Dig deep: Hannah Giles defense fund launches

posted at 6:33 pm on September 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s legit. Her pops sent out a blast e-mail about it a little while ago and I’m told the link’s posted on his Facebook page, so fire away. Not that she’ll need the money: The lawsuit’s weak, the jury will be on her side, and apparently Hannity’s set to beam this link out to America on tonight’s show, which means she’ll be swimming in dough come morning. Still, it’s a way to thank her for her work and to reward her for her courage, which is now being recognized by U.S. Senators. Free advice to the fund administrators, though: Add a $5 option so that people can make micro-donations. There’s big money in that. Ask the president.

I’ll post the info for O’Keefe’s defense fund once it’s available. (Why don’t they have a joint fund, incidentally?) Elsewhere in ACORN news, the Treasury Department’s IG is sniffing around their affiliates’ tax-exempt status even as the LA Times assures us that their employees are more committed than evah. Someone deserves an award for this masterpiece in the art of understatement:

“They haven’t hurt us like they think they did,” said Daniel Leary, a member who helps lead ACORN’s Foreclosure Fighters, a group that assists people facing eviction. “Our anger makes us more focused. Now we know the mission at hand.”

Critics charge that that adversarial mind-set, which helped make ACORN one of the most formidable community organizing groups in the country, may also prevent the group from conducting an honest reckoning with any flaws that the videotapes may have revealed.

“They have a very bunker mentality,” said Marcel Reid, a former national ACORN board member who left the organization because she had problems with its leadership. “They perceive everyone as a threat. You’re either with them or against them, and there’s no space in between.”

You don’t say. Just to add to the telethon vibe of this post, here’s entertainment from last night’s Factor with Barney Frank, who’s moved not so subtly from the “with them” to the “against them” column. Oh, and before I forget, the NEA just pulled the trapdoor on Yosi Sergant this afternoon, although that’s not so much an ACORN story as an “another casualty of Breitbart doing the media’s job for them” story.

Poor James. He’s learning the relative value that society places on a skinny 25-year-old nerd, no matter how accomplished, compared to a 20-year old pretty girl. I have a feeling that six months from now we’re going to remember this story as the Hanna Giles sting, and she’s going to be a regular guest on Fox News, while James will be relegated to making coffee in Andrew Breitbart’s office.

Question: did anyone else see the Headline from earlier today listing the bank foundations that have contributed to ACORN in the past? Some big dough.

My point: I wonder if some of these banks can find it in themselves to kick in a few bucks for these heroes.

The ones minons are still trying to find something. So far that is making the recording in a state that does not allow for recordings unless both parties know it, but there is the problem that ACORN employees gave their advice on tax evation and child prostitution protection in thier front office, which is a public accessable place and therefore as interpeted so far, not covered under the law. As we know, the law is just a nucience that gets in their way, so they will come up with something and a judge to support them. If you ever been the victim of malicious precution you will understand that your rights are only what the judge decides they are, until a higher court says otherwise.

Was watching Greta last night, and she was making a big deal out of just how stupid ACORN is. As she, and others here point out, the good guys will get discovery as well.

Unless ACORN literally burns down every office, including their “world headquarters” in Nawlins, that old funeral home, there is going to be a LOT of stuff they don’t really need out there.

Andrew, Hanna, and James are true American heroes. True patriots. By destroying ACORN, they may have literally saved the nation. The census, and the 2010 and 2012 elections may very well have had completely different outcomes than they will now!

gary4205 on September 24, 2009 at 7:37 PM

“They haven’t hurt us like they think they did,” said Daniel Leary, a member who helps lead ACORN’s Foreclosure Fighters, a group that assists people facing eviction. “Our anger makes us more focused. Now we know the mission at hand.”

Everybody should be aware that “foreclosure fighters” do no assist people facing eviction by finding loopholes in the law. They essentially occupy the property in an attempt to thwart eviction efforts. In ACORN’s world deadbeats shouldn’t have to pay what they promised and rightful owners don’t have the right to reclaim their property.
