Video: Inhofe going to global-warming conference in Copenhagen

posted at 4:10 pm on September 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

What could be more out of place than a Republican in an ACORN office? Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) at a global-warming conference. The leading Congressional skeptic of global warming plans his first trip to the annual conference in six years to act as the “only voice” of opposition, and hopes to force the attendees to deal with rising skepticism about the claims of climate-change advocates:

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said Wednesday he would travel to this fall’s climate change summit in Copenhagen to serve as a “one-man truth squad.”

A noted skeptic of global warming, Inhofe pledged to present “another view” on climate change during the December summit to hash out an international climate change agreement. …

The Oklahoma Republican has long called global warming science a “hoax,” and has repeatedly warned that regulatory schemes to abate carbon and other polluting emissions would be excessively harmful to the economy. He said Wednesday on C-SPAN that passing the current cap-and-trade bills before Congress would result in a tax and be a “ludicrous” idea.

I’m going to try to get Senator Inhofe on one of next week’s shows to talk more about his trip to Copenhagen. He traveled to the Milan conference in 2003, and I’m curious to get his evaluation of his efforts there and whether he impacted the debate there. I suspect that the conferees will not be happy to have dissent in their midst, and the key will be whether they treat this as a scientific question or a political question. I’m guessing they treated it as the latter in 2003, and that it won’t improve in 2009.

Sarah Palin needs to be at his side there when he does this.

She needs to make a definitive statement just like this – to deny the Global Warming Fearmongers … before the next election.

I did too, before I read it! LOL

I would love for him to put together a larger group, and have them go with him. There is a growing number in those who are finding all of this to be a big bunch of bunk, and the only thing it will really accomplish, is making a bunch of snake oil salesmen, very, very rich!!!

Any reason these conferences could not be held on line . Seems far less carbon would be emitted but of course it would not be as much fun.

I pray that Inhofe gets a lot of good prep-time with experts so he can waste the warmists without giving the media anything to mock him with. Warmists are right about one thing – the debate is over… And they’re WRONG. The “science” is indeed in. Man made global warming is BS. “Climate change”? So what, when has climate not changed?

It is too bad, though. It is my understanding that warmer climates would be a great benefit.

If the climate change hoax data were true, the dog would have never eaten it, and everybody would have copies of it proudly displayed. But it was and since they don’t, the only conclusion is the data is faked.

Why the lies?

Want to end the argument quick, continue reading:

To shut down the AGW crowd ask them this simple question? Why don’t we measure the Al Gore swaddling blanket of CO2?

In fact we have done exactly that: In the case of AGW, all the Global Climate Models(GCMs) and the AGW CO2 theory predicts that there should be a measurable hotspot in the upper troposphere. Observations from satellites and weather balloons have been made, and no hotspot has been found.

In a less politicized field, this would have been the end of it.

Romeo13 on September 24, 2009 at 4:14 PM

Good one! Higher CO2 concentrations only mean the same energy will be absorbed closer to the Earth’s surface. But this just makes a thinner but warmer layer of air near the surface, but since the warm air is lighter than the cooler air above it, natural convection will carry the same heat upward into the atmosphere, and the overall average temperatures won’t change.

wouldn’t want to head into that mess alone.

What will come of it? The message has been pre-written: DO AS WE SAY OR THE EARTH IS DOOMED.

I saw where some true believers have found out the Artic Ice cap will not be melting this year. If fact they now admit there will be an ice cap through the summers until 2030 at which time they will set it back another 30 years. Seems we are in a period of global cooling. Just a delay, no doubt, in global warming should not last more than an age or two. If Obama, who is President of the United States cannot get real science, which must be available to him, backing up his claims there must be some other motive. What would a communist do to increase government power. I know, make life too expensive without government help. When do we throw the bums out?

Zelsdorf Ragshaft on September 24, 2009 at 5:56 PM

Why?

foxone on September 24, 2009 at 5:58 PM

I am proud to call Jim Inhofe my Senator. For my money, he’s the best Senator in the U.S. Senate. However, he left out one point: even if everyone reduces emissions, the models (which are lies anyway) only predict a minimal reduction in temperature. So to essentially tax the whole world to reduce CO2 is absolutely absurd. Even if oceans rising were a real threat (which is nuts), it would be cheaper to build dikes around every major threatened city then reducing CO2 emissions world wide.

Christian Conservative on September 24, 2009 at 6:13 PM

Before disparaging Inhofe, please do research his record. It’s real simple – even google will find it. IMHO, he is a good man and I actually contributed more to his last campaign than I did for McCain. And, I don’t live in his state. Besides healthcare, there is no more urgent issue than dispelling the global climate change hoax.

The taxes for both, if passed, will destroy what’s left of our economy and ultimately the country.

Can you explain this more or refer to a source? I’m curious. Thanks.

rrpjr on September 24, 2009 at 6:16 PM

NP…

The way Greenhouse gases work…

All gasses will absorb IR radiation (heat) but only in very specific wavelengths. This is their IR aborption spectrum.

They will then either reradiate that heat, or pass it off thought conduction, or convection, to the rest of the atmosphere, thus the “Greenhouse Effect”.

There are TWO sources of that radiation, the Sun, and the IR radiation the Earth gives off (called Black Body Radiation).

The above chart is a good compilation of the CO2 absorption spectrum, and the other Greenhouse gases.

What you find is that ALL of the IR radiation that CO2 can absorb, is already BEING absorbed. Thus, adding more CO2 will do NOTHING… we will only get warmer by adding more ENERGY in those specific IR Wavelengths.

CO2 IS a Greenhouse gas, but only up to the point where all of that energy is absorbed…. which we have LONG since passed…

Warmers try to bring up Venus as an example of how a high CO2 content can have more of an effect than we have on earth… but what they leave out is that Venus is both closer to the sun (more energy to absorb) and has a higher surface temperature (thus more Black body IR radiation in CO2s IR abosorption spectrum). So, its not a valid example.

CO2 IS a Greenhouse Gas, but adding more CO2 will NOT make things get warmer… only adding more ENERGY will…

The useful way to confront them is to do all you can to stop them in your own country, not travel to some vacation spot on our nickel to be ignored.

A major reason why we’re in the mess we’re in is that no one in the government — and this means you, wimpy Repubs — is willing to go to the mat with the totalitarian thugs.

Because unlike most trips, this one actually has a purpose that lies in the best interest of the USA. In other words, money well spent.

uknowmorethanme on September 24, 2009 at 4:22 PM

It does have a purpose. But does anyone really think he’s gonna get any kind of fair shake??

He’s going to get shouted down and marginalized.

BigWyo on September 24, 2009 at 7:07 PM

This conference will go ahead and make recommendations to world bodies whether we are represented or not. Better to have it at least on record we don’t agree with their pre-conceived conclusions and mythical findings. Pelosi’s gig in Syria was a total waste of taxpayer money. This is a necessary trip. And, if it has to be made I’m glad Inhofe is the one going.

24K lady on September 24, 2009 at 7:12 PM

He is awesome. Period.

Spirit of 1776 on September 24, 2009 at 7:18 PM

Inhofe better watch himself over there. What with being surrounded by GW Religious Zealots. Isn’t’ that the comment that libs often make?

GarandFan on September 24, 2009 at 7:21 PM

OhooHohoho, Inohofe going to the climate meeting! I don’t need to read the atricle, din’t need to watch the clip. All I know is someone should start ordering the body-bags now. Inhofe in a throng of AGW fanatics in Copenhagen will be like Conan the Barbarian amonst the Picts. Blood will be in the streets, as this means war!

I tempted to grab my “popper”,load up with kernals and a cam-corder, hop a plane and watch the show. This gonna be good!

Man ‘O man!

The biggest source of pollution in the US comes from DC!

chickasaw42 on September 24, 2009 at 8:32 PM

upinak, I am totally lost here. Your ‘ostrich’ defense is beyond dumb.

Sen. Inhofe has been screaming bloody murder about Al Gore’s lies for years! He’s extremely knowledgeable on the issue.

It’s not like he’s going to Copenhagen so his wife can get in some rays. (Uh, do they even have beaches in Denmark??)

I would remind you of the oft-quoted remark that evil only flourishes “IF GOOD MEN STAND SILENT”. This is a good man who chooses to speak up and confront those who lie.

He will be on a world stage. He has a chance to bring a spotlight to shine on the ‘other’ side of the issue. This is not your usual Congressional jaunt, upinak. This is a quest for truth.

I, too, support Sarah Palin. But I was hoping her other supporters were a little more intelligent…

grits on September 24, 2009 at 8:37 PM

Thank you Sen. Inhofe for telling the truth. Tax hikes won’t change the weather. Get in their faces Sir!
