Oh my: Palin “Going Rogue” on November 17th

posted at 6:30 pm on September 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via C4P, the draft was finished a few months early so they’re moving up the spring release date. I was going to make a joke about knowing what grassroots conservatives want to find under the tree this year, but come on. Waiting six weeks until Christmas? Some of you guys will be lined up outside the bookstore a week before it drops.

Pity poor Olbermann, forced to talk about Sarahcuda tonight instead of, say, the New York City terror plot. Again.

Harper publisher Jonathan Burnham says the former Alaska governor invested herself deeply and passionately in the project. He says the book contains fascinating detail.

The 400-page book is the first for Palin, who has been an object of fascination since Republican Sen. John McCain chose her as his running mate during his 2008 presidential bid. The book will be called “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

A huge first printing of 1.5 million copies has been commissioned by Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins.

I’m intrigued by the title, not only because it promises dish about the sniping from McCain staffers but because it hints, perhaps, at her positioning herself as the libertarian alternative to “orthodox” Republicans like Mitt and Huck. Meanwhile, Politico claims that “[c]opy-editing and fact-checking are now underway in a race to meet the crash publishing schedule,” a detail bound to intoxicate liberals eager to find, flag, catalogue and crow about every last typo. Exit question: Which avid audience will buy more copies, the Palin-lovers or the Palin-haters?

In her China speech, Palin kept referring to “common sense conservatives.” Here’s a prediction: As part of the book, she launches a movement to reestablish the principles of conservatism away from GWBush and back to Reagan. That is going to be her new label: Common-sense Conservative.

Mallard T. Drake on September 28, 2009 at 6:36 PM

No one in their right mind will run 3rd party and expect anything but disaster.

And Palin is certainly in her right mind. She’s already got the republican nomination wrapped up, and after a few more years of 0bama, anyone with a pulse will be able to beat him.

The haters are going to be so conflicted about funding the pure evil that is Sarah Palin, but in the end will not be able to resist.

Prediction: If it stinks Palin wrote every word of it, but if it’s good, it was all a ghost writer.

Yes, and you hit the nail on the head … “where you’re elected by the people to serve them”.

Palin’s ability to serve them and the state of Alaska had been degraded to such an extent that leaving was truly the best way to serve the people and the state of Alaska.

Does it matter? It’s all gravy.

Just me: She’s moving too fast. Stepping down as Governor was an error. She needs seasoning. She has enough obstacles in her way, and the quitter meme in conjunction with her lack of experience (half term?) will be a tough one to get around. Had she achieved more as Governor, and become a bit more worldly then 2016 might have been a coronation. I’d speculate by that time, even AllahPundit might have been cheerleading for a more Libertarian Gov. Palin.

Don’t get me wrong, If she’s the Nominee in 2012, I’ll be behind her, but considering the reservations I’ll have, it would be a bit like backing any of the candidates from 2008 (i.e. McCain).

Who else might be in?

Romney perhaps.
Huck – Never. Ever.
Paul – Never. Ever. Ever. EVER.
Thompson – What was that ‘fire in the belly’ thing we were talking about?
Newt or Cheney – about the same odds.

Our bench just ain’t deep enough.

Liberals can’t place IED’s like that. They’d have to dig a hole, which would require a government funded feasibility study followed by an environmental impact study followed by a bidding process closed to only unionized companies with 15% of the budget reserved for minority owned businesses. It’ll be years before they bury the thing.

As Bush campaigned as a “compassionate conservative,” which he was compassionate, but not conservative; Sarah will be a “common sense conservative,” which she actually is.

But as I hear Rand Paul say, a libertarian, the GOP platform is one that endorses small government, cutting taxes, and a balanced budget.

Now, if she runs as a libertarian, I’d still vote for her, because nothing coming out of the GOP elite is great. I think she can be the only person to pull it off.
