Chavez on Obama at the UN: Can you smell the hope?

posted at 7:08 pm on September 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

We don’t call him the Evil Clown for nothing.

Chavez spent the first 20 minutes of his speech asserting that a revolution is under way in South America and promoting an Oliver Stone film that depicts his life as well as other South American leaders.

He then began taking political shots at his former rival.

Chavez joked that he hoped no one would throw a shoe at him, a reference to Bush ducking at a shoe hurled at him during a visit to Iraq last year, and laughed that he thought the Cuban official at his U.N. desk was preparing to remove his shoes.

Best part of this clip: Susan Rice shaking her head in disapproval, as if the hope/sulfur comparison wasn’t the entire subtext of Obama’s campaign and isn’t precisely the point of his repulsive treatment of Honduras for daring to boot the autocratic Chavista scumbag in their midst. Cowboy unilateralist George Bush would have antagonized Latin American tyrants by standing behind Micheletti, ergo Obama must stand against him. That’s Hopenchange for you, baby. Smell it.

Chavez needs to be stepped on before he can become a real threat, not only to his immediate neighbours but also to North America as well. Especially in light of his increasingly close relationship with Iran and its Theocratic dictatorship.

Given their close ties it does not take much to envision a time when we will see a Venezuela being armed by Iran with medium to long range ballistic missiles fitted with nuclear warheads. If that happens I wonder how the likes of Penn and Oliver Stone will reconcile the fact that they helped legitimise Chavez and helped enable him to become the biggest direct threat to the Continental United States since Cuban Missile crisis.

If you need a laugh, this is hysterical, from the NYPOST

Translator collapsed during Khadafy’s rambling diatribe:

After struggling to turn Khadafy’s insane ramblings at the UN into English for 75 minutes, the Libyan dictator’s personal interpreter got lost in translation.

“I just can’t take it any more,” Khadafy’s interpreter shouted into the live microphone – in Arabic.

At that point, the U.N.’s Arabic section chief, Rasha Ajalyaqeen, took over and translated the final 20 minutes of the speech.

“His interpreter just collapsed – this is the first time I have seen this in 25 years,” another U.N. Arabic interpreter told The Post.

George Bush would have antagonized Latin American tyrants by standing behind Micheletti, ergo Obama must stand against him.

That’s a stretch, AP. I think it’s much more plausible that Obama supports Zelaya based on ideological grounds than an anti-Bush reflex as you suggest. If you were right, Obama would do everything the opposite of Bush, but hasn’t.

There’s simply no reasonable way around the fact that Obama seems very comfortable with Tyranny; even promoting/supporting it as he has with Zelaya and Ahmadinejad.
