Quotes of the day

posted at 10:15 pm on September 26, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Although there is more in David’s post – much more even – the main point can be summarized in one short sentence: without Beck, the Obama administration would not have had to deal with any controversies.

Without Beck the far left would not have been exposed.

Many would undoubtedly have liked it to be different but David is right. Beck is the only national figure willing to take on the extreme left and to prove that Obama has ties to them and may even be one of them.

That’s it; it is time for conservatives to stop criticizing Beck and to give him credit for helping the conservative movement take on the most progressive individuals ever to be in charge of the most powerful country on earth.”

***
“But here’s the thing: Beck is a white Jeremiah Wright, a crazy-pants conspiracy theorist whose worldview is rooted in the paranoid teachings of a far-right Mormon political guru named W. Cleon Skousen. Before signing up as a recruit in Beck’s army, conservative Becketeers had better think long and hard about where their affable leader is taking them…

There are conservatives who know perfectly well that Beck is an unhinged buffoon who traffics in crude, ridiculous ideas. But unlike the hapless GOP, he’s popular and effective in the political war against Obama. So these conservative cynics adopt a ‘no enemies to the right’ approach to Beck, even though he’s mainstreaming the ooga-booga worldview of a crank prophet who believed, with the John Birch Society, that Eisenhower was a closet commie.

This is foolish. Not every enemy of Obama is a friend to conservatism.”

Beck is a white Jeremiah Wright, a crazy-pants conspiracy theorist

OK, how many of Beck’s “conspiricy theories” have proven correct and how many of Wright’s have? Beck is sure bombastic, and I really can’t handle his delivery, but I find myself listening anyway.

karl9000 on September 27, 2009 at 8:34 AM

When a tested ideology is fighting for its very existence being nice, considerate, quite and respectful is a losing strategy . . . look where it got us so far. Beck might be somewhat eccentric and even radical at times but unlike others in the fight he gets the job done.

rplat on September 27, 2009 at 8:35 AM

Beck has been right so far – and he is compared to Rev. Wright?

Ridiculous!!!

whatzit2u on September 27, 2009 at 8:43 AM

I said “on racial matters” for a reason. Southerners hid behind the “states rights” mantra to subjugate blacks for decades. The “constitutional” argument was just a red herring.

Pop quiz troll:

Hey troll, Boston had race riots in the 70s right around the same time Atlanta elected its first black mayor. So STFU, oky-doky?

The 1964 Civil Rights Act focused on Jim Crow laws while seeking to minimize the impact in the north. This was the price that Senate Republicans insisted upon in order to help Senator Humphrey and LBJ reach cloture with bipartisan cooperation. In the end, Republicans outsmarted the Democrats and changed the electoral map, creating a Republican stronghold in the South that would be politically favorable throughout most of the twentieth century.

One Republican restriction required that, before an individual could sue under the act, he or she first exhaust state fair employment laws (28 states had such laws – all in the North). Moreover, several amendments attempted to limit the impact on business firms, then largely located in the North and typically Republican constituents. Republicans also dramatically curtailed the proposed powers of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. These
compromises made the bill much more palatable to pivotal Republicans.
Republican changes led Senator Richard Russell of Georgia, one of the bill’s leading opponents, to charge “that this bill is directed at the South and no other part of the country.” The “bill . . . stands as a purely sectional bill . . . Provisions have been written into the bill which draw up a monumental wall . . . (protecting) the states that are north of the Mason-Dixon line.”

The 1964 Civil Rights Act was purely politics, motivated by self-interest and partisanship rather than idealism. The Democrats thought they hoodwinked Republicans into unwittingly expanding their voter base, but in the end, their plans backfired and they handed the South to the GOP. There is no one area of the US that is more racist than another. The Democrats managed to create a more polarized American political landscape.

Exactly. The time for being nice is over, and the strategy of taking the high road has been proven to be a loser time and time again. Trying to reason with unreasonable people like Pelosi and Obama has gotten the Republicans nowhere but into the minority in the house and senate. They have been steamrolled again and again.

It is time to get nasty. It is time to drag the rancid meat the the Democrats are serving out into the light and let everyone smell it. It is time to go after those that need to be gone after, dig up the dirt on them, and shame them very publicly. A Republican won’t get my vote again until the gloves come off and they exhibit the will to win on the Democrat’s ground.

quax1 on September 27, 2009 at 8:51 AM

All things considered, Beck seems to end up on the right side of more issues that Obama does.

OK, how many of Beck’s “conspiricy theories” have proven correct and how many of Wright’s have?

Beck said the government was going to take over people’s computers through the Cash 4 Clunkers program. That didn’t happen. He’s also insinuated that Obama wanted to start his own paramilitary. That hasn’t and won’t happen. So Beck is not always right.

terryannonline on September 27, 2009 at 8:54 AM

Jeremiah Wright is not a conspiracy theorist.

HE IS A FAKE MINISTER OF WHATEVER god HE SERVES. What he says is his theological doctrine … sadly very satanic in essence.

Beck has never pretended to be preacher. He’s just making opinions and investigative journalism … like any journalist should do.

It’s so happened that there are so many “provocative” stories about this President’s story and life … both past and present.

Separate politics from religion, guys!

terryannonline on September 27, 2009 at 8:54 AM

No he didn’t. He pointed out that the government was claiming it owned your computer when you linked to that site – which they were.

The government later pulled down the warning that Beck was complaining about.

Beck never said “The Government is going to take over everyone’s computer.”

Never.

HondaV65 on September 27, 2009 at 8:59 AM

I don’t know about Beck. You know who he reminds me of? Martha Stewart. They were both nobodies till they were thrust front & center on TV in split-second Hollywood timing. i dinna like that kinda shit.

They don’t have to carry arms at this point to be a part of his “Red Guard”.

HondaV65 on September 27, 2009 at 9:02 AM

And there is only one man who is capable of leading the conservative movement right now, and that man is Ron Paul.

Spathi on September 27, 2009 at 12:38 AM

Ya, I’m liking Beck more and more lately. I used to never like the guy.

Southern Avenger explains why Levin hates Glen Beck, and why John McCain would have been bad for the country.

Spathi on September 27, 2009 at 2:20 AM

Paul is useful when questioning our current fiscal and monetary insanity. But he has no potential for leadership of the conservative movement. His minimalist foreign policy, his views on Israel, and his libertarian social views just will not fly.

But thanks for the link. Southern Avenger clearly gets it on the direction of the conservative movement.

terryonline: just because what Beck predicted hasn’t come true yet is no reason to condemn him.

read the GIVE Act about the “volunteer” corps. the bill provides for uniforms. the bill was funded by the Senate. there is alot of money floating thru that bill for the crooks in various Obama pockets. during the summer’s townhalls, one could argue that the SEIU was acting in an enforcement mode.

i am not disagreeing with entirely.

instead of worrying about Beck, i propose we focus on “i’m not interested in victory” Princess-in-Chief.

terryannonline on September 27, 2009 at 8:54 AM

Are you serious?

Beck didn’t pull these ideas out of his ass! He quoted OBAMA in the first example, and read from literature Obama’s Administration put out in the second example.

So if Beck shines a spotlight on Obama’s plans, and Obama then doesn’t follow through on those plans, that means Beck isn’t always right?!

Get real.

He only reported what was actually there.

That ‘could’ have happened – except that it was removed due to Beck’s show.

He’s also insinuated that Obama wanted to start his own paramilitary.

He actually only quoted both Barack and Michelle.

You’re really digging if this is the best you can do.

sherryande on September 27, 2009 at 9:03 AM

terryonline: those Union people who are loyal to Obama/Union first & who came to townhalls with their matching t-shirts so that we could all identify them & be afraid of them as a group could be described as Obama’s “army”.

kelley in virginia on September 27, 2009 at 9:06 AM

I’m behind Beck except for his recent blaming American imperialism, hating the GOP as much as the Dems, and wanting a third party that will doom conservatives. If he comes around on those three things, I’m back to being 100% behind him. Until then, I might be at 70-75% esp. b/c I feel the imperialism garbage is really anti-American (in fact it shocked me that he would fall for such anti-Americanism!). My point is: conservatives shouldn’t just shut up at things that are wrong with Beck — constructive criticism will strengthen his message making it that much more powerful. I will not blindly follow a man I believe is falling into a trap of anti-Americanism.
Hopefully he will correct these mistakes before he loses some of his audience (I’m close to being lost).

terryannonline: are you not afraid of what Obama & Congress have codified to use against us?

kelley in virginia on September 27, 2009 at 9:07 AM

A white Jeremiah Wright? Are you kidding me!

I can appreciate your disregard and dislike for Glenn Beck. I’m not a beck “fan,” and I find him to be a bit “clownish” (which he readily admits to). However, to compare him to Jeremiah “God damn the U.S.of KKK A” is far beyond apples and oranges. You are trying to compare apples with swine.

As for Mormonism, certainly you are not comparing the LDS church, Glenn Beck and other Mormons to Jeremiah “air hump in front of the children while preaching the “gospel of hate” from the pulpit” Wright.

Too far, Allah. Too far.

Virginia Shanahan on September 27, 2009 at 9:08 AM

I have to give Glenn Beck credit for bringing the public’s attention to many things that we may not have known about unless Beck talked about it on his program. He may not be correct on everything he talks about, but who is?

Would 9/12 in Washington D.C. been so successful if he didn’t talk about it? Would Van Jones still be a Czar?

yoda on September 27, 2009 at 9:09 AM

terryannonline:

Dude, connect the dots.

Well then CRG connect these dots: I read the book by Skousen. I like the book by Skousen. I think, like Beck, it is right. WE made progress like we have AFTER the declaration of independence and the creation of the Constitution. It doesn’t make me a john Bircher, although I am on the side of people conspiring together.. Because of Skousen? No.. because history teaches that power loves to hold on to power and it will conspire even with enemies to hold onto it.

IF that makes me a Bircher, color me surprised.

Beck is a white Jeremiah Wright

That’s the most patently insane thing I have read in a quite a while!

No ALLAHPUNDIT; Beck is no “jeremiah Wright”… not at all… matter of fact, he’s doing the job we all should do; calling attention to the bad apples in Washington in both parties!

I agree with most of what is advanced here on Hot Air but that crack at Beck is just insane… way over the line of reason…

IntheNet on September 27, 2009 at 9:15 AM

Beck is not the problem. He is definitely helping us solve the problem. If you have EVER watched his show, you would know that he uses an individual’s OWN WORDS to discredit them, not merely heresay and inuendo. He also admits that he is not a journalist, but I would wager more research goes on behind the scenes at his show than any other network news show.

The Left and the RINOs will once again pull out their playbook Rules for Radicals and try to discredit him. At least he actually says that he hopes he is wrong.

He is definitely a Patriot. He believes in the exceptionalism of this country and is risking everything he has to protect it.

libertylady on September 27, 2009 at 9:16 AM

I love Glenn Beck.
All of this fighting about him makes people on the fringe left and on the fringe right look so stupid.

Glenn Beck doesn’t care if you are a liberal or a conservative….if you love this country. He is an American first.

I feel like I’m back in high school and there’s a new fad. And if I am to be in the ‘cool’ crowd, I better tag along and dump on Glenn Beck.

So absurd. Wake up! It is NOT about Glenn Beck or his personality. It’s about the substance of what he investigates and puts out there. And what he does is/has been FAR More substantial than what ANY news channel, paper, blog has done.

Glenn Beck rocks. And he isn’t going anywhere, any time soon. Yay!

Ya know, after the Revolutionary War, and before the cowards, leftists, sycophants, and PC police came on the scene, we had a few words that described folks like Beck.

“Good old American patriots.”

Now that the lessons taught in our fight to be free are criticized in our government schools, and the aforementioned traitors have taken over our society, we have had to come up with some different words to describe good old American patriots who stand up to them.

“That guy has balls of friggen steel!”

God bless Glenn Beck et al! They re the ones suffering the slings and arrows of persecution so the rest of us, who choose to sit anonymously behind our computers, can ACT like we have “balls of friggen steel”.

Here’s to Michelle, Ed, Glenn, Rush, and the thousands of others who are the faces of our modern day patriots.

Typically, these patriots would point to our troops as the real heroes. And they’d be 100% correct! And our troops would refuse the accolades also. But that is the spirit of true Americans and thank God for it too!

God speed guys! We need you more than ever! The spirit of King George has risen from the grave to enslave freedom loving people once again. And he is resurrected in the persona of Barack Hussein Obama.

MikeA on September 27, 2009 at 10:18 AM

Beck is NOT a conspiracy nut. He has dismissed the birther and FEMA barracks nonsense. Most of his points are right on the mark imho.

Obama is a socialist. It scares me we’re now getting to a point where everybody, including clueless conservatives, is telling me I can’t say that.

I’m Dutch, from a socialist family, studied political science and American studies in Amsterdam, had many marxists professors, was on the Clinton/Gore campaign in 1996, studied 20th century socialism and fascism from primary sources.

Obama is an old-fashioned totalitarian socialist! He’s building on a four decades “march through the institutions”. Bill Ayers and his ilk are the powers behind the throne.

Nothing Obama does is a surprise to me and I have been warning what would happen since long before he even had the nomination. America is turning into a Chavez-style socialist hell-hole much worse than any country in Europe.

Glenn Beck is one of the few who get it.

That is because he has never said it. What he proposes is that we all, Democrat, Republican, Liberitarian and Independant, begin to hold our elected officials responsible for the things they do. And as part of this he proposes that we all begin to take back the parties from the elite and corrupt political class and return control to us. The only reason to form a new party is if the old ones can not be salvaged, or wrested from the grip of the liers and thives who now own them all.

MikeA on September 27, 2009 at 10:25 AM

Socialists (“liberals”): 30%
Libertarians, real/classic liberals: 40%
Conservatives: 30%

Conservatives vs liberals = WIN for socialists

Glenn Beck understands that libertarians and independents are the base for an effective opposition against the Obamacrats, not the clueless conservatives who even refuse to use the s-word.

The political debate needs to shift to liberty vs socialism.

mizflame98,

It has been an uphill battle, but this isn’t something anyone could have predicted, even two years ago. It is heart breaking. Twelve of my friends are on “The Wall.”

And now communism is “cool?”

Star20 on September 27, 2009 at 12:50 AM

It’s cool because of the propaganda put out by the progressives. They and the communists have waged war against anyone who believes in this republic. Add to that the infiltration in our schools, history departments, book publishing companies, media, etc. When you own the information outlets, you dictate to our children what is acceptable and what is not. That is why our kids believe that Washington = dead white slave owner & Che = cool & romantic freedom fighter.
The horrors of communism is no longer taught in schools. Our nation’s history is also no longer taught in schools. You know, I was talking to my hubby about the Van Jones resignation and my 15 year old wanted to know why he was so bad. I asked her if she knew what a communist was and she didn’t. Well, needless to say, I gave her some reading assignments so she can understand some of the horrors of communism & fascism.
I have a library of books that I refuse to give away that addresses things like communism, fascism, black liberation theology, American progressives, Founding fathers, yellow journalism, etc. I want my kids to never forget the things that have happened in the past and what is trying to be forced upon us now. I want her to have at least a mental fighting chance when the time comes for her to go to college. Likewise for her baby brother. I thought I had some time before I had to worry about them trying to indoctrinate him but after seeing the Obama Youth singing his praises and that movie, The story of stuff they’re peddling to our kids, He even needs to know why our country is great at the age of 4.

RepubChica on September 27, 2009 at 11:06 AM

Such as saying Bush should be impeached. Impeachment is supposed to come about as a response to high crimes and misdemeanors, not a political disagreement. And to say that somehow an Obama election is a good thing, when the man is systematically dismantling the country is going to make some folks mad.

Beck likes to make people mad. He goes out of his way to do it.

That is part of what he does.

Terrye on September 27, 2009 at 11:07 AM

Beck is the only conservative pounding the message home hard, while the gatekeeper Republican political party is hiding in the closet, quivering in fear to attack the Radical and their agenda because they put a PC candidate up there as protection for their evil.

Can Beck be criticized?

You betcha. He’s the worse conservative dresser ever – except maybe for Ted Nugent…

Don L on September 27, 2009 at 11:01 AM

I don’t think Beck is really a conservative. I think he is a libertarian. Levin is a conservative.

Beck’s latest book isn’t doing too shabby either. Number #2 on Amazon.

RepubChica on September 27, 2009 at 11:11 AM

The debate has already shifted. Beck’s Common Sense sold 1 million copies in 4 months. Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny went over 1 million in 6 months. People get it.

entropent on September 27, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Beck’s book is a lighter read.

And for heavens sakes folks, Levin has a huge following on his radio show, he has been preaching conservative values for years. He is a constitutional law expert. Attacking the man because he is not happy with some of the things Beck said is ridiculous. You can disagree with the guy, but to act as if he is not the real deal is just absurd.

He as preaching this stuff long before anyone ever heard of Beck.

Terrye on September 27, 2009 at 11:12 AM

I mean is this what Beck’s impact is going to be: love the guy or we hate you?

And not just on this thread. Every since Levin jumped on Beck for saying we were better off with Obama for president this back and forth has been going on. If you have missed that, I can’t help you.

I think Beck likes the controversy. After all, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Terrye on September 27, 2009 at 11:12 AM

I agree. I just hope Levin could temper the criticism down a bit in the coming weeks and save his ire for the true opposition. He and Beck are both fundamentally passionate about American liberty and are one against statism. That’s enough for me.

RepubChica on September 27, 2009 at 11:21 AM

Meh….what I like about what Beck did was that he deliberately went on a highly Liberal and antagonistic news network to send one across the bow of Republicans. Couric became really flummoxed. A lot of Republicans apparently have as well.

RepubChica on September 27, 2009 at 11:27 AM

There are conservatives who know perfectly well that Beck is an unhinged buffoon who traffics in crude, ridiculous ideas.

So much anger allah. Beck has done much good. Comments like that from the right will not help our cause. It will only give Chrissy M. a tingle.

Do you honestly believe that when Beck said we were better off with Obama, that he did not know that heads would explode on the right?

And btw, Sarah Palin is a Republican and if you want to get rid of Obama and Pelosi and Reid, the only party around to do that are the Republicans and while they are far from perfect they beat the hell out of what is in there right now.

Terrye on September 27, 2009 at 11:56 AM

Unless of course the plan is a third party, in which case you might as well save yourself the trouble and vote Democrat, because they will win if you split the vote on the right. Even Rush Limbaugh says that.

Terrye on September 27, 2009 at 11:58 AM

Do you honestly believe that when Beck said we were better off with Obama, that he did not know that heads would explode on the right?

I’m not sure he really considered it in the course of his conversation with Couric. But so what?

And btw, Sarah Palin is a Republican and if you want to get rid of Obama and Pelosi and Reid, the only party around to do that are the Republicans and while they are far from perfect they beat the hell out of what is in there right now.

You say that because you’re more interested in parties than principles. But the fact is there are lots of people who can get rid of Obama, Pelosi and Reid. They’re called voters. And in fact, Reid looks likely to go next year, not because there are great GOP candidates to oppose him, but because Nevadans are disgusted with him and seem ready to elect a ham sandwich to replace him.

Beck is more interested in principles than parties. Parties will disappoint you, always. Principles will not, ever. Those hundreds of thousands of people who marched on DC a couple of weeks ago weren’t there to cheer on the Republican party. They were there to slap all of Washington upside its collective head. The GOP can make hay out of that sentiment and it ought to. But for many of them, it’s going to require a return to principles that they’ve long ago abandoned, if they ever held them.

Pablo on September 27, 2009 at 12:18 PM

If you don’t like Glenn don’t watch him.

Akzed on September 27, 2009 at 12:36 PM

A Republican won’t get my vote again until the gloves come off and they exhibit the will to win on the Democrat’s ground.

Unfortunately for the rep. party, the number against them is rising but a third party would almost certainly give us o again!

Dr. ZhivBlago on September 27, 2009 at 12:50 PM

Sick of party politics. Glenn Beck, for the hundredth time is not advocating third party. If he was, what party hmmm?

He is interested in bringing Democrats back to its conservative roots and Republicans to its conservative roots. He is interested in supporting candidates who are honest and such…refuses to vote for someone just because they happen to be in the right party.

All this hand wringing is getting annoying. First off, Obama would be absolutely neutered if Congress was cleaned. But everyone is concerned about 2012.

The trick guys, is to convince Americans what it means to be American…and they aren’t going to get the message if we are concerned about parties over principles.

Conservative Voice on September 27, 2009 at 1:11 PM

Jeremiah Wright said, “God damn America!” Glenn Beck is saying, “God damn, America!” I can see why the Crunchy Creep got confused.

Jim Treacher on September 27, 2009 at 2:27 PM

Love Beck. He is shining that oh-so-needed disinfectant, sunlight, on the infected politics in D.C.

Obama and his goons would be much further advanced right now if it weren’t for Beck. The worthless politicians on the right would still not know who the Apollo Alliance is unless Beck had served it to them on a silver platter!

And, in order to solidify my claim of being a Beck supporter, I’ll throw out an opinion that will put me squarly in the “conspiracy theorist nut job” camp… and frankly, I don’t give a damn.

Search youtube for: Yuri Bezmenov How To Brainwash A Nation

Bezmenov is an ex-KGB agent that gave interviews/lectures (not in basements, on legitimate news shows and at major universities) in the 1980′s where he described in detail how Marxism/Leninism was being disseminated in the U.S. through a process called Ideological Subversion. It describes to a tee what has happened in America over the last 40 – 50 years.

Also, read the recent American Thinker article: From Russia With No Love

It is an excellent article that details the 4 stages of Ideological Subversion. You will recognize all of the tactics used to bring about each stage… they are being used by progressives every day… expecially in the classroom.

Again, love Beck and I firmly believe that Mr. Bezmenov’s interview/lecture should be heard by anyone who wants to know how we got to this pathetic point in our history and what it is that we are up against.

Let the name calling begin.

Beck is the only national figure willing to take on the extreme left and to prove that Obama has ties to them and may even be is one of them.- as posted by Ap

Moreover,
either the GOP mollycoddlers on the left-right-and center either join with Beck & Rush too in the war against these socialist radicals, or the GOP will be rightfully relegated to the ash heap of American History along with the Whigs!

The defeatist mantra that 3rd parties never work, forgets First, the power of freedom loving Americans when aroused to action, and Second, that modern communication technology has endowed the American “MOB” of tea baggers etc with the power to stand-up nose to nose, if not quite yet derail, this destructive socialist agenda that’s being orchestrated by the Democrat Thugs and their addle-minded accomplices. If the GOP doesn’t have the heart or the balls for the fight that is being shoved down our throats, then it’s time for them to get the hell out of the way!

Wright, a crazy-pants conspiracy theorist whose worldview is rooted in the paranoid teachings of a far-right Mormon political guru named W. Cleon Skousen.

The thought had crossed my mind that his trashing of McCain/Palin in the presidential campaign was to give his fellow Mormon Mitt Romney another chance in 2012. Read up on W. Cleon Skousen.

Hey, that’s great except that he has never trashed Palin, during the campaign or otherwise. He was one of her earliest supporters and had her on his show a few times before she was ever nominated. He remains very fond of and occasionally in touch with her, and the feeling is mutual. And according to Beck, in the last election he voted for Sarah Palin.

But you should keep calling him a scary Mormon. That’s good stuff right there.

Glenn Beck is no white Jerimiah Wright. To the contrary, Glenn Beck is very interesting, insightful commentator who is exposing the radical left at work in the Obama Administration. In this connection, Beck’s interviews of David Horowitz are priceless.

I write this as some who who disagreed vehemently with Beck’s very wrong minded assertion that John McCain would have been worse, and I posted my strong disagreement. A McCain Presidency would have served the nation well. In contrast, as Beck’s exposes of the Obama Administration are revealing, we have a radical socialist President in Obama, and we are going to pay a very, very high price for the terrible mistake made by the American people last November.
