Video: The book on Democratic civility

posted at 12:56 pm on September 22, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

A cute “greatest hits” collection from the NRCC, which has so much material from this summer that it could keep the webads rolling for months. When Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer talk about the “un-American” protests at town-hall meetings, people can use this as a rebuttal. The Masterpiece Theater theme helps set the contrast between Democratic demands for civility and … Pete Stark’s interesting concept of “blessed urine,” for lack of a better term. Enjoy the stroll down Memory Lane.

what is happening to the NRCC? This isn’t the usual crappy ad, its actually decent

Doctor Zhivago on September 22, 2009 at 1:00 PM

Sure…no snappy, intelligent comeback, walk away like a coward, diminish the will of the people, bring up bodily fluids, or call people names. School yard rules. Gotta love the Dems.

Driefromseattle on September 22, 2009 at 1:02 PM

Well played, NRCC, well played.

But y’all still aren’t getting a dime out of me until you can satisfy me that you can really do better. I had such high hopes after 1994, I really did.

Misses at least a couple of the “better” ones: “He (W) betrayed us” (screamed by fat Albert) “General Betrayus” (Move on, of which the Democrat Party is a wholly-owned subsidiary).

But well formulated–a good start.

Can’t see it at work, but if Judge Bork isn’t Chapter 1, it needs a reorg!

Khun Joe on September 22, 2009 at 1:11 PM

It was great until the “Support the NRCC” ending. This is still about taking down this administration’s policies and making sure the “other side” doesn’t just play the same old songs. Haven’t seen enough from the NRCC to send them a check yet.

Support the NRCC? Why? Just because Democrats are MORE loathsome?

Yet again, the GOP continues to spout reasons to vote against the other guy instead of for them. Fail.

Red Cloud on September 22, 2009 at 1:16 PM

The beauty of the Dumbs is that I really believe that they don’t see the last seven months as anything but good. The NRCC can, literally, just keep the Tivo on and the Dumbs are making all of their ads for them. Now all we need is to have the NRCC find candidates that aren’t RINO’s. Conservatives that talk the talk but, more importantly, walk the walk. Clear, concise and plain spoken people that can connect with real Americans… unfortunately, good luck with that.

Nice idea but too cute, too tame.

rrpjr on September 22, 2009 at 1:17 PM

Eric Massa
Ann Kirkpatrivk
Baron Hill
John Murtha
Ciro Rodriguez
Pete Stark

Remember to vote in 2010 and 2012…..You now see that the above listed are working hard for you!

BigMike252 on September 22, 2009 at 1:18 PM

If only the democrats could raise themselves to the same level of anger against terrorists and other sworn enemies of our country.

fogw on September 22, 2009 at 1:18 PM

“You’re not going to tell me how to run my Congressional office.” Congressman Baron Hill (D-IN).

Isn’t “Democratic Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior” an oxymoron? This is actually the first time that I’ve seen that Baron Hill is a democrat. In the dozen or so articles I’ve read on this incident his party affiliation was always omitted. I’m just glad he’s not my congressman, unfortunately mine Pete Visclosky although when anyone asks me, I tell them it’s Mike Pence.

Go to the school library, I’m sure they allow porn to be downloaded there and if not, notify the ACLU so they can get right on it.

It’s what the founding fathers intended.

NoDonkey on September 22, 2009 at 1:23 PM

Actually not a bad add, I will not support the NRCC because of the crap-n-tax votes and the 7 votes to censure Joe Wilson. My donations will go to candidates and organizations that are truly conservative.

It’s a good start, but they forgot about:
* Congresswoman whatshername taking a phone call in the middle of the cancer survivor’s story.
* Carol Shea-Porter having the retired cop arrested
* Paul “Hey, I’m gonna be a senator so I’m not going to do my current job for the next two years” Hodes completely avoiding his constituants.

Jaibones on September 22, 2009 at 1:32 PM

I imagine Democrat’s idea of civility is pretty similar to that of French monarchs had.

Democrat politicians should be treated like living gods on earth and we should be grateful to have them.

We toil everyday to pay our taxes, while they use them to feather their nests and to distribute to whom they please.

Democrats need to study up on what happened to the French monarchs.

NoDonkey on September 22, 2009 at 1:32 PM

meh… not terribly impressive or persuasive.

I try to look at this stuff from a “moderate’s” (oh that word!) position. Juxtaposed against how the media has framed Wilson’s “You lie” and juxtapose against the quality of that audio (the video featuring King Barack)… I’m not sure how much of an impact piece this is.

Sure, it’s better than no response and it does soften the charge a bit… but Wilson’s very public (read: national) explosion (which, honestly, I don’t think hurts as much as the Dems want it to hurt) just seems worse than a few no-names in some bad video grumbling with crowds at town halls.

In the end, I don’t think the “civility” issue is a game-changer either way. I hope they didn’t spend a lot on this production (or for its distribution). The GOP always ends up playing in the other party’s yard, letting them set the table for discussion.

mankai on September 22, 2009 at 1:33 PM

The GOP needs to start pivoting and explaining and selling what they WOULD do. The approval level of Congress is already at a sub level, they don’t need to be pounding the dead horse even more.

Pivot, and start explaining how you would improve things. That is when you will start building real support.

Having said that, that last line about wasting urine was pretty funny…I need to remember that one.

crazy_legs on September 22, 2009 at 1:30 PM

And how about the security cop that said something like “this aint America any more.”

farright on September 22, 2009 at 1:37 PM

Hey NRCC, did you notice what happened to Joe Wilson(R)? How much money did he raise? Stop making it about you. Start profiling the conservative candidates. They will get the money. Have you even thought about ASKING Joe Wilson(R) to help another conservative just to see what happens?

Is this thing on? Can you hear me?

FREEDOM!

Blacksmith8 on September 22, 2009 at 1:40 PM

I wish the footage was full screen. It’s too ineffective seeing it so minimized. You want to really see the Democrats’ faces and the contempt they have for voters.

alliebobbitt on September 22, 2009 at 1:55 PM

The caption makes me of think of “Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy” on SNL. Here’s a deep thought: Liberal Dems are douchebags!

NathanG on September 22, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Blocked here too.

Maybe we can talk Ed or AP into linking to a eyeblast version, or something else other than youtube. Which is blocked. At most people’s work. So we can’t see any vids. Because their blocked. From work.

rightside on September 22, 2009 at 1:57 PM

Those don’t seem like criticisms of a lack of civility. One can be perfectly civil while dismissing constituent criticism when the constituent obviously didn’t vote for them and thus already expressed their dissaproval of the agenda. These seem more like complaints that Democrats are inconsiderate or snobbish…not that they aren’t civil.

Jeff from WI on September 22, 2009 at 2:17 PM

Good idea but it didn’t go far enough… also, execution is poor… they could do better even limited by crapcam video/audio.

I imagine Democrat’s idea of civility is pretty similar to that of French monarchs had.

Democrat politicians should be treated like living gods on earth and we should be grateful to have them.

That’s what the look on Pelosi’s face during the “you lie” incident told me.

itsacookbook on September 22, 2009 at 2:18 PM

The first one’s audio is so garbled I can’t understand it. Other than that, it was okay.

AnotherOpinion on September 22, 2009 at 2:22 PM

This is an RBI-single that could be a grand slam HR over the Green Monster in the bottom of the 12th inning of Game 7 if there are more vids to come. Certainly theres no lack of material.

As is, its a nice little nose-tweak and not much else.

More please.

Since Conservatives Has Dicovered Protest..The Media Have Nostalgia For….President Richard M. Nixon???

“Richard Nixon, in his first inaugural address during a time of widespread public rage in the United States, talked about “reaching with magnificent precision for the moon, but falling into raucous discord on earth.”

Nixon’s presidency would end in shambles. But on its first day, here is what he said about how to soothe the anger that was consuming the nation:

“To find that answer, we need only look within ourselves. … To lower our voices would be a simple thing.”

Some people’s feelings about Nixon undoubtedly cloud their opinion of everything he ever did. Yet what he said as he took office in a time of nonstop partisan conflict is worth considering as we pass through similar days:

“In these difficult years, America has suffered from a fever of words; from inflated rhetoric that promises more than it can deliver; from angry rhetoric that fans discontents into hatreds; from bombastic rhetoric that postures instead of persuading.

“We cannot learn from one another until we stop shouting at one another — until we speak quietly enough so that our words can be heard as well as our voices.”

The problem with the NRCC, and all the other Republican fundraisers, is that they’ve WASTED eight months during which they could have, but did not, build a comprehensive set of policies to offer the public as alternatives to the destructive Obama appointments and legislation.

Their only message is the reactionary “we’re not Democrats, send your money here”.

I’ve always been skeptical about the intelligence of the Republican party, but this particular failure to cash in on a sure thing is beyond belief. The 2010 election is theirs to lose, and they’re doing a great job losing.

Insufficiently Sensitive on September 22, 2009 at 3:03 PM

profitsbeard on September 22, 2009 at 11:45 PM

I want to close the book on all the statists, D and R. I received a “survey” yesterday from the NRCC with the usual request for cash. I sent it back with a note to stop supporting RINO’s and maybe we will donate. I doubt that they will get the message but a man’s got to try.

SKYFOX on September 23, 2009 at 7:53 AM

Cute buy weak. The NRCC needs some young fine arts majors to school them a bit on how to do snark.

Mojave Mark on September 23, 2009 at 9:15 AM

The NRCC and the DNCC are not policy producing organizations. They are political campaign fund collection agencies. Both use “red meat” methods to gin up outrage among their constituents.

Unfortunately for them, the paradigm of American politics is shifting. The party insiders of both the Reps and the Dems don’t understand the the internet is doing to them what it is doing to the deadtree/vacuum tube media; it is removing their monopoly on the communications process.

Instead of being an adjunct to the traditional party system, the internet allows activists on all sides to organize and get their message out. The 9/12 protest domonstrated this quite clearly.
