The obligatory “Ed Schultz goes bonkers over health care” post

posted at 4:45 pm on September 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Short but, er, extremely sour from MS-NBC’s new leading intellectual light. Honestly, though, this is Ed Schultz. Even on the radio, Schultz gets lunatic.  The difference between that and this is that we get to see his face as he flips his lid, accusing Republicans of enjoying it when people die.  No, seriously:

Hold it right there!  The Republicans lie.  They want to see you dead!  They’d rather make money off your dead corpse!  They kinda like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her!

The best thing about an Ed Schultz clip?  We get to use exclamation points.  If you thought Keith Olbermann was the embodiment of Howard Beale, Schultz makes Olbermann look like Charlie Rose or Jim Lehrer in comparison.  Even the late Billy Mays didn’t work this hard at his pitch.

As far as the substance of the clip goes — what little there is — I seem to recall that Republicans wanted to abolish the death tax, and Democrats objected.  Which party wants to make money off of your dead corpse?

Ed Schultz – the defacto leader of the democrat party.

Rebar on September 24, 2009 at 4:49 PM

What happened to elevating the discourse again?

Wasn’t this the network that threw a shit fit at the notion that Joe Wilson’s momentary lapse in decorum was a national scandal worthy of a week of wall-to-wall coverage while lamenting the “loss of civility” in politics?

And what is with the opponents of capitalism being fat, well-fed little pudgeballs?

Schultz is a POS.
As a ND-I do not claim this deadbeat.
Why he ever had a radio show, I will never figure out.
And when he comes here to our little hunting town in SW ND, he portrays the POS he portrays on the air.
He’s just a natural at being a hysterical POS.

The question for me about MSNBC is whether Phil Griffin and the executives at the network instructed these people to act this way, i.e., to take on a liberal POV, or did they just say, “Do what you want” and it all came out loony lefty times?

Did they tell Schultz, “Hey Ed, go nuts!” or did they say, “Hey Ed, just wing it”.

What kind of ratings does he get? I try to watch what the other side is saying, occasionally. I’ve watched a couple minutes of this Ed show a handful of times and every solid time I am flipping it with 2 mins. He is so disingenuous I can’t imagine that a lefty would even find him credible. He is worse than Olbermann by far, in my limited experience, and I wouldn’t have thought that possible until I stumbled across his show a month or 2 ago.

I’m biased and I know it, but does anyone really watch this guy? How long has he been on the air?

I don’t know how much MSDNC coaches their on-air “talent”. My guess is they intentionally hire the most deranged lunatic fringe leftists they can find and let them have free reign.

The fact that Ed Schultz, Keith Uberskank, and Rocky Madcow are the best they can do speaks volumes about how there is no comparison in the skills of the liberal commentators compared to the conservative ones.

Doughboy on September 24, 2009 at 5:02 PM

Says the guy who supports a socialized health care system system where patients would be told, by Obama’s own admission, to simply take painkillers rather than receive necessary procedures. Where they would keel over and die waiting for a doctor to have time to see them. Where medical breakthroughs would significantly decrease. Where seniors would be told that they’re not cost-effective to keep living anymore.

But no, it’s we Republicans who are the heartless bastards. Because we want a system where people who really can’t afford it receive help, but those who simply choose not to buy insurance aren’t put on the government dole. Clearly we’re evil pricks. Because we don’t want the health care system destroyed and we refuse to see seniors told by a government bureaucrat to go home and die. How evil we are, huh?

As an individual with families members who’ve both succumbed to and survived cancer, I’d like to tell Schultz that he can bit me. But then I wouldn’t want to contract whatever disease the ignorant asshole carries.

They probably picked them because they figure that since Fox News is doing so well with people like Beck, Hannity, and others, that they would go the opposite route and get the “best” of the liberal and progressive side.

Two things are wrong with that theory though. 1) The best on the left are these morons on MSNBC and b) If the country wanted liberal spin they would have been watching the other networks to begin with and wouldn’t be flocking to alternate news sources.

My theory involves a visit to the Violent Ward of the local funny farm, and coming across the first foaming at the mouth, wrapped in a strait jacket, bouncing off the walls of the padded cell loon that they find and asking them after they get their medication “Hey, you wanna host your own news show?”

I mean, how else do you explain the presence of moonbats like Schultz and Olbermann haunting the airwaves?

As far as the substance of the clip goes — what little there is — I seem to recall that Republicans wanted to abolish the death tax, and Democrats objected. Which party wants to make money off of your dead corpse?

Seems pretty easy to answer. Ed’s point is that Republicans want to make money of your death. How? By generating more profits for wealthy health insurance executives and wealthy people generally. Estate tax creates a burden for those same people Republicans are trying to protect.

Contra Democrats: they want to provide insurance to that relative dying of cancer and want to pass on the costs to those wealthy people (through various taxes, including more generally the estate tax).

At best you might want to argue that Democrats try to leverage the death of a few to save the lives of many, and the reverse for Republicans (save the pocketbooks of a few) at the cost of the lives of many…
