Video: The obligatory SNL Glenn Beck parody

posted at 7:40 pm on September 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

Just a few seconds’ worth in a longer goof on Obama’s media ubiquity, but it comes recommended by the man himself. The target here, needless to say, is the now famous “oligarchy” segment, but what makes it funny is the rendering of Beck’s “mocking” voice. It’s high time they devoted to an entire skit to him, although it’d take an exceptionally shrewd writer to do a good job of that. He’s easy to parody broadly — manic affect, lots of conspiracy theories, the chalkboard, something involving animals or lighting people on fire — but I think it’d be hard to do something trenchant. They’re bound to try sooner or later.

The whole clip’s worth watching, incidentally. The Paterson skits continue to make me laugh, if only from shock at the fact that they’re willing to do blind jokes unapologetically, and I’ve made enough cracks about Obama eventually appearing on the Food Network during his endless media tours that it’s fun to finally see that scenario come to life. Exit question: Who does the interviewer from MTV remind you of? And I don’t mean Kristin Cavallari.

They’ll try to “Palin” the truth-seekers. We’re to numerous. We’re too informed. We’re too motivated, and we’re entirely too p*ssed to be deterred.

Reminded me of Drew Barrymore, who, to steal one of Beck’s favorite lines, makes blood shoot out of my eyes every time she talks.

Overall, I thought this was a joke revolving around Obama and his oversaturation of the airwaves. Sure, it wasn’t that funny but SNL hasn’t been that funny for a long time….or maybe I am just getting older.

I think you just saw their “A” game. Beck’s odd and I mostly agree with what he says. Are you honestly expecting some liberal writer of SNL to take the time to do a decent parody when it is so easy to make him into a raving lunatic?

Heck, if SNL is looking for off-the-wall/foaming-at-the-mouth/qualified-for-a-rubber-room-and-strait-jacket parody material, they need look no further than about two doors from their studio, or wherever MSNBC is shooting The Ed Schultz Show.

But if you listen to Glenn this morning, he read an article that was published a few days ago, where the writer said SNL should mock Glenn because he is so effective and needs to be taken down.

BadgerHawk on September 25, 2009 at 8:27 PM

I saw this clip earlier–the parody of Beck. Truth is, Beck himself could be doing it (as a parody), and I couldn’t tell the difference.

What’s lost on these folks is that Beck can laugh at himself. He knows he puts some weird stuff out there. That’s why he prefaces (and suffixes) it with: “Tell me where I am wrong. I *want* to be wrong. Show me where this doesn’t add up.” ….and the problem is, the critics simply can’t.

Unlike others (*cough cough LEVIN*), he’s very honest and considers most others as equals. If he thinks you’re wrong, he just just call you a moron and throw you out. He’ll ask you to explain. He’s true to himself. That’s why people watch, listen, and follow.

Honey brings more buzz than vinegar.

Hey guys, I was having a similar problem here a few weeks ago. Deleting cache didn’t help. For a workaround, try using another browser, such as Opera. Seems to be some problem with how the HA server recognizes our computers, but I’m not geek enough to ID the problem.

Next time Ed resets everything, the problem will likely disappear, as it did for me. Maybe a resetting every so often would be a helpful thing.

Such revolting leftist hypocrisy.

SNL fawns over Obama, then rips the hell out of Gov. Patterson for a real, true disability. Not policy — his disability.

We can’t touch the sacred cow of race — ever! — because it’s such a sensitive topic. And they’re quick to highlight the levels of oppression inherent in America when you are a person of color, but a person who was truly dealt a challenging card in life can get lampooned over and over for his disability.

Sick.

I’m so so so so so happy I am no longer a Dem.

In other words, use Alinsky’s tactic of mockery. SNL just started.

I didn’t hear Beck today, but that’s no surprise to anyone who has been reading MY BLOG.

From L.N. Smithee’s REACTOR on June 12, 2009 in the thread “DAVID LECHER-MAN GOES TOO FAR: Slandering the Palins, Protecting Obama, and “Humor” as a Partisan Weapon”:

Take special note of what Letterman’s writer Michael Barrie was quoted as saying: “I think some of us were maybe too quick to caricature Al Gore and John Kerry and there’s maybe some reluctance to do the same thing to [Barack Obama].”

Think about that for a moment.

Barrie openly admits he has regrets about helping Letterman sock it to Gore and Kerry. He seems to be implying caricaturing both of those Democrats played a role in Bush being elected to two terms, and that was a mistake he wasn’t going to allow this go-around.

(snip)

Perhaps Letterman, Barrie, [et al] are taking seriously what proudly ill-informed ABC sports reporter Suzy Shuster (I never heard of her either, before this) wrote on the Huffington Post on September 23, 2008 (bold mine):

Most of us who read the Post are already scared out of our wits of what this woman could “accomplish,” should she reach the Vice Presidency or beyond. Abortion outlawed even in the case of incest or rape. Global warming research dismissed. Polar bears left unprotected, not to mention moose murder celebrated. But you, Ms. Fey, have the ability, with just a wink and a smirk, to change the minds of millions of casual viewers and even more casual voters, to educate them. [...M]any swing-state voters get their information and cue from you, Ms. Fey, and you need to provide as much of it as one woman possibly can, before the election is upon us and it is too late.
Comedy can cure and comedy can enlighten, but it must be a constant to reach enough ears to change the hearts and minds of this country …

Also worth reading for those who are interested in real-world illustrations of Alinsky tactics: “HOLLYWOOD REWARDS TINA FEY FOR TRASHING SARAH PALIN,” which illustrates how Katherine Harris was similarly skewered by the Hollylefties.

L.N. Smithee on September 25, 2009 at 9:34 PM

More of Allahpundit hating Glenn Beck, it was old when it started. More of Allahpundit slobbering over a fat cow of a leftist, Megan McShamnisty.
When will SNL DARE to do a spoof of Keith Olberdouche or Chrissy Mathews? Not that I will see it, I have NBC and all of their affiliated garbage networks like The Weather and Global Warming Propaganda Channel, the Revisionist History Channel, PMSNBC etc., blocked on my cable. Too bad I can’t block Allahpundit’s posts from my computer and STILL see the valid posts.

Been done, by Ben Afleck. 7 minutes too long, but it has been done.

Blarg the Destroyer on September 25, 2009 at 9:52 PM

The last time I checked into SNL on a regular basis was when they had Norm Macdonald doing Weekend Update, his spot-on Letterman impression, and ads for Larry King’s TV brainless USA Today column. The last time I even bothered looking at it for more than a minute was when Sarah Palin made her appearance.

I knew I hadn’t missed a thing all those years when later that evening, host Josh Brolin starred in the lamest bit I’ve seen on the show since the ’70s, when entire cast and crew was coked out of their minds. It was Brolin and two whoozat cast members playing businessmen calling each other “Fart face.”

That’s it. I’m not kidding. It’s that bad. Watch.

There’s absolutely no hiding the fact that they’re invested in obama. They can’t take a chance in demeaning his character in a skit. It only pisses you off when they try to purport that there’s balance in the satire. libs will say, “Oh, they rip on everyone.”

I’m still trying to figure that one out. But, then again, I don’t think anyone should be surprised because Allah seems to pretty much hate everyone, except for Michelle, Ed, his cats, hot women, and possibly, Darwin.

Still, I wish Allah would explain why he dislikes people like Beck more clearly. I often find myself scratching my head at why Allah is so vitriolic to Beck. I can understand why he dislikes Palin because she is, more or less, an enemy of atheists of all stripes and colors. But Beck? Maybe Allah’s afraid Beck really will incite violence. Idk.
