Will the US join Canada in A’jad walkout?; Update: Video of Harper’s clear, uncompromising language
posted at 10:12 am on September 23, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Our friends to the North have heard enough from Iranian “president” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, thanks to his Holocaust-denying rants and virulent anti-Semitism. Canada plans to protest his presence today at the United Nations, with their entire delegation walking out of the chamber when Ahmadinejad takes the podium. The big question will be whether other nations join Canada’s protest of this hate-spewing oppressor, including the US:
Canada will boycott Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech at the United Nations today, saying his outbursts about the Holocaust and Israel are “shameful.”
Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon will be at the world body to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly’s annual debate, but officials signal he and other members of the Canadian delegation will vacate when the Islamic republic’s president approaches the podium.
Walking out of the chamber is seen as a strong diplomatic show of disgust at the UN — and since the 192-member chamber is generally packed on the first day of the annual summit, Canada’s empty seats will not go unnoticed.
“President Ahmadinejad’s repeated denial of the Holocaust and his anti-Israel comments run counter to the values of the UN General Assembly, and they’re shameful,” said one Canadian official.
“He uses his public appearances to provoke the international community, and that is why Canada’s seats will be empty.”
Canada will be setting a standard today for the West. Who will sit and listen to Ahmadinejad’s speech and afford him that kind of credibility after his hateful and lunatic rants? One can certainly expect the usual suspects to sit in rapt attention: Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Russia, China, and so on. They have done nothing but enable the mullahs of Iran to conduct nuclear weapons programs, terrorism by proxy, and oppression.
But what about the Western democracies? Will the UK, France, and Germany sit and listen to Ahmadinejad? Iran is one of their trading partners, and thus far none of them have shown much inclination to take opportunities to rebuke Iran in public, except when being accused of fomenting unrest.
How about the US? We don’t have diplomatic relations with Iran, but Barack Obama certainly wants them. He did everything he could to avoid commenting on the rigged election in Iran that put Ahmadinejad on the dais at Turtle Bay. Obama wants talks so badly that the White House has shown no inclination to react to Ahmadinejad’s bigotry. When Canada walks out, it seems extremely unlikely that they will have their southern neighbors joining them — which will be a sorry day indeed for the United States.
Update: Stephen Harper does not mince words:
Impressive. Very impressive. We used to have national leaders here with this kind of clarity.

I research thinkgs before deciding on whether I believe them or not. Instead of bellieving the fabricated MSM quotes about Ahmadinejad, I research them, find out that they are fabricated, and form a different opinion about Ahmadinejad than you do, because my opinion is based on truth. You think AHmadinejad is evil, because you believe the dozens of fabricated quotes you are fed by the MSM about him. You have never done any research on the Holocaust. You have never read the deniers information. You simply beleive what you are told. If you are told often enough, like you have been with the Holocaust, you think it is crazy to question it. People also think it is crazy to question the idea that Ahmadinajed is evil, even when I show them that what they read about him is lies. I have read much material by the “deniers,” and they have some excellent hard evidence, although I have not made a decision either way. Too bad the information cannot even be debated. Just go on believing what you are told. It’s easy that way, and makes you feel much better about your in-group.

PM Harper is a fine man — he dwarfs his competition in polls in leadership capabilities.
Canada is no conservative bastion either — so it’s saying something.
Richard Romano on September 23, 2009 at 4:23 PM
At worst, dave, is “fake but accurate”.
Ahmedinejad is directly lying to you, and yet you buy that hook, line and sinker. Which one is more embarrassing?
For one, you’re still taking apart one quote out of the several I posted and proclaiming victory for a dictator.
For another, everything about the man screams Holocaust denier. Not only does he regularly deny it in in speeches (you’re welcome to piece apart every single quote I provided) and speak of destroying Israel, he also welcomes the association of other Holocaust deniers and even endorses and attends their conferences.
Do you also scientifically test ducks before concluding they are indeed ducks and not pigs?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,236014,00.html
For more context on calling it a “myth”:
Also at the end of the conference, Mohammad Ali Ramini, an Ahmadinejad adviser who has called the Holocaust a “myth,” announced that he will chair a committee to find “the truth on the genocide of Jews.”
“All the studies and research carried out so far have proven that there is no reason to believe that the Holocaust ever occurred and that it is only a tale,” he stated.

Esthier:
I have rebutted two of your quotes. At least your silence on my most recent post shows you acknowledge that lie. Forgive me for not having the time for the others. I have done some others elsewhere. For example, on this site:
jihadwatch.org/2008/10/pakistani-mufti-insists-that-islam-is-a-religion-of-peace-and-brotherhood-and-linking-terrorism-with.html
(starting with the statement “Here is the story of another fabricated quote”), I show how the MSM quotes terrorist organizations in order to demonize Ahmadinejad, and that these quotes that originate from terrorist organizations are quoted in the text of bills in the US. Do you think the US Congress should be quoting terrorist organizations??
Here is another example:
aim.org/guest-column/its-a-mad-mad-mad-mad-world-starring-irans-ahmadinejad/
Tracking down the trail of lies takes some time. I will get to all of your quotes eventually, but probably not on this thread.
I see now you have been reduced to quoting people other than Ahmadinejad. That seems weird.
Here is what Mohtashamipour said:
“Results of surveys and research work at hand today around the globe prove the fact to the world nations that much of what has been said in the West about the Holocaust is nothing but a big myth.”

Cleric says Holocaust no more than a myth
Once again, different than your FOXNews quote. “Much of what has been said” means that the story has been exxagerated. Saying the Holocaust story is exagerated is different than saying it is a lie. Mohtashamipour also said:
What is your point with Mohtashamipour anyway? Because a former interior minister said the Holocaust is exxagerated, I should hate Ahmadinejad and want to bomb Iran because of it? I don’t get it.

ronsfi on September 23, 2009 at 5:01 PM
No more than your silence on my posts showed you acknowledged anything.
Because obviously it’s your intention to spin every quote of his, even knowing that he has attended Holocaust conferences. You work so diligently to prove he isn’t who the MSM paints him out to be, but you do so while ignoring his own actions. But hey, that’s your agenda.
Reduced to? You haven’t even addressed all the quotes I’ve given you yet.
I’m not at all done.
For someone who assumes nothing of a dictator and tries to excuse his every inexcusable utterance, you sure have no problem making up motivations for the people you counter here.
Of course this exposes you. If you were really interested in the Truth and not distortions, you wouldn’t participate in them yourself.
I never said you should want to bomb Iran or that I want to bomb Iran. I never even said his words are the reason you should feel anything negative towards him. I even expressly stated that his words are not the reason he’s evil.
If you’ve messed up so badly on me, it’s no wonder you have no idea who the dictator is.

dave742 slandered a prominent Israeli as a holocaust denier withouth bothering to read the link he put up. When Uncle actually showed us the clearly understood words of that Israeli, the stupid little troll then denied the author said what he clearly said. Here is how it went down.
The Isreali author was discussing the idea that the holocaust led directly to the establishment of the jewish state. He insisted that the holocaust and the establishment of Israel were, in fact, distinct historical events from each other and that there was no causal relationship between said events. In this, he denied that causal relationship, not the events themselves. This is what happened.
The troll, knowing he had been caught failing to do even the barest research on his own claims, then continued to lie and continued to slander the Israeli author as a holocaust denier. This is the essence of holocaust denial, facts mean nothing. This is also why they tend to be screaming leftists, as both groups prefer to murder, en masse, those who would dare to disagree with them.
Got a problem with my characterization of you, troll? Do something about it.

I spent July 4, 1979, visiting the concentration camp remains and memorial at Dachau.
Credit where credit is due: The museum at Dachau does a superb job of documenting experiments conducted by Nazi doctors on the prisoners there. Among other artifacts, I recall that I saw a series of photographs showing the effects of atmospheric compression and decompression on one victim who was placed in an airtight room in which the air pressure was raised and lowered over a range of several atmospheres of pressure. I will never forget the changes of expression on that man’s face — from stoic calm to agony to unconsciousness and death.
The Holocaust happened.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s secret MySpace entry:
Hi there fellow Islamic bloggers and Islam bloogers to be. My name is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and I am the great and fearless President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and soon to be the defacto President of Iraq too! Soon I will add another feather to my cap by humbling the new American President as he comes on bended knee to apologize for all of America’s sins agains Islam and it’s new great leader – me!
I was was born one of seven children to a humble blacksmith and when I was a child growing up I worked on a farm to earn extra money for my poor father and I got to know a lot of the farm animals very well. I was real nature boy back then. I was a real animal lover. My favorites were the goats of course. I still have such fond memories of my boyhood.
Later I excelled as a student, earning my master’s degree and a Ph.D in civil engineering. I have only three wifes, but as the leader of such a great Islamic country and soon to be the dominate power in the Middle East I feel that it is time for me to take my fourth wife. If any nice Islamic ladies are reading this you should email me some time soon. You must be between the ages of 12 and 28 years old. If you are under 12 that would be alright too but you must have a note from a male relative of course.
In addition to my important duties as the Great President of the Islamic Republic of Iran I am now working on my post graduate science project, which when completed in a very few years, I will test on Evil Israel and the Great Satin America.
Who I would like to meet … …
In addition to my fourth wife, and remember if you are under 12 years old, you must have a note from a male relative, I would like to meet other dedicated members of the Great Religion of Slaughter Peace, Islam of course. We can all get together after work and spend time reading inspiring passages from the Koran and comparing notes on our mutual love of farm animals. We can also go over a list of priority test sites for my developing science project. It will be a blast! It will make much bigger holes than the one in New York that I am going to visit only for comparison purposes!

Hey Dave742, I probably will never get an answer to this question but I will try anyway. You know that some Christian folks think that Israel was predicted to be established again according to the bible. If this is true are you going to call the bible a liar? They say Israel may lose ground and lose some battles but no one will ever defeat her and this probably will really anger you knowing that we will always have Israel around. No one yet has brought up this angle and I wonder who you will deal with it? I imagine you will scoff and and deny the bible prophecies and you are free to do so.

Gotta love the Canadians. They are a great lot of people.
Just goes to show that in this crazy, messed-up world you have to be grateful for the friends/allies you got.
I take back all the Canadian jokes I’ve ever made. :-)

And proud you should be.

Dave742, if you are still around, may I suggest that you google “Eschatology of the Mahdi”, Ayatollah Khomeni and Dinner Jacket. Then get back with us with deniers and the threat of Islamic Radicals (especially from the crazies from Iraq and Syria).
And to me, Ron Paul ranks right up there with John Birch and the LaRouche crowd.

Canada never looked so tall.
Oh Canada!

I’m a Canadian and I hate Harper and his policies, and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about most of Canada (only cares about the Western provinces). But I’d rather have him than the Liberals. Still, don’t be fooled by his rhetoric. He doesn’t care about the Holocaust or Israel or any of that. An election is coming up and he’s losing support fast. He needs something to put him back in the spotlight.

Yep.
After early summer meetings over revamping employment insurance, nothing happened for months and then when the threat of the government failing, he suddenly pulls out this Xmas gift of an EI revamping. That fooled nobody.
Now this.
I agree in isolating Iran and having a hardline stance against them, but don’t think for a second that this is a 100% noble gesture. It’s a very political one with more hope for it to play well with Canadian voters than to make Canada look tough on the international stage. At this point, he’s still a better alternative than the Liberals, so don’t come at me with stupid liberal sh*t.

You are correct. I am an atheist, but I respect the right for everyone to believe whatever they want, as long as those beliefs do not infringe on others. I do not think the world should be run according to one particular religion. What if I tell you that I have my own religion, with its own holy book (full of myths!). What if one of those myths says that my holy land is the town that you live in, and you and your neighbors need to move out in two weeks so me and my followers can move in, by force if necessary. Would you resist? If so, we would call you a terrorist. We would also fabricate quotes and attribute them to you, so the rest of the world will hate you. That way the rest of the world wouldn’t have to feel guilty when me and my religious buddies bomb you.

Ahhh, so only your little book of fun’s prophecies are the ones everybody is supposed to listen to. How incredibly arrogant of you.

Funny, huh. But remember, it’s the Muslims that are the extremists.

Obama’s Islam’s wet noodle.

I read this morning that both Gaddafi and Castro are praising Obama . . . that should tell you a lot about the state of this poor sick Republic.

The Canadians did what Americans have to do. They let the liberals almost destroy their country and their way of life like they are attempting to do here. Harper, being a conservative, brought them back from the brink. The problem this country has is that we don’t seem to have leaders with the moral compass of a Harper. Obama is a counterfeit tool of the anti-American fanatical left. Nothing more, nothing less. He is exactly the result of the propaganda machine called the mainstream media and they, as he, are owned and operated by a movement to bring our country to its knees.
volsense on September 24, 2009 at 11:45 AM
MrX when you began your diatribe by saying you hate Harper, you inadvertently removed any guise of relevance. The word hate that comes so easily to liberals is the first sign of bigotry that is a common bond to them. Look up the definition of bigot in the dictionary. “One who is intolerant of others beliefs.” Liberalism and bigotry are synonymous.
