Norah O’Donnell: What’s so creepy about kids singing Obama propaganda?
posted at 8:20 pm on September 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Here’s the thing: A few decades ago, I think she would have had a point. From what I gather, inculcating a sense in young kids that the president is a fine, fair, and friendly individual used to be an inoffensive adjunct of basic civics. When and why that changed is unclear — I would assume after Watergate, although O’Donnell says she remembers sending jelly beans to Reagan — but it has. Consider it another casualty of the hyper-partisan age. I do think that some of the conservative irritation towards Obamamania is a reaction to the left’s insane demagoguery towards Bush. Carrying protest signs comparing The One to a Nazi, as so many liberals did to Dubya, is one manifestation (although it’s the LaRouche-ians who are most guilty of that, needless to say). The outrage over the crooning children is another: Knowing that the left would have wet straight through its pants at the thought of some “Bushjugend” singing hymns of exaltation about a crypto-fascist warmongering Christian Taliban Rethuglikkkan leaves few of us on the right in the mood to take the high road. Toss in Team Barry’s own creepy nurturing of a cult of personality around Obama, replete with aggressive recruitment of artists for propagandizing on his behalf, and you have all the ingredients you need for some righteous conservative anger. Click the image to watch.

Why are 8-year olds singing about equal work for equal pay? At that age, their biggest concern should be what’s for dinner.

MadisonConservative on September 24, 2009 at 9:08 PM
Well, I was that age “a few decades ago” – when Ike was President, as a matter of fact.
We did NOT sing songs praising Ike (even though he was kind of a grandfatherly figure to most of us at that age, I think). And I’m pretty sure he would have not wanted us to sing songs about him. Ike was not real big on ego.

“Very good class. Now the first one of you that tells on Mommy and Daddy for driving a non-hybrid SUV gets a big bowl of organic ice cream!”
This is beyond repugnant. The public
educationindoctrination system, the NationalEducationIndoctrination Association and theteacher’sindoctrinator’s unions all need to wither and die. Private schools, charter schools, home schools, whatever it takes. If I had kids (and if I hadn’t yanked them out of public school already) I’d be finding a way.Left Coast Right Mind on September 24, 2009 at 9:09 PM

Reagan liked Jelly Belly jelly beans.
Bush hated broccoli.
Clinton played saxophone.
These were personal traits, each quantifiable facts. These were not policy issues. Everything that comes out of Obama’s White House is policy. Leading children in praise of this man and his amazing policies is a world away from sending the president jelly beans.

Eisenhower was president when I started school and in all my years in school, I don’t remember having any school curriculum pertaining to the president. I don’t even remember having mock elections. We did learn how to do the Virginia Reel and sang lots and lots of songs about America.

Everything that Team Obama says, thinks, does is a lie – and behind the lies are still unknown plans and designs. Gee why am I not comfortable with little innocent kids singing to this creepy, scum bag, Marxist, not born in the USA Commie? In seven months he has almost caused civil war in America…the guy is dangerous and Rush saw it coming over a year ago……………
Cinday Blackburn on September 24, 2009 at 9:12 PM
In all fairness, all the songs about the angst of the 60′s, Kennedy, et al were all done by professional musicians. Not by Union teachers in public schools.
Key West Reader on September 24, 2009 at 9:13 PM
Come, they told me, Barak Obama,
What do you know, I just caught a sneak preview of one of those songs, just recorded by Harry Belafonte…
“Marxists we have heard on high
Lording over all D.C.
And the workers in reply
Echoing conformity.
Glo-o-oria, In Excelsis B.O…”
Edouard on September 24, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Hmmm, would it be way off to start calling Obama and his cronies Chicoms?

-Many hail from Chi-town, or at least use Chicago style political tactics.
Chicoms sure does seem fitting?

BINGO!
My father was a career Marine. My brothers and I grew up knowing what it meant to serve our country while we watched my father do it every day. We didn’t have much money but we were proud of our dad and proud of our country (always – not just for the “first” time like Michelle O is)
“O’er the ramparts red glare / the bombs bursting in air / gave proof through the night / that our flag was still there” – that meant something to us, STILL means something to us. The foundations of this country are really, really breathtaking when you think about it.
The PROBLEM is, Obama never had the privilege of being raised by someone who was proud of America. His father was from a different country and abandoned him by the time he was a toddler. His stepfather whisked him off to a foreign country to study Islam in a foreign school until he was 10. He wasn’t RAISED in America. The seeds were never planted for those deep seated, early convictions about what a great country America is. He doesn’t understand, CAN’T understand what America is really all about. He’s a narcissist who thinks it’s all about him, and can’t even comprehend otherwise.

Far as, far as the curse is found

The glories of his righteousness
And wonders of his love

And wonders, of his love

Key phrase from O’Donnell: They’re singing about how the president has “made our country great again“, That’s the problem Norah! She puts forth the proposition that our nation was not great before the Teleprompter Jesus. Think of everything that follows if you accept that proposition. Cult of personality straight up.

Nyet, Comrade Allahpundit.
As a grade-school kid, I remember watching JFK’s inauguration on (black & white) TV. That was it as far as getting into real — as opposed to theoretical — politics. We learned all about the three branches of government and their powers; we learned about history. We didn’t sing the praises of JFK (or Ike before him, or LBJ after him).
That’s what they did in the USSR for the Great Stalin, what they do in North Korea for Li’l Kim, and what they used to do in that European country that makes Volkswagens for a man known in a Monty Python sketch as “Mr. Hilter.”
And this hymn of praise for Osama Obama isn’t as good as the Glenn Beck song that came out just before the election. Hell, I’d sing that one every day!

I’ll bet the teacher would file a lawsuit if she had to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
All this talk about school in the 60s, I was in 1st grade in 63. Anyone else have to suffer through Phys Ed exercises while listening to a song about getting rid of “chicken fat?” The teacher played an album on a record player in the gym (this was West Virginia, so we had to run the extension cord over to Ohio).
The line that has stayed in my head was “Go you chicken fat, go.” If I ever heard it again I’d do jumping jacks from a Pavlovian response.

I just got home from dinner with my oldest daughter and her five-year-old son. She pulled as many strings as she could this year, and got her son assigned to the newest, cleanest, most orderly elementary school in the county. So, imagine her surprise when she opened her mailbox today and found a letter from the school district informing her that this new, clean, orderly school is still performing below required percentiles, that over 60% of students perform below or far below grade level…I have considered sending both of my kindergarten-age grandsons to a nearby private, Christian school, but didn’t know how my kids felt about it. I do now – they’re all for it, and after seeing this abomination being performed at a public elementary school (and I don’t give a rat’s a** if it was during Black History Month), I’m gonna pick up the applications tomorrow.

When I was a kid, we sang Yankee Doodle Dandy. I believe it was originally meant to ridicule American Revolutionists…but in our great American spirit, we turned the meaning around! Now that was about NATIONAL UNITY!! I don’t think the same can be said about this little worship hymn to BHO. How sad for America.

Michelle’s blog wrote a story about it yesterday and today and at least she gave a hat tip to Smart Girl’s site (who just posted it yesterday). Before you call this “whining”, this is at least the 3rd time (I never said anything before) that I’ve written/linked to a story in my HotAir posts only to have the story appear here days or weeks later with no credit. Can’t say I don’t see your point of view and if you check, you’d have to admit I’ve mended my ways. I, along with other HotAir posters who were frustrated by the news blackout regarding Obama’s ineligibility are actually very confident on several fronts that everyone will hear the news on that subject very soon. So there’s no longer any urgency and I’ve gone back to posting on a variety of subjects as I did when I joined in 2006. Now, let’s see if you’re big enough to admit it in the near future when you find out you were wrong about “birthers”. Deal?

I beg to differ completely. I was in the public schools pre-Watergate and we never sung songs about any political leader. We sung songs about the Nation and our ideals. Totalitarian regimes focus on deifying their leaders. Free people honor the ideals of their country.
