The omnipresent leader

Much outrage has accompanied the release of a video showing little kids at the Bernice Young Elementary School in New Jersey, being led in a creepy North Korean-style song of praise to Barack Obama. I like to call this clip “The Best Home School Endorsement Video Ever.” Ed Morrissey posted another example of musical indoctrination on Hot Air today, which he felt was a bit more harmless, although it includes lyrics like this:

Obama is the President!
First African American in history
44th president of the United States
The ground has shifted
The world has changed!

I don’t recall many schoolteachers leading hymms to George Bush when he shifted the ground under Saddam Hussein and changed his world. Something tells me no one in the educational establishment would be leading musical worship sessions for the equally historic President Sarah Palin or President Condoleeza Rice, either.

The great HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers” includes a scene where a World War II Army officer is reluctant to salute a superior officer he dislikes. The superior officer gently reminds him, “We salute the uniform, not the man.” Even the less infuriating kiddie sing-along referenced above is offensive to this ideal, because it drills campaign rhetoric about the Historic First Black President into the children. Inducting these kids into the Mickey Mouse Club division of the Obama personality cult will not help them make a reasoned, independent evaluation of his presidency as they grow older. During the later Clinton years, when it became difficult to actually look at the man, the Left lectured us that respect was due to the office he held. Now, we’re told to ignore a tsunami of policy failures, and revere the historic skin color of the man in the Oval Office.

Besides the understandable anger parents feel when their children are used as political props, the Bernice Young sing-along is grating because it’s another aspect of the Obama omnipresence. The guy is everywhere, all the time. He’s been stalking the American voter all summer, muttering the ever-changing details and phony rationale for his health-care takeover plan. Mercifully, he stopped just short of filling our inboxes with spam emails, or dropping pop-up spyware onto our computers. I have a recurring nightmare that the Microsoft Office Assistant will rap on my monitor to get my attention, and start talking about the urgent need for health-care reform.

The omnipresence of our political leadership will only grow worse over time, if we don’t begin scaling back the super-State. Everything in life has become politicized, and politics have become highly centralized. The President, and the majority leadership in Congress, have an increasing amount of influence over every aspect of your daily life – not in a remote theoretical sense, but literally. If the government takes over health care, your body will become property of the State, which will have a vested interest in controlling your diet, exercise, and everything else that might affect your consumption of tightly-rationed medical resources. The cap-and-trade bill puts the federal government in charge of your kitchen appliances and light bulbs. These latest extensions of federal power come after decades of more gradual increases.

Since command economics never work, and statists believe the solution to all problems is more government power, your life will become increasingly dominated by political leaders. Liberals, including most media figures, find this a desirable state of affairs, so they are naturally inclined to revere and worship fashionably liberal politicians. The liberal very much wants the country to be led by a genius who can control the economy, reshape entire industries, and wisely redistribute wealth to achieve social justice. Any Democrat who achieves high office automatically becomes such a genius to them. Of course Barack Obama is a moral, intellectual, and physical superman! He has to be. It’s only natural to feel awed and humbled in the presence of such a being.

The logic of statism assumes that politicians are a superior breed, better suited to run industries than any corporate CEO, and qualified to spend the stupendous amount of money extracted from taxpayers more intelligently than they could. Once the functions of government move beyond essential expenses, such as national defense and border security, the rationale behind every additional tax dollar is based on the greater wisdom of the political class. You cannot be trusted to support the arts, care for the indigent, respect the environment, or do any of the other things Washington spends your tax money on. Soon, you will not be trusted to manage your own health care – in fact, under the Max Baucus health-care plan, you would be jailed for failing to purchase government-approved health insurance. If all of this money is taken from you because you can’t be trusted to spend it wisely, it follows that the people spending it must possess supreme wisdom. Likewise, the displaced private owners of a nationalized industry must be inferior to the politicians who now control it. No rationale for Big Government can escape these conclusions.

The bigger the government, the greater its leaders. The unfortunate citizens of the biggest governments in the last century were told their maximum leaders were demigods. After all, nobody fills their cities with statues and ten-story portraits of ordinary men. Similar cults of personality are forming in modern America… because the democratic election of a government, or the declared benevolence of its nature, do not change the logic of political superiority. People who are intelligent enough to spend half the income of a vast country better than its citizens will naturally seem like fitting subjects for songs of praise, to their most dedicated admirers. Why shouldn’t your children be made to learn those songs?

One aspect I think you should consider for a future posting is that Obama is in our face so much for the purpose of causing Fatigue. Constant, unrelenting propaganda debilitates over time. We encourage people to speak out, to respond to the onslaught with rhetoric of our own. But Alinsky taught to push a negative till it becomes a positive. A negative can clearly be perceived as a negative in the beginning by all parties till exhaustion prevails and one party accepts the negative as a positive (the best deal we could get at the time).

The reason for his omnipresent irritation is that he is forcing compromise. An easily identifiable “Obama Plan” could be rejected, but a constant attack of plans and compromises weary the voter, till finally the process pushes through to be a positive. In a normal debate the discussion ends and one side or the other wins. In Obamaworld, the discussion never ends till the other side says, “Fine, damn it, pass bill X and see where it gets you.” which is functionally the equivalent to winning.

Take, for example, the gun control debate. For literally decades the American public put up with the notions of the left, even though the theory and results were on their face ridiculous (Trigger Locks, Ballistic fingerprinting, The Second Amendment really talks about a State Right, etc). Over time the debate shifted from one level or bullet point to another, completely ignoring the fact that the Federal Government had no role in legislating firearms, that the 1934 Gun Control Act was Unconstitutional and indeed all Federal laws concerning firearms are unconstitutional.

Obama is hoping his pushing, along with his minions, is enough to push people to the point where they can’t fight back. The ruined economy just helps in this aspect. Push till people just say, “Fine pass ObamaCare and see what it gets you.”

Anyway, I do go on, but this is something I would love to see addressed by the Doctor.

Wow. Good job Dr. Z. This post was definitely more direct and written in simpler language than many of your others, and it packs quite a punch for it. This wisdom needs to find it’s way into every Sunday newspaper.

I get into arguments with conservatives all the time who accuse me of being a fear monger when I make the claim that Obama has the distinct possibility of becoming one of THOSE sorts of leaders. Stalin, Hitler, Mao were not geniuses except in that they got others to believe in their vision. The second level of leaders under Stalin, Hitler and Mao actually put their ugly ideas into reality.

We should understand that Obama would have absolutely no problem being that sort of leader.

When we reach that stage another series of questions present themselves and I believe it is those questions that prevent conservatives from seeing the evil that is Obama.

1. We’ve got to roll back the insane interpretation we have of the commerce clause, and make it evident to everyone that “living Constitution” means nothing but “no limits on government power.”

2. I think the young people who form the core of the Democratic party generally love freedom and would, by itself, find the idea that government knows better than them offensive. We need to find some way to make it clear to them that that is the premise of virtually all the policies most important to today’s Democratic party.

Unfortunately for us, we forgot why that provision was in there and decided that it would be harmless and efficient to violate that part of the law.

There was just no place to hide. Madly surfing from channel to channel to try to escape and there he was…on about every third or fourth one. Did watch a couple though and have to comment that he was pompous but plausible with the G20 and most agreeable and comfortable when addressing the CBC. He’d carry a lot more weight with me if I could point to some time actually spent working on something besides the big sell!! He must love the sound of his own voice. Want to bet that he doesn’t spend hours looking at the vids of his speeches?(of course, he’ll call it analysis)

Rob Schneider’s 2001 motion picture “The Animal” comes to mind…Guy Torry’s character, as the token Black, is absolved of all blame for any of his actions or claims merely because he is Black.

Under Obama, we are told that we must absolve Obama of all faults, merely because he is Black. Add to that the Great Leader syndrome that has grown and flourished, the kids songs in the schools being one of the most disgraceful parts of it all, and where are we in Obama’s “post-racial”world?

Obama has all the right catch phrases, and all the right words, and at times does give one hell of a speech now and then….but leadership is about a lot more than giving “inspired” speeches. Unfortunately, in a world with a paucity of leaders, Obama gets a pass.

The sinister part of all of this, is what happens in 2012? Can Obama be voted out of Office without opening the floodgates of the loons and radicals on the Left, the race-baiters, and the fellow travelers? If we disagree with Obama’s policies, and this observer certainly does, all of them, is it because he is Black, or is it because he is a naif, totally out of his element, and totally out of touch with the real world?

Songs to the Great Leader, indeed. Maybe someday, down the road, when Obama has actually accomplished something for ALL the American people, actually saved the world, actually made the tides stop rising, maybe after Obama has freed millions and millions from tyranny, or made all the tinpot dictators abandon their thrones and go into hiding from the weight of their crimes against their own people, then, maybe, perhaps, there might be reason to raise his name in song.

Until then, as for the kids’ songs, it is all too Goebbelesque for any person of reason.

There were songs done during the Great Depression praising the leadership of Franklin D. Roosevelt, but they were bottom-up songs recorded by adults. It was up the population then to decide if they liked them or not. This in contrast, is a top-down effort, where the government, in the form of school administrators, creates the song in praise of the lead and then has the children sing it for them.

That’s the creepy part of this whole thing, the fact that school children are being taught to sing the praises of not just a living president, but a president who at the time of the YouTube video had been in office all of around 30 days. The funny part is, with this coming out now as Obama’s numbers are in free fall and his constant presence on TV grates on more and more swing voters, there are still people on the left willing to defend the school’s actions, even though it would be better for them just to apologize and get it out of the way in order for it not to go into the ledger as another example of Obama over-saturation.

It still amazes me that the liberal left thinks they are so intelligent when most of their ideas either have been tried and are found extremely wanting (i.e.,communism, socialism) or are just downright insane (i.e., pardoning child rapists just because they are “brilliant” movie directors). I think Sarah Palin’s recent usage of the phrase “common sense conservatism” hits home with those of us on the right who are tired of the faux intellectual elitism of a liberal left that imagines itself to be, as you put it, “demigods.”

There’s a reason why our Founding Fathers used the wording, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…” Those rights sure don’t come from fallible men.

Never mind…I get it. If I had a child in school, I’d be looking into home schooling too. But a mom on Beck’s show said that even home school moms have to teach a lot of the social issues in their curriculum too, and she appeared to resent it(don’t blame her). Now I read on the AP that Great Leader says that our kids do not spend enough time in school and wants to extend the school day and school year. Part of his reasoning is that then kids would have a ‘safe place to go’ on the weekends. That philosophy applies mostly to inner city, ghetto kids and it ticks me off that he would apply it to all kids. This guy is some kind of poison with his slanted, narrow ideas and his Obama knows best attitude. I do not possess the words to describe how much I dislike him and his policies.

It would be nice if leaders emerged who said “I will reduce the size of government by 10% durning my first year in office.” I would like to see a 50% decrease in the size of government and an opt out of social (in)security for the next generation. Bama in no way is competent to do what he thinks he can.

He will fail, and the solution will be to apply more pressure to right the failure. The healthcare blitz is what we can expect on every failed idea he wants to implement and succeeds.

As Doc says, plenty in the political class like the idea. It is a heady potion, especially when there are no comebacks or personal penalties, lifestyle changes, etc. for the new monarchial class from whatever they do. Elections become a farce as in Venezuela and Russia. And Iran. Facts are not of interest, as in Honduras or what the healthcare bills really say.

It can happen here and is, right now. The healthcare bill is the first and primary wedge to take control of citizens on a personal level. Breaking and then seizing the financial system was a warm-up, by comparison.

Home schooling circumvents government brainwashing and indoctrination altogether. Any parent who believes their kids are going off to school and only learning their ABCs, had better wise up. Your children must first be indoctrinated at home by the parents, and repeatedly. They need to be able to recognize the very first time a teacher tries to influence them with their own leftist views of the world, and counter them with the opposing ideological ammunition given to them by their parents.

Funny you mention this. My brother had a theory that Obama, being supremely cool at election time, would reach a state of “critical coolness” that he would go through and then from there burn out and fade away like a Backstreet Boy (or hopefully Hanna Montana). So far, he’s been on target — Obama’s gyrations, while easily stirring up Conservative and Independent resistance, have also been agitating his radical backers as well, as his uber-intelligence is not working out the way that the standard liberal thinks it should.

As time goes on, I wager that in 2012 there won’t be much of a base for him to campaign from, as even his radical left backers alienate him due to his loss of awesomosity. This ties into Doc0′s article in that the libs who view his demigod status ultimately have to; they really do believe that one supremely intelligent person running the show will have the most impact, and my personal speculation is that it’s also their secret wet dream: that their own supreme intellect is eventually recognized and vaunted above all others. Upon seeing this failing in front of their eyes, they will most likely dismiss Barack as NOT the supreme intelligence, and resume looking for the demigod who is.

Parents that allow their children to worship Zero the anti-hero (not Dr.Zero, I’m talking zerobama) deserve the useless zombies the progressive schools will churn out for them.

Believe me, as a parent of a kid who is now in his early 20s that the progressives purposely destroyed, I can tell you that these parents aren’t going to like it. These parents, as they age and it becomes apparent their children have been destroyed by the progressives, will become anti-progressive, but only if they are smart enough to put the pieces together.

It’s becoming obvious that conservatives need to push their own education campaign to counter what the progressives have been doing to the school system since the 1960s, but conservatives can’t afford to be as patient as the progressives had been. Change needs to happen now, or we’ll lose yet another generation to the mindless dependent entitlement zombies.

I heard that the text of this chant was sent home prior to it’s use. If that’s true, then either the parents did not read it, they did and approved, or they did not approve but couldn’t be bothered protesting.(or it never came out of the chaos that is the school backpack lol) If it really was sent home then the parents of these children must shoulder some of the blame. I wonder if it was posted on the school web site?

Statism exists partly because it makes some people feel cool. Feeling “progressive” is very attractive to many people. It’s the feeling, not the thinking, that makes a near-retirement school teacher indoctrinate young kids with this “Dear Leader” drivel. I’m sure that she believes there cannot be any bad consequences of something that makes her feel good. (Who cares if the kids enjoy it or not).

“Progressives” also roam about the scenery in great herds. Membership of a herd and gaining the herd’s approval gives them a good feeling. Never mind the consequences of turning off ones brain, letting collective rights always trample individual rights etc etc.

For these reasons alone, statism and statists will always be with us.

Good news! The guy’s omnipresence is really grating on my nerves, especially when the endless speechifying brings nothing new to the message. He seems to think he can sell anything, any kind of crap sandwich, and that content doesn’t matter if he promotes it hard enough.

If I hear him say again ‘the time for action is now’, ‘we cannot afford further delay’, or ‘doing nothing is no longer an option’, I may just put a chair through the new TV.

Ah, yes, we can see government attempting to intrude into even more areas of our lives. But as of yet these bills have not been passed by both houses of congress. It seems to me that, with at least health care, the 9/12 DC TEA Party has had no impact. Congress hesitated after the town hall meetings but now we see Speaker Pelosi reintroducing the government option wholeheartedly into HR 3200 or some new and improved version while the Senate pushes mandatory health care with fines and imprisonment if you attempt to avoid it.

So what are we left with? Our government ignoring the vast majority of the people who are satisfied with their present health care and the majority who do not want a radical makeover of our health care system. But we see is the government unwilling to first fix the problems recognized with Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; programs that are on the very edge of financial ruin. Regardless of the present problems with government run programs, it lunges towards absorbing large chunk of the economy. In the process they will be taking a significant portion of our citizens’ economic freedom and civil liberties away in one fell swoop with their supposed health care reform measures even though our blessed Constitution does not give then that power. We fought a revolution over economic freedom and MLK died to guarantee that all citizens had equal civil liberties. Congress now chooses to ignore the wishes of our present citizens and the sacrifices of those in the past fighting for individual rights to achieve in the future some sort of social equality in an American collective.

So what to do? Glenn Beck said rhetorically that nothing should go in or out of congress. But wishing that won’t make it happened. What did make something almost as egregious and supposedly unconstitutional in Tennessee not happen were citizens’ actions during the 1999 special session of the legislature to pass and sign into law a state income tax. Instead they saw an eruption of citizen anger and the Tennessee Income Tax Revolt of 1999 where the Tennessee citizens disrupted the capital’s functions and outlasted the government. Today Tennessee is still state income tax free. The MSM seems to have neglected to report much on this, so few know about it; therefore go to glennreynolds.com/?p=8 for some details.

With the reported 26,000 TEA Party organizations in our great country, we could make life difficult for those cloistered in DC.

I remember being required to memorize poems in grade school, but they were traditional poems even then, such as If, and Invictus, full of meaning and possible good lessons for life. Back in “the day”, when movies didn’t talk, the secret to success as a vaudeville performer was to keep ‘em wanting more. Work the audience, but leave a big question mark at the end. Made people want to pay to see you again, and again, and again. The One – who is almost exactly the same age as I am – seems to have missed that bit of performance history. At this point, even the people who support him have got to be wanting a bit less – quite a bit. At the point of saturation, whatever message he may be spewing out is lost in the endless drone of his voice on every channel, every day. Makes it easier – even necessary – to, at some point, tune him out completely.
