Netanyahu to UN: Have you no shame?
posted at 2:55 pm on September 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Benjamin Netanyahu invokes Pastor Martin Niemoller, at least subtly, in his otherwise explicit condemnation of the United Nations for giving Holocaust denier Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a spot on the agenda at Turtle Bay this week. The Israeli Prime Minister hails the nations that had the “moral clarity” to walk out of the room when Ahmadinejad spoke, which thankfully included the United States as well as Canada. After that, though, Netanyahu spoke as directly as one will ever hear in diplomatic circles:
He’s completely correct, of course. The UN was created with dictators like Ahmadinejad and the regime using him as a mouthpiece in mind — but not to have as an honored guest. The UN was meant to stop regimes like the one in Tehran from talking genocide openly, not to host luminaries of lunacy like the dimunitive Iranian.
It’s a disgrace, especially since it’s clear that the UN has no shame at all.
Update: Sammy Benoit has more approving thoughts on the speech.
Here’s most of the rest of the speech, which is powerful indeed (Update: The entire speech is below now):

Please take notes, Obama. This is how a leader gives a speech at the UN. Your speech was nothing but an exercise in narcissism.

Bibi’s a real true leader with passion for his country. We, on the other hand, have a Rent-a-President. I look forward to respecting my president again once this fool has been booted out.

Which is why we love him, he hasn’t bowed before this joke of a “peace process” like our president would.
Of course, Israelis are serious people, they wouldn’t elect and unqualified leader who hates their country, because it would mean the end of them as a people.
I mean, not that there’s anything wrong with that boys, but get a room.

Yet, the UN will bring about world peace when the good countries give up their nukes. They’re totally on it.
Btw, Germany vows to leave as soon as Dinnerjacket denies the Holocaust. It was France who walked out first. Canada had the good sense to boycott the event altogether. Why should a country as unreasonable as Iran be allowed to proceed with a nuclear program PERIOD?

They’re the real welfare queens. They get as much foreign aid as Israel. They make unreasonable demands while holding us hostage with their oil reserves. Every time we bring up domestic drilling, though, their jihadi lobby intervenes and OPEC magically lowers oil prices per barrel.

The battle in the Middle East has never been about oil but ideology and birthright. Read your Bible, folks. This has been happening since the beginning of time! Our involvement in protecting Israel is an interesting one. We have a unique spiritual link with Israel and Judaism. I heard David Barton from Wallbuilders speak on this. The primary contributor of funds that supported our revolutionary effor was supplied by a Jewish man whose name escapes my right now. Spritually speaking, Israel and the USA are “sisters”. Even Islam knows that or they wouldn’t have the saying, “first the little satan, then the great satan.” If you think this is just about oil, you are sorely mistaken. “I will bless those that bless you, and curse those that curse you.”–God to Abraham. Take heed.
And,hey for all of you oil-users who are thinking they are green but are really OIL-USERS without really acknowleding it (check your make-up ladies). Why can’t we drill here? If you’re worried about spills and other catastrophe’s like that, well certainly technology has come far enough that drilling is safer now than it has ever been. Do you drive a car? Cars use gas from oil drilled in foreign fields. Don’t you realize that their drilling in their lands is just as dangerous to their environment as it is for our environment? Is it just “bad” if the bad affects you direcly? Alternative fuels? GM was developing hydrogen(read ZERO carbon footprint) fuel cell cars before the One took over and canceled the project. How green is our president? And boy was that off topic….
Benjamin Netanyahu: there’s a leader. Wish he was ours.

Whiskey tango foxtrot? What are they supposed to be funding? Sanctions? Anti-terrorism? Blue Helmets?
Are you insinuating that:
a) the UN only acts if they are given money from nations to support them?
or
b) the Israelis need to give people money to get support? Is that how Israel gets people to support them? If so, I wonder where my cheque is.
What exactly are people paying for if they give money to the UN against, say, Iran? Because they need to stop giving the UN money. Because they fail.

Evil vs Good
US vs [pick a despotic country]
The UN & organizations like this can NEVER work bcs when you give membership to undemocratic nations & give them equal footing with democratic nations, you have a disparity that can never be bridged.
I may tip my hat & say hello to people I meet on the street when they are doing me, or others,no harm.
But it doesn’t mean I ever need to really speak to or acknowledge people when I know they do evil things.
If I saw Stalin on the street, I certainly would never say hello to him.
So why do we need to have a dialogue with nations that are evil & destructive?!
Badger40 on September 24, 2009 at 5:12 PM
That’s your opinion from here in America.
ALL of the CHRISTIANS in the middle east call the man a terrorist who bombs and kills their children.
But I suppose you know more about that than they do right?
Netanyahu is a dangerous man who wants to start war throughout the middle east and have us do his dirty work for him.
What we need to do is stay out of this mess and tell the world that we are neutral in this regard.
I know some of you might not like this but this is right thing to do and the American thing to do. We don’t need to get caught up in these “foreign entanglements” and have 90% of the world hate us because we back the state of israel no matter what.
Think rationally. We will instantly eliminate 90% of our enemies because this is their major beef with us.
If Netanyahu wants to bomb iran..fine. But let him do it by himself without our help. This is not our problem.
MaximusConfessor on September 24, 2009 at 5:15 PM
Maximus @5:15PM
I don’t suppose you have links to your sources that back up those charges against Netanyahu, and please no sites that are begging for money from unheard of fringe organizations. News sources, if reliable, would do. And, please do tell, where did you dig up that 90% figure? Sounds like you listen to ‘Bambi way too much and we’re all getting a dose of how reliable his word is.
Everything that happens in that region of the ME is our problem whether we like it or not. I’d also venture to guess more Americans stand by Israel than are behind our current POTUS.
Guess what, I’d like to put Iran out of it’s misery too.

Like a German catholic civilian in 1945 as the stench of human flesh makes its way over the morning breeze.
We don’t have to do the dirty work of Israel. If I remember correctly, the USA did not have any troops on the ground in 48, 56, 67, 73, etc. Heck, I don’t remember our air force flying in the Bekaa Valley either.
Look, as long as the USA exists, Israel will survive.

That would explain perfectly why he undertook a mandate from an organization that has made it its business to do virtually nothing but condemn Israel, why he took seriously the ‘testimony’ of Hamas operatives and officials who depicted themselves as civilians, why he decided that 8000+ rockets and mortars from behind Palestinian civilians at Israeli civilians were a trivial matter rather than act of war, and why he chose to ignore the lengthy and detailed investigations following Operation Cast Lead conducted by the IDF and the Israeli government.
