyone who can successfully govern that place can EASILY govern America. Alaskans are very independent people, and that is absolutely the most inhospitable climate on earth. You have to be TOUGH just to live there. To govern effectively, well, you have to be off the chart tough!

Gary….I have been telling folks for months that there is a difference between Alaska and the lower 48 …example ….how many cattle they have in Alaska …….most beef has to come up one road or by ship ……. wonder what it cost …yet they bust on her for hunting moose ….. its just a different mind set and one the folks here don’t understand. Christ you find yourself on foot there you could be a couple week walk away from help

See what one woman can do with a laptop computer?

Or another with a Mosan-Nagant?

Does the GOP shoot rogue elephants (metaphorically speaking)?

Please let her outsell Levin. Heh.

Will the NYT review it or ignore it?

WooHoo! I get to go to Barnes & Noble and make a scene at the checkout again about why they are hoarding all of the conservative books in the back.

Shallow though it may be, “appeal” counts for much in success in life, and politics all the more so. Don’t forget the 1st televised debate between Nixon & JFK. JFK strolled sraight into the WH in no small part due to Nixon being one of the least appealing ever, vs. the young “handsome” JFK.

Jussayin!

Archimedes on September 28, 2009 at 7:36 PM

Ed Zachary!

It’s said that those who listened to the Nixon-Kennedy debate on the radio thought Nixon wore Kennedy out. Those who watched them on TV thought Kennedy beat Nixon. It was all looks for those people.

It’s funny. I tend to agree that many times, beautiful woman aren’t taken seriously. But Sarah Palin is uncommonly beautiful. She also has an inner strength that is unheard of from anyone out there, male or female.

That strength, makes her even more beautiful, BTW!

The rules go away with her. I think pointing out she is a hottie is a plus, not a minus. There is a virility about her that if she was a man, would cause women to faint! Again, it is just co uncommon among politicians these days.

Personally, for me, the turn on is her record, her ability. I liked her way before it was cool to like her, before most knew about her. The more I know, the better I like her!

I have not used my sleeping bag for awhile. Now I can sleep comfy first in line at the Palin book signing, in about ten different cities.

However, I’m NOT going to Fairbanks. My bag isn’t -60 certified.

Dude, it’s gonna absolutely destroy Levin’s numbers in less than a month and then some.

However, Sarah is a Levin fan and both books will be great. I finished Levin’s book a month ago. Awesome manifesto.

Sapwolf on September 29, 2009 at 12:19 AM

Pundon’t, question for you, bozo buddy.

If Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck got together on Beck’s show and said the rosary together, would your head explode?

long_cat on September 29, 2009 at 12:30 AM

I think this book will absolutely be the best selling of the year, even with it’s late year release.

That will be huge when she starts rolling out her campaigning for other candidates.

I’m not sure what the best selling books of the decade 2000-2009 are. But knowing how rabid people who like Sarah Palin are…..

Imagine Sarah being introduced around the world as “Best selling author of the decade:Sarah Palin!”

Think about that for a minute.

Either way, this was brilliant getting the book out this quick!

gary4205 on September 29, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Merriam Webster definition of “rogue
1 : vagrant, tramp
2 : a dishonest or worthless person : scoundrel
3 : a mischievous person : scamp
4 : a horse inclined to shirk or misbehave
5 : an individual exhibiting a chance and usually inferior biological variation

I’m only linking to a reference and only providing context. Odd name for a book is all I’m saying.

disillusioned on September 29, 2009 at 12:40 AM

Letterman thinks she just misspelled “rouge”, as in “slutty flight-attendant makeup”.

Didja see the comments on Politico? The nutbags were out in force. Their favorite comment — and it was a chorus of the same — was that Palin’s book must be a coloring book and come with crayons.

meh.

*Breaking News*

New PPP survey reveals that 78% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Palin’s book.

I looked for a pre-order place at amazon, I couldn’t find one. This book comes out 5 days before I get on a cruise ship for 16 days. I am going to have to make sure my copy gets sent from amazon out to S. Cal where I will be before my cruise. I think I will order extra copies and give them to my idiot friends out there who voted for bambi.

10 reasons why Palin’s book must be attacked by the Far Left:

1)The book is proof Sarah is not an IDIOT. Rational people know that celebrity autobiographers collaborate with a known writer but here’s how the collaboration usually works: the celebrity provides the information, facts, his/her ideas and a rough draft or outline of the book akin to how a homeowner wants his/her house to be built, designed and configured and the professional writer suggests certain ways and means that the book should be constructed as an architect would develop and present a proposed blueprint or master plan to the homeowner to see whether the it will pass his/her muster. If it does not, it’s back to the drawing board.

And with Palin’s book I am absolutely sure that she signed off on the crafting and content of the book by her collaborator Lynn Vincent, including what was included and what was omitted in the final draft.

The Obamatrons and drones in the Far Left may try to insinuate that Palin did not do any of the writing and the information and ideas are not hers. If they do, even the most Leftist pundit or died-in-the-wool elitist will have to run away from this premise.

2)Once Sarah Palin proves to America that she is not an IDIOT, she will gradually become more credible and thus her ideas may become more palatable to the American voter. This is what Obama and his war room fear. Certain voters will still think Sarah is an idiot but they most likely would have voted for Obama and the Democrats anyway, but there are millions of independent conservatives, moderate independents and Republicans with a decent, lucid brain that might will be willing to give Palin a “second look” after the book comes out and she does a book tour.

3)If the sales for her book go through the roof, first Sarah will become wealthier and less subject to efforts to make her bankrupt and secondly her book will be deemed a success that even the NY Times bestseller list will have a hard time not reviewing or ignoring.

4)In addition to #3 the more people buy the book the more Sarah’s ideas become disseminated throughout America and the more they become part and parcel of the American consciousness next year, especially leading up to the 2010 midterms.

5)Presently, with the book coming out on November 17th, the CV is that Palin’s ideas on healthcare as revealed in her book may interfere with the passage of pending healthcare legislation; the word is about Obama wants a vote on healthcare legislation around Thanksgiving (Nov 26)

6)”Going Rogue” may become the Bible of the American conservative movement and galvanize those on the fence or those normally apolitical to get off their duff and to fight Obama or vote the Congressional Democrats out of office in 2010.

7)With the book coming out so early Sarah will be able to use the book as a “passport” to do many speeches, to write opinions on various topics, to converse in MSM interviews about the ideas presented in the book and back to #2 make her appear intelligent and competent. IMHO, as I have stated several times, Palin’s main problem is LEGITIMACY, that apolitical voters and fence-sitters must eventually begin to see her as worthy for higher office or presidential timber.

8)And with the book coming out about a year before the 2010 midtterms Sarah will be able to use the book as a springboard to win voters for the GOP in the 2010 and raise money for herself and the party. Imagine if her book is an astronomical bestseller and then she takes the lower 48 by storm and positions herself as serious full-time campaigner who is willing to go toe-to-toe with Obama in the summer and fall 2010. The Obama war room considers this the “nightmare” scenario.

9)Palin’s book may dwarf any books that Romney or Huckabee have coming out within the next 6 months and give her an easier road to the GOP nomination in 2012.

10)And the strategy of calling Sarah crazy, erratic or extreme may not hold up to scrutiny if Sarah positions herself in the book as a libertarian conservative rather than a hardcore socon or a war hawk. With the book undermining the “idiot” meme or the “crazy” meme, Obama and the MSM IMHO may have a hard time landing any punches on Sarah. Like Reagan she smiles too much and treats criticism as water off a duck’s back.
