Video: “Growing Pains” star ready to save America from rational thought

posted at 9:13 pm on September 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s times like these that I wish Tony Danza were an atheist so that we could have a proper theological debate between stars of bad 80s sitcoms. After this week’s post about America’s trend towards non-religion, I figured I owed you guys some end-of-the-week comment fun at the expense of atheists, Darwinists, and all the other racist/sexist/crypto-Nazis in the Kirk Cameron cosmology. Dig in.

Brought to you by the same two guys who think bananas not only appeared on Earth in their current form, but that they are, in fact, a fruit-formed “atheists’ nightmare.” Exit question: Kids can no longer “pray in public”? What?

Blowback

seriously?

there isn’t much rational about evolution.

It’s a theory and not a fact.

I applaud Kirk.

oh, boy. this thread should be fun.

homesickamerican on September 25, 2009 at 9:17 PM

ahh the quest for souls…

i wonder though, will true hardcore social conservatives feel they’ve achieved victory when they can again do things like pray in public schools and display the 10 commandments…or will it be when they see more christian children staying christian?

Cameron seems to suggest thats the goal…that its about our souls, not our liberty. If so, expect opposition.

We actually have a Bible club at the middle school I teach at. Bravo Kurt.

I have an evolutionary rock that I keep on my desk. Unlike the rocks we evolved from, it hasn’t changed in all these years. In a universe that is contingent upon that which came before (the tree is contingent upon the acorn) it’s idiotic that some think we just appeared out of nothing.

Mojave Mark on September 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM

I’m staying out of it. I’m an ex-atheist, current intelligent design kind of gal myself. I’m going to leave it all alone and let the rest of you fight over it.

Why so serious, Allah?

If he is wrong, then you have nothing to worry about, and enjoy the popcorn…

Seven Percent Solution on September 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM

I prefer to keep my memories of Kirk as a junior-high girl’s pin-up intact, so I won’t watch the video, but as for children “praying in public,” yes, in many cases the prohibition against teachers leading prayers, etc., has morphed into students being forbidden to lead their own prayers, forbidden to mention God in a graduation speech, etc. etc. etc.

Crap on Cameron all you want. I give the guy credit for at least being sincere in his beliefs. When you see all of these Hollywood douche bags pretending to be brave by bashing the religious, it’s kind of cool to see a guy who takes a much braver stance.

I don’t blame him. For a minute, it sounded like Cameron was trying to say that the problem is christian children becoming unchristian…

that these socially conservative concerns are not about the liberty to openly profess faith, but rather about our souls. if you’re going to try to make a policy argument that rests on proselytizing, you’re going to run into opposition.

they should stick with the real liberty arguments, not soul crusading in the name of jesus with liberty infused rhetoric.

Allahpundit on September 25, 2009 at 9:29 PM

Correction –

A theory is an observation that is established via empirical analysis. A hypothesis is a supposition that can be tested by means of empirical analysis, but has not yet met the standard of an established theory. Thus, it is debatable as to whether evolution can even meet the standard of a hypothesis, let alone that of an established theory. The empirical analysis of a trans-species mutation is Darwin’s Achilles’ heel.

Allahpundit – you may want to rethink your supposition about Mr. Cameron’s attempt to “save us from rational thought.”

Thus, it is debatable as to whether evolution can even meet the standard of a hypothesis, let alone that of an established theory. The empirical analysis of a trans-species mutation is Darwin’s Achilles’ heel.

That’s where common sense comes into play. Empirical, established knowledge of genetics couple with a growing fossil record and common sense is pretty much all we need. An inability to conclusively prove something that plays out over thousands of years doesn’t mean that it isn’t true… that’s a non sequitur that gets tiresome.

DaveS on September 25, 2009 at 9:34 PM

No, but I’m not aware of any scientists who claim the universe was created from “nothing.” What they claim is that they don’t understand yet how it was created. Which is a lot more sober and responsible than claiming that because (a) *something* happened to create the universe, then (b) everything in the Bible is true.

.

The traditional account of the Inuit people is that the trickster in the form of Raven created the world. When the waters forced the ground up from the deep Raven stabbed it with his beak and fixed it into place. This first land was just big enough for a single house occupied by a single family: a man, his wife and their son, Raven who had fixed the land. The father had a bladder hanging over his bed. After much pleading by Raven the father allowed the boy to play with it. While playing Raven damaged the bladder and light appeared. The father not wanting to have light always shining took the bladder from the boy before he could damage it further. This struggle is the origin of day and night.
.
This is the correct view that is being censored by the Satanic Scientific Establishment. We need to include this in the publication so that our children can have all sides and decide for themselves. Because that is what education is all about. Deciding for yourself. r summin’

Mocking and bemoaning make poor arguments.

Allahpundit on September 25, 2009 at 9:36 PM

You’re misrepresenting the position my dear Allah.

All of the “atheist” scientists most certainly believe that all the matter in the universe was created from nothing. By definition – by virtue of the fact that they deny an intelligent creator – they believe – or rather, shall I say – they have FAITH that all this came from nothing.

That they can’t explain it – doesn’t make the belief any less real.

Christians cannot explain the existence of GOD either – yet they believe in him. However – they embrace FAITH as a part of their religion. Atheism claims not to.

I just proved that all Atheists have to have FAITH in the belief in something from nothing – since they have no way to explain creation otherwise.

Essentially – they have FAITH that an event happened – though they can’t explain it.

The frightening Hawaii/Chicago/Obama/Communist connections.

Did anyone see the opening segments on Beck Mon.-Thurs. this week? Some of the most mind blowing stuff I’ve seen yet. All of these Obama/Czar/ACORN/SEIU/Apollo/Weather Underground/Tides/Communist ties are just utterly shocking, and so deep I can’t even begin to summarize.

Please folks, do yourselves a favor and go to FoxNews.com and find the Beck videos of the opening segments this week.

Very true. The Big Bang may forever remain a mystery. Except to religious people, of course, who just *know* that their holy book of choice explains it perfectly.

Allahpundit on September 25, 2009 at 9:43 PM

And atheist just *know* that their is no afterlife. Atheists can be stubborn too.

terryannonline on September 25, 2009 at 9:49 PM

All of the “atheist” scientists most certainly believe that all the matter in the universe was created from nothing.

HondaV65 on September 25, 2009 at 9:46 PM

That is incorrect.

Allah believes he was created by a Magic Firecracker – bang. It’s possible he was.

faraway on September 25, 2009 at 9:47 PM

Do you not even believe in the Big Bang? I thought most Intelligent Design believers acknowledge it, but have alternate explanations for the origins of life. Is that not true?

So where’s the finish line for his appeal?

Heaven.

Be first in line!

+1

If this was Ted Danson pushing an anal vibrator, he’d be on the cover of “People” magazine, and the adoration of millions would be his.

Say what you will about Kirk, but the kid sticks to his principles, and always has. That counts for something in my book.

Allahpundit on September 25, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Yes, this was certainly a post meant to be a peace offering to the Christians.

Esthier on September 25, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Fine. I’m just saying that atheists engage in moronic arguments too.

Fine. I’m just saying that atheists engage in moronic arguments too. It is not unique in Christians.

terryannonline on September 25, 2009 at 9:47 PM

I agree, I also disagree that it is irrational to believe in God.

Even more assumptions.

Sarah Palin – check
Glenn Beck – check
Allah’s an atheist – check
Same crap as yesterday. Same crap as tomorrow.

Ronnie on September 25, 2009 at 9:52 PM

Openning up an ancient book and saying, “no, HERE’S how life started” is equally irrational.

ernesto on September 25, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Uhm … not really.

Religious folk openly admit that their beliefs are based on FAITH. You have to have FAITH in order to believe the book is true. I don’t know many priests, rabbis, or preachers who will claim they can prove everything in the Bible. All them will admit that Faith is a central tenet of religion. That is a sober reality.

However, Atheism also relies on FAITH – but will not admit it. As an Atheist – you have to believe that the universe and all it’s matter was created from nothing in some tremendous kerblamy that no one was responsible for that just happened by itself caused by matter that didn’t exist.

That my friend – is FAITH – but Atheists won’t admit to it.

So I submit the folks who are honest about their beliefs are a bit more … “rational”.
